I'd forgotten about that picture you posted, and that is more convincing. Also, I knew the idea had occurred to other people before, which is why I figured it was just that Toph was the greatest earthbender ever that allowed her to do it. Again though, that picture convinces me. So does that mean if you could make some kind of ultra-pure metal you could make a metalbender-proof cage? *Edit* - I want to buy that comic but I don't want to pay for shipping on a $6 item and Walmart doesn't carry it in store. CorgiShinobi Posted April 23, 2012 Report Share Posted April 23, 2012 (edited) It's theorized that not all metals would act similarly in metalbending because the effective use of the metal is indeed based on how much un-purified earth is located in it. So precious metals like gold and silver wouldn't be that useful, though if you're in combat there is obviously going to be iron and steel to use if you're at a fortress, or etc. The other point I was going to make was how metalbending acts differently to earthbending. I just mention that different metals have different results, but (if my memory serves me) Toph has had to always been in, or very close, contact with metal to bend it. Unlike earth where an earthbender could move a slab some distance away from them, to bend the little bits of earth in the metal seems to require a more hands-on approach. So this leads up to how to contain a earth- and metalbender. Well, in the third season some Fire Nation officers threw Katara and Toph into a wooden cage. There was metal around, but Toph couldn't reach any of it. As far as a metal... I don't know which metals would be both strong and highly pure. I'm sure we could find something in our world, but in Legend of Korra they're at that stage where civilization is becoming more industrial. It's more about making devices than refining them. EDIT: Who's to know though since it has been 70 years and metalbending obviously became well-known. Maybe the series will display a unique cell like when we saw Korra and Lin in that 100% metal interrogation room. I do like this new villain. The show isn't that far in but so far he's been making Azula and Ozai look like amateurs. The previews didn't really show Tarrlok's nature, so I didn't get what people were getting at because the raid preview shows Tarrlok as a charismatic task force officer. Nothing that devilish. Oh, but watching the entire episode, "funnytail" man (who smells like a lady) is very sly and ambitious. Tenzin is right to question his motives. This was a great episode, again, because it really displays more of Korra's personality. She's very reliant on force, her bending abilities as the Avatar. It's how others have defined here, and in her nightmares "Amon" says that she would be nothing. Her subconscious bring her fears to light in a persona (again, Amon). Spoilers! Reveal hidden contents Now, I wonder if there is something with Asami and Hiroshi Sato. This coincides with Tarrlok as well as you know his ambitions must reach far beyond "getttin' those Equalists." It seems all too convenient that Asami has deeply fallen in love with Mako. It's great that the Fire Ferrets have a sponsor at least. Also, I'm pretty sure Mako and Asami's "encounter" was homage to FLCL, a known influence to The Last Airbender. Now there's also great importance to what Dean noticed, because there is someone else in... Reveal hidden contents the flashback. Tarrlok had mentioned earlier in the episode of a "Yukon" character. Someone who had threaten Empire City 42 years ago. There are so many theories about Amon being related to someone from the previous series, but all these theories undermine the independent continuation of the Avatar universe. There will be references to previous characters, because really, they are important attributes to the history of Legend of Korra's current time. However, it would be all too easy to focus continually on a set of characters from 70 years ago, having "sons and daughters" running around. Where am I getting at? That this Yukon character was so important to be brought up, to be used as a point in Tarrlok's argument and to be featured in a flashback all in one episode, there is something lingering from that event 42 years ago when Avatar Aang confronted the first threat to Empire City. Rather than being the son of "so-so" from TLA, Amon is proving to be more relevant to Legend of Korra. This is out of thin air, but perhaps the son of Yukon, the man who was accidentally killed by the Avatar. The Avatar, the great bender there could ever be at one time. It would definitely show that any action will have an eventual reaction. Still, I'm coming up with this on the spot. As for Amon's words to Korra... Reveal hidden contents I think it's a ruse. Amon probably can't "take away" Korra's bending. He's more so putting "the fear" into her, creating one of those, "I could have killed you, but I let you live. Therefore, you owe your life to me, the one who spared it" I was beginning to think those gang leaders were acting and had secretly joined Amon's true plan, something about becoming a united force and etc. Yet, Bolin being among them threw a wrench into that theory. Perhaps Amon would have just knocked him out? No, but he's right about Korra also becoming a martyr if her bending was ever "removed." Still, this shows how Amon is deceptive and knows how the masses think. He has manipulated them before, and his plan involves more than "create equality." He really is a great antagonist, but I also have a feeling that he won't be the final villain. The Last Airbender had multiple antagonists, all rather cunning and devious. I'm gonna miss Korra's episode but I hope that by the time I come back from Avengers with my friend the episode will be online already. It can be sd in youtube for all I care. I'm not sure if I want to watch this next episode with my buddies. Shit always gets kind of awkward in the animes we watch when there's a big emphasis on dating or relationships in an episode. A lot of clips about today's episode were released thoughout the week. i'd say 60% of them had to do with romance one way or the other. I don't mind romance, Avatar did it well. I feel like the creators are rushed this time around since the show will only be like 26 episodes this time around so they need to establish the hormones earlier. After all, it was Nick that knew the series would be a hit and ordered more episodes before the premiere. I'd say there are two reasons as to why we're jumping so fast into relationships: 1. Our main cast are teens, if not nearing young adulthood. If you're not busy fighting Equalists, you're busy fighting hormones. 2. Fangirls go bananas over shipping. The Last Airbender had a massive female audience due in part to how Aang would be a goof around Katara and especially when Zuko became a rogue. The animation was good and at least it seems like Reveal hidden contents the sexual tension is gone for now. Honestly I see myself in Bolin too much. I have loads of female friends I have had a crush on and ask to hang out, but I'm such a clown/not enough of a serious badboy that they have no interest in dating me. Bolin is too good for her, hopefully he'll find someone. And I love how they made the rivals next episode as douchey as possible. I have a feeling they'll lose the match but give them such a battle that it's almost a tie breaker. I want to watch next week's episode, especially since with that episode the whole Tournament thing will be done and the main plot dealing with the airbending training and fighting the POWAH can go on. In TLA, "love" mainly dealt with Aang's secret crush and Sokka being a start-up ladies' man. You had the occasional romance scene, mainly with Sokka and Zuko's girls of interest, though Katara had that moment with Haru and Zuko. Still, those were far and few. Made sense as most of the cast were tweens first discovering love rather than trying to go on dates and juggle feelings. The "Krew's" feelings affecting their pro-bending match was well done and rarely do you see these scenarios play out as such in animated shows. Usually they're in the background and not affecting the current goal. Here, the Fire Ferrets were essentially divided by personal struggles. While this episode might not make an eventual Top 10 list of Legend of Korra episodes, I actually laughed the most compared to the other episodes. Then again, this wasn't exactly a crucial plot-driven episode either so you could expect it to have much more humor. Now the little spoiler bits! Reveal hidden contents I see myself in Bolin too, though I could work on the muscle... Anyway, I think his relationship with Korra will have a benefit for him. The first impression you get with Bolin is that he wants to be admired by women, or really his fangirls. This at least gave me the thought that he doesn't exactly have solid female friendships. After all, as sweet and genuine as Bolin is, his date with Korra was more of a testament of how great friends they could be. Perhaps the more he's around Korra, the more he can control his sudden feelings of affection for any friendly women. As far as Mako, I dunno. I can guarantee he's going to start slipping up with Asami by thinking more about Korra. That is, before Asami pulls one over on him and uses him in an Equalist trap!
