deanb
Picked up an MC Escher 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle to help pass some of my time off, been assembling it while watching Clone Wars in the background. I had wanted a wasgij, but seems they're a rare find in charity shops. For £1.50 can't really go wrong. Also this week went shopping with my mum and there was a shop selling a chunk of American foods on one of the aisles. Picked up some twinkies (my mum recognised them from the movies, but I had to show her the Ghostbusters scene), Twizzlers, Reece's Pieces and Reece's Cups (they had more, but only other thing of interest was Fluff which we've had before). The Reece's stuff was the only nice stuff, weird as it's made by Hersheys (which initially put my mum off, but the peanut smell was strong) and oh god the Twinkies exterior really belies their taste and texture. I guess we expected like a kind of spongey éclair.
TheFlyingGerbil
Generally imported sweets are absolutely ridiculously priced and knowing nine times out of ten they'll be disappointing it's not easy to convince myself to try most of them but I really want to try a Twinkie just because they're so famous, but fully expect them to be a massive disappointment. The only one I've particularly liked is butterfingers which is annoying as there is nothing even vaguely similar in the uk to my knowledge. TheMightyEthan
Twinkies are not good.

CorgiShinobi
I got a cash bonus at work and budged on getting it. I figured if I was going to get a new controller for PC gaming I'd go wireless. As of now the "Cable for Windows" version is the same as my 9 ft. USB cable and the standard wireless controller isn't on sale.
TheFlyingGerbil
Didn't really know where to put this or if it will be of interest to anyone, but the official BBC online shop is closing down at the end of the month, until then there are substantial reductions on a lot of its goods. Some cool stuff on there. Oh and it's free delivery in the uk so if it looks like a bargain, it will still be a bargain when you check out.bbcshop.com Edited March 14, 2016 by TheFlyingGerbil
Mal
More putting money where my mouth is and support the artists I like. There's EvocationHK (Cantonese death metal), Dowman Seiman (manga artist) and Utsu-P (Japanese Vocaloid metal).
Eleven
Pretty cool tablet for $50 (Kindle Fire 7"). Since I decided to not get a bigger phone (in both screen size and capacity! iPhone 5s 16gb ftw!), I wanted to get a tablet so I could read stuff while at home and so I don't have to read in front of a computer. I initially was looking at the iPad Mini 4, because Apple and ecosystem and all that, but could not justify the price for what I would use it for. This tablet is pretty good, so far. Yeah it takes a few seconds to load apps, but that's ok. My only real complaint is that sometimes there isn't an indicator that things are loading, so I feel like I'm waiting around for nothing (and sometimes I was waiting around for nothing, not used to the Android/Fire interface still). But it's pretty good. I even tried watching Hulu on it and it's pretty good. Edited April 14, 2016 by Eleven
Eleven
What did I NOT buy? There's also 3 more huge boxes in another corner... I need help getting rid of these boxes... Edited April 30, 2016 by Eleven
toxicitizen
Welp, I'm still waiting on a few grades but, unless I somehow horribly screwed up on a final without realizing it, I'm done with both my semester and my bachelor's degree. That means it'll very soon be job hunting time and this book comes highly recommended for programming interview prep. What did I NOT buy? There's also 3 more huge boxes in another corner... I need help getting rid of these boxes... Lol, that looks exactly like the corner of my room. I even still have the box for the computer case for the PC I built last year. I really need to get around to throwing all that stuff out...
deanb
I've picked up some cheap rigger gloves n heavy duty bin bags to give a clear out of the front n back yard (back yard has a chunk of boiler parts kicking around left my the maintenance people which'd be nice to go now they're getting dry, front has a bunch of piled up leaves, weeds, dead plants n general wind blown rubbish build up). And for myself I popped into the new Works* that's opened in town (Man, The Works pretty much was my college shop in the day, was bummed there wasn't one in town when I moved here), and picked up an easel, a starter set of acrylics, mixed brush set n a bunch of pre-stretched canvases for the pretty solid price of £27 all together, less than my EMA** back in the day. Also got a stack of comics while I was in town too, but they're free so not sure they count as a "purchase". *For the non-brits (and maybe some of the brits, I don't know if it's a fully national chain) The Works are sort of a discount/ex-catalogue book shop mainly with like last years autobiogrpahies n mish-mash of other stuff such as a GTAV Brady guide alongside a stack of books on body art. But for me they also have a pretty good super cheap art n crafts section. Another shop down the street which is also a lot of cheap home stuff sells easels for £20 alone n the really nice art shop even further round the corner would do £20 for like a tube of paint) **Education Maintenance Allowance. Was (I think it has been scrapped in recent years) a weekly bit of cash you'd get when attending college in £10, £20, n £30 amounts depending on parents financial situation. Used for things like getting lunch, the bus into college, and buying supplies n books n such. The Works helped stretch that a long way. edit: Now with picture. Mal
A concert ticket to see the Blind Guardian with Grave Digger in October. I'm not really into Grave Digger but Blind Guardian is one of my favorites. I am totally ready to sing The Bard's Song.
TheFlyingGerbil
What sort of thing do you paint, Dean? I don't remember ever seeing anything in the what are you drawing thread.
deanb
Not posted anything cos I've not painted for years. My paintings were mainly done at college so largely academical; my favourite being local hill Roseberry Topping in the style of Van Gogh and you learn a lot from that, 2D pictures don't really do him justice. His stuff is like 3-4 layers deep. Outside of that done a few smaller bits n bobs my mum has a painting I did of James Dean hanging up in her lounge for her birthday many years ago. I guess when I'm back at hers I could take a picture n post it. The rest is in the attic unfortunately.

deanb
I know there's Fifth Element ones around but yet to see any in my local geek stores. I'm not a huge fan of them myself, overall seem quite tacky but I guess they're cheaper than higher quality models/figures (like the £100 Gypsy Danger one store has/had)
Mister Jack
I loved this movie so I went out of my way to get the Target version with extra bonus stuff.

Strangelove
Did you pay through PayPal? Surely you can do some kind of charge back type thing. I did, but I used the gift option to avoid fees. Only way you get your money is if they give it back to you voluntarily.

Eleven
Need more space! Was supposed to arrive on Wednesday, but apparently they lost the shipment. Called Amazon earlier today and they shipped me one using same-day shipping. Got it around 4 PM. Cool! I've backed up my PS4, now replacing the drive and restoring. 2 more hours to go! That backup-restore process is as slow as ever.
