Prime day I have bought a drill, a drill set, and a selection pack of screws and wall plugs, because I am an adult.

Also my friends are adults and one completed today, so I threw in house warming gift of a tool set to the order.

My basket did briefly hold a 4K Samsung monitor and a 1tb WD m.2 SSD but figured they'll always go on sale again in the future (black Friday next month) and the drill ismore useful right now (I want to put some shelving up and can't be arsed constantly borrowing a drill)

I decided I should read more short fiction and the place I get my books from has all their Stephen King on sale for October. So, I did the natural thing: went completely overboard and bought most of his short fiction collections (along with a few of his novels that I really want to read.) The ones marked in red are those I already had.

I also got this collection of 100 short stories by Ray Bradbury because you gotta have some Ray Bradbury. Can't just be all Stephen King all the time.

For work I for sure can see the use for such a device at a fraction of a cost of say an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil. It would also work out pretty well for say the second half of undergrad and into grad school. Hell, I kind of want one for myself but I'm unsure how "futureproof" it will be as in how well will it run in say 5 years or more but then again I can say the same for other traditional tablets. It also might not matter with the specs. Hmm...

Can you straight up load e-books on it as well? ?

You can load epubs, and pdfs so, yeah it is good for reading (and you can scribble on your books). Reddit considers it fairly hackable too.

Writing on it feels reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaally nice. I've been using it a fair bit of the past couple of days. making lists, checking them twice. Notes for wedding planning. Even sketched a design for my wedding ring. Think it will be handy for seating plan as well. Also used it for noting things when playing puzzle games.

Only downside is that it is on the pricey side, though the v1 is obvs now more affordable. I'm lucky that I can afford it.

So I finally broke down and got a tablet. While the Remarkable 2 looks/specs so nice but I also want something to draw with. Unlike the aging iPad Pro, the Tab S7+ is buttery smooth with a 120hz display (Tab S6 was 60hz). It also comes with the pen which should be on par with the Apple Pencil. Another thing that pushed me is how the app landscape has so changed much. In the past, the iPad was king due to it's tech and apps. No more.

So yeah... this will be a glorified Youtube screen in bed. lol

I've wanted a 4K TV for a while but I don't have a lot of space and until now nobody has ever made one in a 32-in size, which is nuts. I've heard people claim that you can't tell the difference with a screen that size but I am telling you now that's a load of crap. The picture on this thing is amazing.

Pixel per inches.

A good comparison is downscaling in a game rather than any other anti-aliasing method. Another in person example are phones and tablets. I mentioned in Discord how amazing art looks like on my new tablet. Part of it comes down to color, yes, but another major factor is the resolution versus the screen size. Hell, my old phone before the battery blew up had a smaller but similar resolution as my current tablet. Photos there looked amazing too.

4K at 32" would be noticeable, but there are certainly diminishing returns the smaller you go. It's why I didn't both with 4K on my computer monitor. Heck, on my previous phone I would watch video at 720p because 1080p made so little difference. It also comes down to color and the lighting of the television/monitor. A quality screen and dynamic range go a long way.

There's also how cost effective it has been to make television screens, so even getting a smaller television is more so down to the consumer's available space rather than cost. Go into a Best Buy and the majority of their 19"-32" sizes are their Insignia brand. Not to say you won't find an LG or Vizio, but you're going to find more of the lower tier brands as well.

Oh yeah, when I said diminishing returns I didn't mean it was a bad purchase, I definitely think it makes a very noticeable difference. I was talking about how you mentioned some people claim it's pointless at that size, and meant that you have to increase resolution more at each step to get the same benefit, which is why 4k looks about as much better than 1080p as 1080p does compared to 720p, but still the jump is very noticeable.

Yeah, it's not a bad purchase and I've looked into those Samsung televisions before. Just something like 4K on a bog standard 19" screen isn't going to be worth it over 1080p. So anyone with a small TV in their camper or dorm room shouldn't be itching for 4K (nor would you be easily able to find one).

finally replaced the built in Optane drive on my laptop with a proper SSD. Currently going through the fun process of moving my main drive over to this one.

I also got myself one of these

It's quite a bit bigger than I was expecting (but in a "reassuringly chunky" kind of way). Mainly got it for the cord labelling functionality - I have a lot of black power cables and HDMI leads I'd like to not have to trace every time.

Pixel 3 XL (refurb) - My current 1st gen Pixel is finally crapping out on me, it crashes any time I try to make or receive a phone call. Like, the whole phone freezes and then does a hard reset. So that obviously doesn't work very well. It's a known issue with the 1st gen Pixel, something about the audio processor chip not being soldered securely enough, I'm actually kind of lucky it's lasted this long. Decided to go for the XL this time because it was only $18 more and the bigger screen will be nice for remote playing PS5 games, which I've been doing a lot more of recently.
