Mal
It made a scream? I recall running a video card that required the separate plugs without the plugs. It just gave out a onscreen warning that you'll won't being doing much without the power plugs but it'll display for you. Also all my problems with hardware is me being a tad bit brutish... everything works but I'm not proud. I can't be happy with a damaged case... Le sigh. TheMightyEthan
It was a 8800 GTX and yes it screamed, and wouldn't display anything.
Thursday Next
Tried breadboarding. No joy. She is le fucked. RMA raised. Picking it up tomorrow. Not a great start. *shrug*
MasterDex
That sucks but at least it's gone from the get-go and not when the warranty or RMA periods are up.
Battra92
That sucks but at least it's gone from the get-go and not when the warranty or RMA periods are up. Exactly! I've had CPUs come in that were bad as well as faulty power supplies and hard drives. I'd prefer DOA over failing at a later (probably the worst) time. Thursday Next
Yeah, it's mildly frustrating. I'm not one to beat my chest and tear my hair and wail at the injustice of it all. The only kicker is that it takes 10 days to RMA when it only took 24 hours to deliver the stuff when I bought it. Ho hum. It'll be worth it in the end. If you're really lucky, you'll get something extra back too. That's happened a few times to people I know. Never me though....never me. Thursday Next
My luck isn't exactly running strong at the mo. But here's hoping.
Thursday Next
RMA result: BIOS was version F3. Ivy Bridge processors not supported until version F7. BIOS has been updated to version F8. Everything works now (allegedly).
Thursday Next
It is alive! Somewhat annoyingly I realised this morning that I forgot to put the mobo speaker back in. It's sitting on my desk. But otherwise, all systems go. It's rated 7.6 on the windows index thingy. Is that good?
MasterDex
Nice. 7.6 on the windows index is good enough. More important is how it performs under pressure. BREAK OUT CRYSIS!
Thursday Next
Haha, I left it downloading. Will benchmark it properly when I get in. Oh, one quick BIOS question... Is it better to have Boot from CD before Boot from HDD? I had to switch them around to get everything installed, but now I'm wondering if it wouldn't boot quicker without checking the DVD drive first. (It'll only save me about 0.5 of a second, but if I can get those half seconds back, so much the better.
TheMightyEthan
I have mine boot from HDD first and then I just hit the F-whatever button during BIOS load to select boot device if I need to boot from a CD for some reason. Re: Windows Experience Index: Mine's a 5.9, though it would be a 7.5 if not for my slow HDD (you'd think 6GB/s SATA would be good enough...) and I don't really have problems running games.
