Galaxy Tab A 10.5. Was originally going to buy a Tab Pro off of a relative who was looking to get an iPad, but when I asked them about it last week they said they had already given it to their niece. :P Then I found this one on sale, cheaper than the A 10.1 too. \m/ \m/ :P

HyperX Alloy Elite RGB (That's a name :P ), I had been using an 8 year old HP membrane keyboard for a while and though it still works fine,it had some small issues, and then yesterday I saw this one go on sale for less than other comparable membrane keyboards even though this one's mechanical so I decided it was worth the price. :P  Arrived today! \m/ \m/

Best feature is the media keys, most other mechanical keyboards lack them and those that do seem to think they're worth a $50-$80 premium.

Being my first mechanical keyboard its hard to compare it to others in its range, but compared to my old one it's a world of difference, really liking it so far though I've yet to try any gaming on it, for typing it's pretty cool, though the smaller and more sensitive keys certainly punish any mistakes. :P

Sony's WH-1000XM3 active noise cancellation headphones. Got this for working at home or wherever that is noisy. It works really, really well. There would be silence if I didn't have tinnitus (really prominent in my right ear, playing something soft sounds like I am only having mono sound coming from the left can).

I got annoyed by checking the temp so often so... Yeah. BBQ TOWN BABY.

I think the biggest thing is now I can check the air temp and internal temp at the same time without popping the lid. With the lid on, I could check air temp but not internal meat temp. All I should be doing now is adjusting the airflow for temp control once the meats are all in.

And yeah, up to three meats. All different or all the same. It doesn't matter.

THIS WEEKEND WILL BE TRI TIP ROUND TWO.

m720-triathlon-mouse.png

My third M510 mouse died yesterday. It sucks because the M510 is comfortable and has nice, big buttons on the side but the build quality is total crap. Fortunately I had a warranty on it, which I used to apply the cost to the M720. If you want a wireless mouse with side buttons that isn't 100+ dollars then Logitech is practically the only game in town whether you like it or not. I settled with this one primarily because it's supposed to be rated for ten million clicks. We'll see if that holds true, but for now I do like having an extra invisible button on the left side. I've got it programmed as a middle click for now since clicking scroll wheels can always be a little finicky.

As I posted in the other thread, I have been messing around with astrophotography, and I had kind of reached the limit of what I can accomplish without better equipment. Well my grandpa had a 10" telescope that he doesn't use anymore, and said I could have. That's awesome, but I've been messing with that and with the eyepieces he had the lowest magnification I'm able to get is about 80x (magnification is scope focal length divided by eyepiece focal length), which means you're only looking at a very tiny piece of the sky and it can make it hard to find specific targets. So I bought an eyepiece with a longer focal length to reduce magnification to help me find specific objects, and then once I have them locked in I can switch out for higher magnification if I want. The other thing is an adapter to allow me to connect my Canon Rebel T4 camera that I already had (that's what I've been using so far with a 300mm zoom lens) directly into the telescope.

Speaking of new hobbies...

I use to have two G Gundam model kits as a kid. Only had a pair of scissors and nail clippers, so the models were rough in certain spots. I played with mine though during the show, so it wasn't a big deal. I don't believe my parents kept them and while I've been watching some Gundam on VRV, I got the itch to build a model with my hands again. I got the box today and it's definitely going to be a weekend kind of project.

I also have another on the way, one from my favorite Gundam series: The 08th MS Team!

I got tired of carrying around a standard monitor around so I decided to try this portable version out. Basically just tear off the screen portion of a standard monitor. So now everything work related with regards to electronics fits in my backpack. It also might even fit in together with my personal laptop in my laptop bag. I'll probably also get a compact wireless keyboard and mouse too (looking for one now actually... most have really lousy arrow keys) to seal the deal (my current one sticks out of my backpack...). Anyhow...

An air purifier for my room/house. Note this isn't that small. I'm really sick and tired of all the dust in my room clinging to everything so I'm hoping it'll knock it down somewhat. From what I can tell (based on my desk), so far so good. It seems to work nice after a vacuum session too. Actually, one thing I didn't count on is that it mixes the air in my room really well, to the point that there's no upper hot air mass from my desktop if I shut the window (as I often do over the winter) and door. It can impart a gentle breeze in my room that I really like.

This also will be really nice if/when the wildfire comes roaring back. I'm debating of getting another model like the much raved for cheapish Honeywell or I might get an expensive Dyson one that can also act as a fan (wildfire sometimes comes in tandem with heatwaves...).

That monitor looks awesome.

I forgot to post it in here but we also got an air purified for our bedroom. My wife has been really stuffed up for a while, and even switching her allergy medicine didn't really help, so we thought it might be dust in the air. It's made a huge difference. We got a Winix 5500-2:

They're definitely not small, this one's about 2.5 feet tall.

I keep going around and around in my head about getting a new, bigger monitor, and it's all because of Nier: Automata. That game crashes when I try to play it on my TV because my TV supports HDR (which makes the game crash even if you have HDR disabled), so to play it I'll have to do it on my monitor, but my monitor (20") feels so small compared to my TV that I don't want to do that, so then I go "maybe I should get a bigger monitor", but then I think that's stupid to get a bigger monitor just for one game when I have my 4k TV hooked to the computer that works for every other game, then I come back around to but I really want to play Nier: Automata...

Probably cheaper to get a PS4 copy at this point. :P

Alternatively, have you tried using the FAR mod? It fixes a lot of issues with the port.

There might also be something useful here if you haven't checked: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Nier:_Automata

I kind of wanted a camera tripod but life has other needs so...

71RQc3vbZ7L._AC_SL1500_.jpg

I got a dehumidifier*. I've been considering it for over a year** since it can get rather humid in the house if I go steaming or just cooking dinner. Like dripping condensation on the windows and window frame. Hell, there can be condensation on the walls too as if someone took a shower in the living room. This is not good for the house and I have noticed that certain existing pain cracks on the walls being expanded and with the edges curled outward... as if it is getting wet and then dried. So yeah, hopefully this unit can keep that from happening and progressing.

For tonight's Chinese New Year dinner, I had this running and this defeated a kitchen that has been running for most of the day. So far so good... and it also produces clean (?) water for my plants.

There are a few cons to it however... it's rather loud even on low but I guess it's to be expected since it is essentially an AC unit. Being the case, it also heats up the room rather noticeably. It's kind of the physics of it all that I forgot about when I got this.

No matter, I'm going to have this go at 50% RH (normal for my area is like 65%; mold growth >60%) and sees how it goes with noise and electricity usage. Since I'm the one paying utilities, yay, it's my problem.

*Sadly I cannot get a smart thermostat without a ton of fiddling... else I would've gotten that over this.

**Also after seeing one in action in Taiwan to keep the AirBnB place comfortable.

The heating up the room part can be annoying, but a silver lining to that is that warming up the room also reduces RH (warmer air has more "room" for water, but the actual amount of water hasn't changed, so the % RH goes down) so it doesn't have to run the compressor as much as it would if it didn't warm up the room.

Well, the heating up the room isn't necessarily a bad thing. Kind of defeats the need for running the heater for the living/dining room as well.

Anyhow, after the next few days (trying to dry out the space between the double pane windows), the dehumidifier will probably only run when I cook and for a bit at night to get anything excess moisture I missed. None of the issues will necessarily be an issue then. Besides, it seems silly to try to completely suppress the ambient RH (60-65%) all the time. Probably will have it on when it decides to rain or be excessively foggy.
