Time to use my Christmas money since I have a feeling that my PSU isn't doing too well. So time to get that out of the way in my road of upgrading my computer. Maybe by next Christmas I can pull off a CPU-Mobo-RAM upgrade. At that point, my tower will be mostly complete save for a new case.

Nexus-6-vs-Nexus-6P-AH-10.jpg

My 1Plus One was starting to get a little old in the tooth, and my contract with o2 was coming to an end so I thought I'd go for something more premium this time.

Had the device a day, and whilst I've not really had a chance to use it in the wild (waiting on the number transfer), I can safely say that it's got that premium feel I'd not had since I got a HTC ONE X a few years ago.

I keep forgetting we have this thread. Most recent non-gaming purchases:

Both are often recommended as must-read for programmers, so I've been meaning to grab them for a while. This being my last semester, I figured it was probably a good time to get around to it. But man, prog books are expensive. :(

I bought some Nike trainers in a sale a few years ago when I started playing sports regularly again and they were great (I have wide feet) so I was trying to find the same style. This is Revolution 2, but not quite the same. Looks good though.

Maybe I should've bought two.

Also, this was £5 while I was buying work stuff and I'd heard good things and Y: The Last Man was excellent.

GENTLEMEN...BEHOLD!!!  I HAVE REJOINED THE MASTER RACE!!!

My current laptop is definitely on its way out (a bunch of the keys don't even work anymore) and it was mid-tier when I bought it in the first place, meaning that while it handled last-gen games okay for the most part, it got left in the dust near the end of that gen and the beginning of this one.  That was the first time I bought a PC with my own money, so I'm taking what I learned from that experience and making sure to future-proof this time around.  Here are the listed specs:

  • 15.6" Full HD (1920x1080) IPS Display with G-Sync Technology, Matte Finished
  • Intel Skylake Core i7-6700HQ (2.6-3.5 GHz)
  • NVIDIA® GeForceTM GTX 980M (8.0GB) GDDR5 PCI-Express (Maxwell) w/ OptimusTM Technology
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 2133MHz [2x8GB] / m.2 Slot 1: 250GB SSD / HDD Bay: 1TB 7200RPM [sATA II - 3GB/s] / Built-in 802.11 Wireless B/G/N - Stock Wireless Card + BluetoothTM 4.0
  • Windows 10 Home 64-Bit Edition Preinstalled (without Recovery Media) / 1 Year manufacturers warranty / IC Diamond Thermal Compound / 30 days No Dead Pixel .

I've got so many games to catch up on!

Certainly better than mine.

:bun-cry:

Right now I'm just waiting for the next-gen Nvidia GPUs to drop, which will hopefully cause the prices of the 900 series to drop and let me snag a 980 Ti for a reasonable price.

I guess it would depend on the game.  I haven't really tried to use Big Picture Mode before since most of my PC games in the last few years were indie games.  I might try it, but my tv is set up in such a way that it's not so easy to get to the cables so it might end up being too much hassle for me.

I just got a new laptop as well (it's not a gaming one), since I really needed to stop putting personal crap on my work laptop. And maaaaybe because I really couldn't stand the screen of that thing (1366x768 matte display??).

It's a Lenovo Edge 15. It's has an i3 processor (what?), Intel HD 5500, 8GB ram. 512 HDD, but I have a 512 SSD that I can put on it when I get the time (and some screwdrivers). I'm feeling the i3 "speed", but I guess when I put an SDD on it it'll get a bit snappier. In any case, I don't mind. But of course, I'm gonna try low-end gaming Fallout 4 on it and see how far I can go. The processor would probably be my main concern, since I was able to get FO4 to run on a Intel 4000 with a few tweaks.

It has a touch screen too, but I just don't feel like smudging my finger prints all over that pretty display. Oh, and it can do this:

Can your laptop do that huh Mister Jack? Can it? No, sir, it cannot!

Although I did find a use for it, since I'm actually using an external keyboard and mouse, the stand mode puts my display closer to me, which is nice.

Cracked my molar start of the year, so £200 later (I guess £300 if you count in prior works with fillings too) I now have one of these:

Full_ceramic_crown.jpg

Feels a bit weird, since my filling left it sorta concave n a bit sharp. Now it's all smooth n rounded. Rather happy with it.

(It's a porcelain crown)
