Sim City V

Weird that the "help wanted" signal is an agent that actually has to traverse the world, rather than being more like a broadcast.

Most likely to do with how the game is made. Also if it moves by roads it know how far, by road, the person is from work (Since the sims move by road). But by a broadcast, line of sight, the sim may be just a couple of units away, but actually be a few miles of road away.

edit: as for speed, possibly just to show you. He's in a debug view, I'm sure they'll have a "run these elements slowly so I can see where it's going wrong" control.

You know why we don't believe you Maxis? Because based on what you've said about the multiplayer so far it is not so fundamentally integrated into the game as to justify the lack of an entirely offline mode. It's just nifty add-on features.

Honestly, for me at least continuing to try to claim that it's not a DRM measure at all is doing more damage to their image than if they'd just admit it's DRM. I can live with startup-activation DRM, but them maintaining this position damages their credibility with me, and damaged credibility is difficult to repair.

So it's "always online DRM" because they've offloaded some of the simulation to their servers.Which means that it's not just a simple DRM scheme, it's a case of when (not if) EA's servers go down for Sim City V (I guess around about when VI comes out) Sim City V will no longer be playable. Sim City 4, ten years on, works fine.

Well I find this news disappointing I dont think its bad enough to prevent me from playing the game. I, for some stupid reason, believe that eventually there will be a patch that will allow you to save your progress on your hard drive.

Seconded. I've been waiting maybe 10 years for this game, I'm not backing out now, even if it could very well be the Duke Nukem Forever of the series.

And if they ever release such a thing, I'll buy the game, but until then no sale.

Also, now that I think about it, I thought they said a while ago that it only required connect-at-startup, and that if you lost your internet connect you could continue to play. Did I make that up?
