Uses WiiFit scales as regular scales through your phone. Tested it earlier on my mums scales. Which also meant I found out I'd lost a further stone since I last weighed start of year. I thought I'd actually started putting back on, so I'm gonna blame having flab still left so I guess toning would be the thing to do. My gran n mum giving me some cash for birthday to buy some gym gear (mainly trainers).

I think my body shape is evening out despite my weight is settling out at about 193 lbs, which is about my weight in high school. The thing is, my mom and grandma comment on how thin I look. I also personally just realized that my tummy is not as pronounced.

 

Thus I'm thinking that part of my weight gain is from increased muscle mass in my legs. Kind of weird. I'm similar to how i was back in high school (Weight wise) but my fitness level is waaay better. Again, weird.

weight (and BMI) is the worst measure for fitness and size - you should go on how you look and how you feel and if your results are getting noticed then it must be going well. If you want to have an actual number to measure then I guess the best thing is your body fat percentage.

Oh I hadn't made my first post on this. Anywho joined a gym (as mentioned parents n grandparents threw birthday cash at me to do so). Had to wait a bit to use the weights (hehehe) due to initial induction being cut short. Though yet to actually make use of them, not wanting to bulk up, and tbh despite asking a few times on ideal starting all I've been told so far is "8 reps", as opposed to any suggestion on actual weight and/or machines to use. (well apart from "oh you don't want to use those, there for ladies").

Mainly atm doing cross trainer (or "elliptical" as it's seemingly known to some people including Fitocracy) and rowing machine, but there's only three rowing machines and all were in use today so shifted to the treadmill, which I hate using, so basically just did a slightly high powered walk/light jog on it.

started to work out after about a year and a half. Since my best shape I've gained slightly less than 30 lbs. My plan is to get as close to that weight as possible. Three times a week and somewhat relatively low calorie foods. Let's do this. This'll be a chronicle for the ages my niggas.

So not sure if I ever mentioned it here but I've been taking hydroxicut pills alongside exercise and eating decently. Not sure how much I've lost but starting this week I'm gonna start having a protein shake for breakfast and dinner alongside a heavy lunch. Around the in week/week and a half I'll see how much I've lost. I haven't worn jeans in a while since it's summer but I'm finally starting to be able to go down to the last notch as I was able to early last semester, and when I lay down on my side I no longer feel the pillsbury doughboys/tires/fatrolls roll towards each other and form a crevice so I guess that's a positive.

 

If results are good/ok I might post results but my dieting so far hasn't been bad or note-worthy, I just haven't been eating as badly as I have this semester in general while somewhat counting calories as well. I've also been doing decent exercise, 2 times a work week I go to the gym for an hour and saturday when I'm in my hometown I've been doing a lot of shit with my friend who is pretty fit due to muai thai and krav maga who wants somebody to do this shit with. First grocery I'm gonna buy more salads and vegetables will be this one I do monday.

Kudos for getting yourself to be more active!  The best thing you can do is try to make a habit of finding time to work out, then gradually build it up.  I've been kinda slacking myself, lately.  I've been trying to force myself to run every other day.  I honestly don't even like running all that much, but I just wanna start building up endurance.  Lately it's only been about once or twice a week.  I keep trying to give myself excuses for why I can't take an hour to run or bike.  I am pretty active at work, thankfully, but I still feel it's not really enough.  Actually, the Oatmeal's latest post is what really motivated me to get up and do stuff.  He works out so he CAN eat his favorite greasy junk food and not have any consequence.

Why are you going to have a protein shake for breakfast and dinner and a heavy lunch every day when you're only working out 2-3 days a week?

 

By protein shake I should've said breakfast shake. Those meal replacers basically. Losing weight boils down to not eating past a certain amount of calories and working out anyways, so if I have a right size breakfast shake instead of a heavy dinner like I tend to do [i tend to not eat breakfast due to not being hungry but have a heavy lunch and dinner] then in terms of to the barebones ideals I should be having less calories in my system and lose weight more effectively than if I kept up my current eating habits. My sisters have done it. And I'm working out 4 hours a week, 2 hours weekdays and 2 hours straight on saturday.

 

@LittlePirate: that was my issue for the last year and a half when I stopped going to the gym regularly. I would ALWAYS find excuses to not go to the gym or not work out. Most of them ranged from "I have to do [bla] by tomorrow". The gym is less than 2 minutes away by car and parking can be about a dollar for 2 hours if I go at the right time, but I still found excuses to tell myself that even taking an hour out of my day to go there would ruin my schedule. 26 extra lbs later and going up in pants size I realized I care enough about my look to better myself. Once I graduate college I want to be decently fit so night life and attracting the opposite sex won't entirely rely on my face and personality. But I love eating good too much to turn into a health freak. Fuck that.

I say just do some weights now. More muscle mass means you can potentially burn off more calories/energy. I wouldn't even worry too much about your weight since if you get a better fat:muscle ratio, then you're doing good.

 

Me personally... I'm surprised that I held at below 190 lbs all this time during my 30+ days of no bike exercise. Watching what you eat can do wonders even if you're not dieting. I'm pretty much going off the ball park for two-three eggs a day worth of protein/fats and the rest can be fair game. At the very least, what I eat for the week all evens out at the end. So... I eat what I want. Nice, thick menudo for a few days? BRING IT.

I should also hit the gym for the weights. Or do abdominal exercises for not to lose the tummy per say (It would get rid about 5-10 lbs...) but to strengthen those muscles so it can hold back a semi tummy. I wonder what can I knock out in a 6 weeks for my NYC visit to my folks there. At bare minimum I don't look like a malnourished kid anymore with thin arms and legs with a bulging tummy. That was an odd time.

I'd do weight lifting if I could, but I'm following a high protein low carbs/sugars diet with a doctor and I have a pamphlet of what I can/can't do and eat.. Weight lifting is a no no at least until this week I'll see once I reach the second phase. I was close to 209 lbs and I'm at 194 lbs right now. I did the hydroxicut pills for a month with moderate exercise and went down to.. 204 lbs or so. Then I stopped doing exercising and heavy dieting for a 2-3 months and miraculously since I don't eat terribly I went down to 199 lbs. Then I started this diet and in one week I lost 5 lbs. Realistically he tells me I might end close to 185 lbs at the end of the 4 weeks plan. Then it's up to me to lose the extra 5 by healthy eating and exercising.

 

At the best shape of my life, with probably more muscle mass, I was around 180 lbs. So my goal is to get closer to the best shape I was in and lower my fat content further.

 

 

Similar to you Mal, I'm visiting family these holidays. I tend to lose a couple more lbs when I visit my home country since I walk more and the food and serving sizes are healthier but usually I tend to go there kind of chubby and leave at a decent weight. This time I'd like to go there looking somewhat fit and leaving a bit more fit.

So I've finally decided on a big step. After years where I've noticed that my biggest issue with going to the gym is that I don't want to have to fight for the few parking spaces you don't need a school permit though and the gym being packed 24/7 unless you go at very specific times that do not work in my schedule, I was never going to get any strength training done. So I get a very sizable christmas and birthday cash present from my folks (they're leaving to another country for 3 years and leaving my sisters and I here since we're all grown up at this point). I could've used the money to spend on video games and things of the sort, but I decided to go with a bunch of home gym equipment (weight bench, 2 adjustable dumbbells, ab wheel and push up bars). Now I know for a fact I'll work out as actually going out to do shit was my biggest issue due to what was mentioned above. As for cardio, fuck that I hate cardio unless it's a game.
