Mal
So... is Kim Jong Un dead? North Korea is acting mighty strange in a good way I suppose?
TheFlyingGerbil
They admitted he is ill but what I read is that there may be a quiet coup with people in his government trying to take control while he is out of action. Of course with him not being seen in a month it could all just be rumours of who is trying to take control after he is dead. I guess we won't know until whoever is on power wants us to Edited October 8, 2014 by TheFlyingGerbil
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I think he pissed a lot of people off by actually attempting to seize control himself rather than just being a puppet.
SomTervo
From the US thread: Ethan and I discussing what IS' remit is, then him informing me: "No, they're forming a state, they collect taxes and issue license plates." I said: That's crazy and good to know, nice one. Apparently IS also pay an insanely good wage (relatively) for soldiers, and offer a lot of employment benefits to people who otherwise would just be working barely-arable farmland. Even if an impoverished Muslim doesnt agree with them, the best thing to do for his family and welfare would be to sign up. Horrifyingly effective recruitment rhetoric. deanb
Word was he'd broken his ankles from a combo of putting on a vast amount of weight since taking leadership, and going to the fashion of high heeled shoes. That a couple days after this North Korea wants to chat with South Korea out of the blue does put a big huge "so what's going on over there". No doubt higher ups will know (as in like our intelligence agencies..maybe), but as Ethan said when whoever is in charge wants the world know they're in charge they'll pipe up. deanb
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-29608096 Kim Jong-un is alive. He has a cane, so I guess that lends credence to the whole "in surgery cos he broke his ankles from a combo of fat n shit shoes"
Mal
He must of had some shitty shoes because if my younger brothers who are/were a lot more fatter than Kim is never broke their ankles then I must really question Kim's shoes or general overall health. I would check his liver.

deanb
http://www.budget.gov.ie/Budgets/2015/FinancialStatement.aspx#section3 Oooh, now this could be biggish news for EU and American companies (and probably others too, ubt you mostly hear of American companies abusing it). Latest Ireland budget looks to close the "Double Irish" tax avoidance scheme. Going to be interesting to see how that pans out. I can't see companies that are quite well established with European markets deciding to pull out mind, but I imagine if they're suddenly going to see their tax bill jump up they're likely to react somehow. There had been quite a bit of talk of this of late, and it's a long time coming. I'm honestly quite surprised to see it being stamped down upon. Mister Jack
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-29625481 Looks like the ebola situation isn't going to be getting better anytime soon.
deanb
So what's non-UK folks opinions on the whole "will they, won't they" of UK leaving EU? I only really get exposure to the internal discussion so quite interested to see how it looks for other nations.
TheMightyEthan
I knew that there were some people who wanted to, but until this moment was not aware it was considered a real possibility.
TheRevanchist
Last night my wife asked me if I had seen the news. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/12/17/pakistan-mourns-death-142-killed-in-taliban-attack/ I am sad for those who were murdered and for those who have to mourn their families. TheFlyingGerbil
It seems like a decent summing up of the whole thing to me. often when you go to a news website you have to read half a dozen articles to get the whole story as each one just give info on the latest occurrence. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, it seemed really weird to me at first, but made sense once I thought about it, for that reason.
