TheFlyingGerbil
I went a bit mad last night and bought 6 pairs of glasses and prescription sunglasses. My only excuse is it's the first time I've bought glasses online so all 6 were cheaper than I'd normally spend on one pair and probably at least one or two won't suit me so I've hedged my bets. Still, should probably have a bit more sense.
deanb
I've debated shopping online for glasses. On one hand I kind of like to try them on before hand, but on the other I always feel I'm wearing glasses that don't suit me so it's a bit of a pointless exercise I guess. TheFlyingGerbil
I've been looking in opticians for nearly a year for a pair I like, but I always talk my way out of them, which is why I resorted to online, once it's done, it's done and if they're not perfect at least the decision is made. deanb
So I've occasionally over the past few months being fawning over DSLRs in PC World and such, but always holding off. Then today my boss goes and hands me one we've borrowed to go shoot pics for a client. And yeah
deanb
me: "I have a job, I should probably not save" In this case my phone has been on the fritz for a while with weird charging issues, and atm doesn't actually even work as a phone (which isn't a huge loss since it's not like anyone uses phones as phones anymore but does mean it's a bit akward for real-time communication when out the office). And since I quite liked the flexibility of buying sim-free I have done that again and grabbed a... OnePlus 5. Should arrive next week. And next month I'll be upgrading a bunch of my wardrobe that's gotten a bit tatty over my unemployment (i.e a new coat and shoes mainly that'll look a tad more professional). And I think in November, since I've just been to a chamber of commerce event and felt quite undressed, I'll get a suit. Though mainly wanting to be slimmer by that point. 1

deanb
It's the HMV "big sale" so I've got: The Martian Jurassic Park Star Trek: Beyond Cloud Atlas and Kubo & the Two Strings all on Blu-Ray. Been banging on about The Martian with housemate, and figured Blu-Ray would be best way to watch it. That's the main reason I popped into HMV but I'm a sucker for deals. I also made a mental note they've finally got in a "Complete Series" box set of FMA:B, rather than the usual two boxset thing I see around. So that's something to find on Amazon n put on my wishlist. I also got some new shoes last week, they're like a steel grey suede material. I'm liking them in that they're kind of smart-casual, so I can easily wear them to like business lunches n such. My only major gripe is how hard they are at the moment, my old leather boots were nice and softly worn in. I'm also worried a bit as we approach winter they might not stand up to that as well. My next thing to hunt for in that regard is a new wallet and probably a new coat. Oh yeah, I got a suit jacket from a charity shop. It's Next so probably many times more new than what I paid for it. I love it, was kinda self-conscious on being so "dressed down" at events even thought it was played down as being digital sector. It has great internal pockets, that hide so much without bulging out on the front, and just looks pretty snazzy.

I'd be interested to know - my own espresso pulling ability is too hit and miss to tell if the grinder is pulling its weight. Is your ground coffee consistent through a single and multiple grinds? Consistency is the main reason why I bought this pricey grinder. I'll let you know how consistent it is in due time. My current hand cranked grinder can produce coarse and fine coffee in the same session due to inconsistencies in handling. For example, you can pull up on the grinder handle which closes the opening, producing fine grounds. Another problem is that it is very hard to fine tune it, especially if there are multiple users. I do pour overs* and my brother does cold brews. Cold brew requires very coarse grinds which is easy to adjust to. Adjusting it back to where I want it is a pain. *Might get into espressos now that I can pull off fine enough grounds. Might do that after getting a coffee roaster and researching it out. I can cowboy roasting with a wok but my prefer popcorn popper broke. So I am mulling it over on what direction I should take. A more sturdy popcorn popper, air popper or an actual roaster. Such a wide range of prices... same deal with espresso machines.

TheFlyingGerbil
I have a decent grinder, a Eureka Mignon: It's the espresso machine I have difficulty taming, being completely manual: I rarely pull something that'ts completely unpalatable and honestly though, while I can taste differences each time I couldn't say if I prefer one attempt over another and wouldn't be able to replicate it if I did. Luckily I enjoy the overall experience of making and drinking it as much as anything.

TCP
@TheFlyingGerbil My wife and I had a Hyundai Accent that she drove to work and we used exclusively on the evenings/weekends. While it was cheap on gas it was pretty unreliable in the snow, the vehicle was so low the ground if it snowed more than a few inches over night the Accent became useless. So we upgraded to a Hyundai Tucson, which is all wheel drive and a fair amount bigger without being overwhelming for the wife. We narrowed it down to a Honda CRV or Hyundai Tucson but the CRV had a lot of bells and whistles we didn't need, it seemed more like a family vehicle when there's just two of us and the dogs and the Hyundai was more affordable. Which is good because at some point in the next few years I'll want to get rid of my old Jeep and get some sort of a pickup truck. Vecha
I got a Nintendo Switch. Zelda. micro sd card. screen protector and case that wraps around the switch that also adds comfy sports for my hands. A cord that extends from the dock to my Nintendo Switch so I don't have to worry about fucking my switch up with my clumsy hands. Pre-ordered Xenoblade 2 and the special controller. Along with Mario Odyssey. A RavPower 26800mAh battery pack with wallcharger/USB C cable for the switch. And also pre-ordered ELEX for the ps4 just because I believe in supporting B(ok maybe C) level western RPG devs. It may be clunky and janky as fuck, but sometimes I love to be anally (consensually) raped by janky controls, but well thought out REAL RPG™ mechanics. Basically a Birthday Splurge/congratulating myself for work going well splurge.
TheMightyEthan
It doesn't look like I posted it in here, but about a month ago I bought a Poweradd 20,000 mAh power bank, and I love it. It charges my phone faster than a wall charger does, and I can pull about at least 5 full charges out of it. I haven't tried really charging my Switch off it, but I did test it briefly and it was even able to charge it while I was playing. 1
