TheMightyEthan
Well once you know about Yakune it's not really a hypothetical chance. I didn't mean just in case, I meant once we learned there were other blood benders out there.
Mister Jack
I think that if Amon were Aang's kid Aang probably would have mentioned that in his little home movie to Korra. I won't say it's impossible, but it seems unlikely that not only would Aang not mention it, but Tenzin wouldn't recognize his voice. As for bloodbending, it's explicitly mentioned that it becomes useless when used on a more powerful waterbender. Aang in the avatar state is basically 100+ benders all at the same time, and he's clearly mastered the ability to go in and out of it at will, so he didn't really need to practice resisting a bloodbender.
TheMightyEthan
Except the fact that Yakune was able to restrain him during the trial shows otherwise. Edited June 10, 2012 by TheMightyEthan
deanb
Yeah, only times he broke out of the hold are when popping into the Avatar State. Also Aang has been dead for a fair while, it's reasonable that he doesn't know what all of his kids or grandkids(Bumi could have a son, was the elder of the children) are up to. Mister Jack
I'm assuming you mean he was "able" to restrain him, and yes he was, but as soon as Aang went into the avatar state he broke right out of it. Edit: Maybe Aang wouldn't know if he died too early, but there would have to be a really good reason for Tenzin not to recognize his own brother's voice. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, that is what I mean. Fixing typo now...
CorgiShinobi
Because I feel this is relevant... Anyway, to those theories... I'll stand by my "Amon is a more powerful bloodbender" statement. The season finale preview even implies such with Amon's hand gestures and when Korra is kneeling on the ground having spasms about to be "equalized." If she was chi blocked, she would be like a limp noodle. We still don't know how Yakone and Tarrlok bloodbended without a full moon. However, there is something to be suspect about. I mentioned my suspicion about Amon's knowledge of where Tarrlok was keeping Korra, but I've thought it over again. Tarrlok, after the fight, went directly to his cabin in the mountains. Unless an Equalist was already spying on Tarrlok, Amon would not have the chance to follow Tarrlok until Tarrlok fled after bloodbending The Krew and Councilmen. Even then we are to believe he had the foresight for Tarrlok to be followed. HOWEVER, how did he know Korra was in a cage? Tarrlok didn't mention it at all during any of the scenes when in the cabin. Amon could overhear the two in the basement, but he knew she was in a cage still. I have to theorize that Tarrlok may actual still have had a connection with Amon. Now, probably not a 100% partnership, but perhaps they had an agreement of some sort. Or are they related? If Amon is a powerful bloodbender, he shares the same secret as Tarrlok. I don't believe that Bumi, a child of Avatar Aang, could be committed to such crimes against harmony. Just because he's a non-bender, AND children do not inherit "special bending." Sokka was talking about how people can be born with unique abilities, i.e. Combustion Man, or develop new techniques (or even bending like his example of Toph). Even with the common knowledge that a bloodbender needs a full moon, with his experience of unique benders and all the eye witness testimonies, he was readily able to believe Yakone was a special bloodbender, whether by genetics, spirituality, or a secret technique. If Tarrlok was born a waterbender, it's not that he inherited the power, but could have then be taught this advanced form of bloodbending. Anyway, I agree with Mister Jack's second-to-last post (#252). Because bloodbending is a high skilled bending form, chances are Avatar Aang didn't believe he would face bloodbenders, especially if they needed a full moon. Also, to break free of bloodbending, Aang would have to practice bloodbending too. As the Avatar, especially an Air Nomad, want to commit to practicing on animals and people? So, Avatar State, gain the strength of hundreds of other Avatars, and done.
Mister Jack
There's something about bending I've always wondered... Most elements have a secondary ability. Firebenders get lightning, Waterbenders get ice and blood. Earthbenders can potentially bend metal. What about air? As far as I can recall, we never saw an airbender bend anything besides plain old air. Don't they get a special ability?
CorgiShinobi
I believe it's soundbending, as Aang had (I believe) two instances where he amplified his voice. Of course, this is all speculative fan theory from TLA years ago. Even so, sound would probably be more of a tool than an offensive form. Sure, maybe some kind of "thunder clap," but nothing the likes of metal or bloodbending (as far as I can think). I see ice as a waterbending technique rather than a specialized form. There's also "plantbending," but to be honest it's bloodbending but with plant life. When Hama is teaching Katara about water in plants and the air, it's what leads into her knowledge of bloodbending. Still, it seems like you're more so waterbending with different arm motions to make sure the plants stay together. If I found it, someone made a really good chart (not 100%) that detailed the secondary forms and Avatar specific abilities (lavabending and etc). Mister Jack
Soundbending is my theory too, but I'm not really sure how useful it would be or how different it would be from airbending.
TheMightyEthan
I think lightning bending is really the only "different" kind of bending from the main elemental types. With ice/snow/blood/plant bending you're just bending the water in those things, not the things themselves (well except ice and snow, which are water), and likewise with metal bending you're just bending the unpurified earth within the metal, which is why you can't bend hyper-pure metals like platinum. Sure you have to be a powerful bender to be able to bend the element when it's so diluted in other things, but it's not really different in kind. CorgiShinobi
A few days ago I decided to get rid of my Tumblr because I have never been great at maintaining a blog. Not to mention my images have been blowing up on Reddit, so "Imgur+Reddit" it is! Speaking of, enjoy the fruits of my labor: My Imgur Images Personally, this is my favorite (2nd revised).

TheMightyEthan
I like the "It's super effective!" one, but I like the Avatar Aang spelling from this one. I was going to put those together on my own, but I can't figure out how to download a picture from imgur.
deanb
Right click - Save as. Same as any other image on the web.
TheMightyEthan
Doesn't work from the imgur album, it doesn't recognize it as an image so it tries to save the whole page when I do that. *Edit* - I can save the thumbnail, but not the actual animated gif. I was able to save the embedded one from here just fine. Edited June 13, 2012 by TheMightyEthan
deanb
click on the thumbnail in the album, it pops up a viewer much like on PXOD, you can right click the image from there n save it.
TheMightyEthan
No, that's what I'm saying, when I'm in the viewer it doesn't let me save the image, it tries to save the whole web page. *Edit* - If I click "Save as..." there it tries to save the whole web page, not just the image. deanb
Click the magnifying glass in the corner, takes you to a tab with just that image on. Can do anything you want from there.

CorgiShinobi
I like the "It's super effective!" one, but I like the Avatar Aang spelling from this one. See the problem with that one is that Razor Wind is a Normal-type move, and Normal-type moves have never been super effective against another type. And of course I changed the name because names in Pokemon can only be 10 characters long, so either I make it "AVATARAANG" or I make "AVATAR" into a class. I thought people wouldn't mind the 11 characters, but if you're going for a theme, more accuracy is preferred.
TheMightyEthan
No, yeah, I like making AVATAR into a class. Too bad about the super effective thing. I hadn't thought about that.
CorgiShinobi
As an FYI, if you've been relying on Nick.com for episodes, it appears that the "Full Episodes" category is going to be limited to six episodes. Kinda sucks because I wanted to pull some material from "The Revelation." If I was a "digital" copy kinda fella, I'd go ahead with either iTunes or Amazon. Any other online streaming service has crap quality and graphics, and you can't rely on YouTube because we're talking about Viacom material here. I guess I won't make my new idea is all. I was going to create another Comedian Amon, but this time guest starring Bolin.
Mister Jack
I've been refraining from iTunes because I'm hoping for a bluray once the season is over.
