The Legend of Korra

No, there's the one this Saturday, and then a 1-hour finale next Saturday. But yeah, this season is much shorter than one of TLA's. On the plus side, they've already confirmed there will be a second season that will start airing later this year.

It does help keep the filler down. Remember the canyon episode in TLA? Even the creators knew that was pointless.

The Great Divide.

I learned not too long ago that a lot of fans consider that to be the worst episode. Worst being a relative term of course, but still an immensely forgettable episode compared to the rest of the series.

That's another thing LoK has over TLA

Mature relationships, at least so far as to discuss them. In TLA, you saw how Zuko's mother wasn't comfortable around the "royal" aspect of her family, and how Katara's grandmother ran off to avoid marriage, but that was about it.

I've been meaning to mention this, but so everyone realizes this... Tenzin is 51, and Pema is 35. According to that "Welcome to Republic City" thing. I have to say, I thought she looked 45, but maybe that's what happens to you when you're raising three airbenders. Going on about Tenzin and Lin's relationship, we know it wasn't just Pema and in fact the two were pretty much on the verge, but Pema is what tipped the scales.

I can only imagine the anger Lin felt when her boyfriend, even if she wanted to break up, went off with some girl 15 years younger (Lin is 50) than herself. Like, say Pema was 18, then Lin would have been 33! Trying to toss Pema in jail, well, it doesn't seem so extreme given how emotional it must have become.

Kinda silly for Pema to suspect anything, or be jealous (whatever it may turn into), but you would think Lin perhaps harbors her own jealousy. Pema is only 35 years-old and already has three children. Lin had Tenzin, but lost him and she may feel like that was her only chance to having a family. Maybe we'll see Lin and Pema becoming closer at the end.

In "And The Winner Is..." when Korra says "I'm surprised she didn't try throwing her in jail" and Tenzin adds that she tried.

If you go on Nick.com for the episode, it's at 5:50.

EDIT: It's implied that was Lin's initial reaction, so nothing relatively close to the events of LoK.

Woah, WOAH!

I'm surprised no one else has posted anything about this amazing episode. I mean, without spoiling anything, it's setting up everything for the big 1 hour finale. Like, it's all straightforward, so no need to theorize, but the amount of action and bending we're use to from the original series is brimming to a high level.

Lin Beifong... just, she has always been a favorite, but that lady really

was the greatest metalbending police chief ever. That self sacrifice, truly emotional.

I'm also going to have a lot of scenes to GIF. Not one, or two, but probably a dozen.

Oh, also, Bumi is not Amon. Someone noticed a little detail given...

the uniform the "new" General Iroh was wearing. In the family tree chart, Bumi has the same collar.

I was thinking it would have been cool for one of Aang's kids to marry a kid of Zuko's, but obviously we didn't have much of a basis besides a "red and gold collar." Interestingly, Tenzin would be this new Iroh's uncle. Deja vu...

I need the scene where

Meelo is screaming in slowmotion or him fighting. what a little badass

as a GIF.

Also I haven't posted anything because I've been out the whole day and only got back to my grandma's right now. Very badass episode, nonstop action and honestly Tenzin continues to prove he is the most badass airbender ever. After Meelo of course.

The ending shocker was sad but I feel like it could have been way more dramatic. Their loss.

Also

I can't be the only one who laughed when the manly looking general spoke with the exact same voice as Zuko.

Yeah, that amused me too, they should have

had the voice actor make his voice deeper, so it would still sound like Zuko, just not exactly like Zuko. That is not an adult's voice.

Some guy already beat me to most of the GIF worthy scenes, though I still have a few ideas left. The benefit of getting your episodes on iTunes, I guess. Like Mister Jack, I'm waiting for the disc collection. I doubt it'll be Blu-ray though, given that animated "kid's shows" are on DVD because parents can't (most of the time) justify buying Blu-ray for a cartoon.

Dammit that VA at the end was terrrrible.

Also I was reading your spoilers before I managed to get around to watching the show (Both MPC n VLC pooped out on me, so had to copy across to use on PS3) and

I was expecting much worse with Lin

Also don't watch near end of LoK episode with two kids just starting on TLA "Who is that" That's the little boys son" "But he's really old, is he the boy grown up?" "no, he's his son". "Who is that?" "That's Tophs daughter but she's not in yet" "Is that a polar bear?" ""No it's a polar bear dog" "Hah that's the flying thing" "No, that's a different one" "Just shut the fuck up kay?"

The fight with the kids was pretty neat, and Tenzin is miracoulsy much stronger than he was shown to be before(when initially easily defeated by the mechas n equalists). Even stronger than his avatar father I'd say. If they were to fight I'd think Aang would have to go into Avatar state for a leg up. Which Korra still hasn't done btw.

Well, about the voice...

There's two sides to it.

1. A sort of generational-heritage element, given that this new General Iroh is most likely Zuko's grandson. It's neat if anything.

2. The more obvious, which did put my off as well, is how "age" inappropriate it is. My guess is General Iroh must be in his 20's, but he has the voice of a teenager. I don't just mean Zuko, but the voice actor has used this voice for other teen characters. So yeah, a grown-up with a well-known puberty voice.

Just had to make it deeper, but... eh, okay.

I guess it makes it somewhat obvious who it is (relationship wise), but yeah pretty weaksauce on the VA for not attempting anything different, n screw director for not asking for anything different. Thing is they did it fine with Team Avatar MKII in last episode.

Yeah, that's part of what made it so weird: the adult voices of the actual TLA characters were just fine, so why was this one so crappy, given that it wasn't even the same person?
