Mal
I didn't expect much (Green bottle should be enough to warn me) but god damn this Italian beer is awful. I think I prefer Tsingtao to this even then though the differences between the two aren't much. Hell, I might prefer even Corona and that is perhaps the cheapest made beer possible. Peroni's Nastro Azzurro by the way.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Are we counting malt liquor in this cheapest beer battle? And Corona is still better than Genesee.
Mal
If its made like a beer with beer ingredients then yeah. I also never heard of Genesee which may be a good thing.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I've seen 24 oz cans go for a dollar or two. It's malt liquor priced but is similar to budweiser, bud light, etc.
Mal
After going dry for almost two months due to being not able to afford beer, the weather decided to turn hot (100 degree Fahrenheit) and I got stabbed by broken glass. Incredibly annoyed, I said fuck it and bought some beers. I'm trying out Firestone Walker's Easy Jack. A session style IPA. Going by flavors and mouth feel, yup, it's a Jack alright and it's all in a 4.5% abv package. I can't say I care for IPAs enough to warrant them to be session beers. Soon I'll try FW's Opal. God damn, I could use their DBA on tap. It's isn't as sharp as Jacks.

Mal
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siHU_9ec94c And I fucking bought Budweiser for a cheap field beer too. If they think they can say that while buying up craft brews left and right then they can go fuck themselves. Firestone and Oscar Blues canned beer for field beer all the way now. Mal
I loath spiced rum but white rum is pretty good. Not vodka in terms of burn and emptiness in anything so it's fine on it's own or on the rocks. It's also a great solution to my very healthy mint plant. Buy some limes or lemons, club soda and away I go to mojitos. For the sugar, I think I might blitz it through a grinder to get it fine so it dissolves easily. Regular sugar just don't dissolve as quickly as I like. One thing though, a 3/4 cup of drinkable liquid per serving is not very much... doubling or tripling or quadrupling it doesn't seem to be a good idea. I look at my bottle of white rum and I start calculating how much I would make if I was a bartender/bar owner. Or better yet, how much I save as a consumer. Oh yeah. For reference I got a bottle of Cruzan and Flor de Caña. Cruzan is $8 and Flor de Caña is $16. 750 ml of each. The Cruzan has an amber tinge and is a bit rougher. The Flor de Caña is clear and quite a bit better. At my level, the Cruzan is a mixer (but fine on it's own. I think of it as the Evan Williams [a bourbon] of white rum) while the Flor de Caña is a sipper but I can easily see why Flor de Caña is great in cocktails though. TheFlyingGerbil
Why not make a simple syrup for the sugar? That way the sugar's already dissolved so you only need to stir it in to the drink/give it a quick shake. It's easy to do and you can make it in batches so it's always on hand. If you don't want to water your drink down to much you can double the sugar to water ratio to 2:1 so you'll be diluting less for a given level of sweetness, with the added advantages that it will keep longer, and store in half the space.
Mr. GOH!
Simple syrup is a pain in the ass to make. Better to learn to love the burn. Edited March 24, 2017 by Mr. GOH!
deanb
Why not use caster sugar? That way it's a bit finer and will dissolve easier than regular sugar. (technically icing sugar is even finer, but it's got a bit of anti-caking agent in so isn't as pure). Or depending on how you're making stuff you could get an absinthe spoon and get the sugar into your drink the same way you do with absinthe and pour it over a sugar cube. Mal
I could buy caster sugar but then it's another sugar I'll have in the pantry. I much rather just sent it through a grinder. More or less the same result and I think having the occasional normal sugar crystal is nice. Space it out and it adds quite the nice sweetness pops (think pop rocks kind of pop) to the drink. Simple syrup is, well, simple to make. I make my own caramel sauce/candy and simple syrup is pretty much first step or two of that process (if using water) but stopped before things really get to be a pain in the ass. Caramel is the type of thing you almost need an apprenticeship to learn to make consistently well. Might try this route but hold back on the normal amount and add some regular sugar for the aforementioned sweetness pops. Simple syrup might have a place in some food I make as well so that's a bonus. And I'm fine with the burn. I typically drink my hard liquor straight or on the rocks. It's the plainness of club soda that needs to be tamed. Flavor of plain soda water or even slightly flavored soda water just isn't a thing for me. TheFlyingGerbil
I don't even like mead, but I kind of want to make that sarsaparilla one after watching that. Mal
I'm blanking on when I had that beer (four years ago?) but 2 hours ago, TheFlyingGerbil said: Is green glass a bad sign? Yes and no. It's just let in more light into the beer. Brown glass block more light and I think it even blocks UV light. Worst is clear glass like you find with Corona. Light will skunk the beer, giving it off flavor and odor. Of course, if you store the bottles correctly then it shouldn't be a problem. The problem is the storage conditions from the brewery to the distributors then to the stores to you.
Mal
This also depends on what kind of beer you are pouring and how you like your beer. You can get a flat beer quickly. I personally do it 50/50. Edited March 13, 2018 by Mal

toxicitizen
Oh good, this thread exists. Cause I had no idea where the hell I was supposed to post this but I felt like you guys needed to see it. My friends and I started going down the craft beer rabbit hole last summer and here's our latest discovery. Some of the small breweries in our area apparently don't give a fuck about copyright infringement. It was so delicious that you could just tell it couldn't possibly be an official Sonic product.
toxicitizen
We went back for more on friday night. Didn't realize I had such a shit angle on it but the first one is called Save Peach. It did not taste like peach at all, to my great disappointment. The other one was alright. They also have a Star Wars themed Imperial Stout (get it?) called "Dark Side of the Stout" but the store only had one as a display (and warm) when I went and it was 10%, so I didn't ask if I could buy it. Didn't feel like being completely trashed that night lol.
toxicitizen
I went back to the copyright infringement well for more bullshit. Might try that one tonight. I'll make sure to update as I can tell you're all fascinated by my video games craft beer adventures. Update: It was pretty damn good! Definitely recommended as a beverage while playing Vermintide 2 with friends. I'm usually not a huge stout guy but I really liked this one.
