@TheFlyingGerbil You did well! That's almost the same turntable as mine, except yours has the acrylic platter, which I will upgrade mine to have at some point this year. You might want to invest in a clamp, I've heard those are beneficial for acrylic platters, but obviously can not confirm now. I've just upgraded from an Audio Technica LP-120 and I could definitely hear the difference immediately.

I haven't tried that preamp before but it's easy enough to swap one out later. The thing to think of is, you're running your $600ish turntable through a $25 preamp, which probably isn't doing your sound any favours. I picked up this one, also made by Pro-Ject and I really like it. Be wary of anything with USB, it's usually an expensive add on that you won't use (for instance there's a USB version of my preamp for $100 more... no thanks!!).

That's one I was looking at, but this appealed to me being hand made in Britain, but it's not got reviews yet as it's new so I'll probably pick that up when it starts getting into peoples hands - assuming they're good. I just wanted something cheap and cheerful so get me up and running to give me time to make a full decision and the pro ject one is a consideration for long term use too dear for a stop gap. In fact it's probably what I'll get if the Tisbury one doesn't pan out.

My old mic was dead and so I bought a Blue Snowball to find that it is pretty damn massive so I got a cheap swing arm for it. I would like to think anybody who plays with me can hear me now. And I guess I can VA (I can't).

I also got 3 storage compartments for the unused drive bays. I got too many small things hanging around that might have a home inside my computer (e.g., wires and cables).

So the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition set I got last month had broken blu-ray cases. It wasn't due to the shipping as both the box and the movie boxset was in good condition. I think over time, since this set is from 2011, whatever made up the cases either for the black color or capacity, made the plastic very brittle.

So I found the perfect replacements on eBay with exception of the cases being the default blue. Just got them in the mail today and they're practically the same 5 disc case design.

Got myself a wee treat since local HMV finally got more copies in that weren't already opened banged up cases

And not so much a treat as a necessity got myself a new electric razor/shaver thing. Multi-headed. Can't find a picture (I guess I could look up model number, but...it's an electric razor I'm sure most of you have seen them before).

Song of Sylvan by Zao Dao, a Chinese artist. This is an artbook that tells a story without any words. I found out about this artist about three hours ago and I made this impulse and not cheap purchase because I am so taken away by the art. From what I gather it's all physical media, primarily paint brush.

She also has two comics that comes in as a set call The Ink of the Wild but I cannot find it from a primary store. :bun-cry:

I got curious about reading some of Ito's work after watching the recent anime and I found these nice collected editions, so what the hell. Gonna feel kinda weird reading a manga with a hardcover, though. There's also one for Tomie but it was more expensive and I don't know anything about that one so maybe I'll get it later, depending on how much I enjoy these.

Previous purchase has been delayed due to the last copy of the book the seller had was damaged on the spine. It had a 15% discount but I didn't bite. Due to their good customer service (for letting me know instead of dumping a bad copy onto me), I asked for the missing products. They'll be receiving a shipment of all artbooks in a few weeks and I'll be a owner of those three books.

gJMuoHs.jpgYes, be mines as well.

In the mean time though, I preordered the following which should ship next month. From what I gather, this is a collection of Range Murata's work. Like sure he can be lewd but this guy's work is spot on. I have love his stuff for forever. I just could never collect most of his stuff... til now ($$$).

Sooner or later I'll be doing artbooks of photographs, classic art and other things. It's all too coffee table book like...

What can I say? I finished the other two and I needed more. Don't know what I'll do after this one, though. There's two more books available on Amazon but they're both short story compilations, which I find less interesting. I'll definitely get them eventually but they're likely to include some of the stories the anime is adapting, so I'll probably wait until it's over to avoid "spoiling" it.

So my old phone, the S6 was alright, but the battery life on it has always been less than ideal and I didn't like the lack of an expansion slot. The S7 fixes both of those problems in addition to better performance, and since the S8 is out now it cost me less than 500 to do this slight upgrade.

This one is just a tax time treat for me. As much as I listen to music, I really should have invested in some decent headphones a long time ago. These were 200.

"Who wears a watch anymore?" I can already hear you say.  Well, I do.  I like being able to check the time without having to pull out my phone constantly, and sometimes I can't be taking my phone out anyway.  Up until now I've been getting by on fairly cheap watches.  Target and Wal-mart Timex fare, but they're just not very reliable over time.  The Timex I have at the moment tells the time, but the light on it died a long time ago which makes it worthless at night.  This is my first smartwatch, but I didn't go crazy.  This is a kickstarter watch that normally costs about 150 bucks online, but I got it for around 120 thanks to a discount code.  There's no need to buy a new data plan for it.  This does mean you can't use it as a phone when you don't have your phone already nearby, but I take my phone with me everywhere anyway so that's a useless feature.  You can still use it for calls and texts as long as your phone is within bluetooth range.  I really just want something with customizable faces and the ability to check my notifications and incoming calls without always having to take my phone out.  If I don't like it, I have 30 days to send it back anyway.

Oh yeah. I got a Fitbit Charge 2

My Casio, which I love for it being solar powered and auto-timing to the atomic clock thing, has recently kind of not done so well with the solar powered side of things. So opted to get one of these, it's not quite a smartwatch (which with my old Gear I'd found I wasn't too keen on) but do like it for the health side of things. Mainly so far with the sleeping stuff, which it has helped with in the two weeks I've had it. But do hope to make use of it for tracking health n such, bit of gamification n what not.

Only main issue I have with it is for it to work during sleep you have to strap it a bit further up your arm than your wrist, and it's left some marks on my arm with like drying my skin or something. Also while you can tell it in the app if you're right or left handed, you can't swap it "upside down" to put the button on the otherside.

That reminds me, I did end up buying a knife for whittling, but I decided to go for a folding one instead of the morakniv, even though I prefer those. I thought a folding one was safer when it's stored.

I've cut a bit of wood with it and was surprised how smoothly it went through. Now I need to get some dry wood to try and get a feel for it and something to sharpen the blade back up.

Had a Costco cashback for a decent sum (part me, part my parents) so I'm using part of my tax return to cover the difference. This make it so that I don't need to bring a DLSR to my brother's place in NY and he doesn't need to bring one over to us in CA. Also now I have a fun toy to play with. It'd be cool to see if I can get portraits and family photos to make people look right... and space photos. I want to get a good enough setup to nail down a decent Jupiter photo and such (e.g., solar eclipse 2024)
