Breaking Bad

Probably the best show I ever watched. Seriously. No hyperbole.

It's a bit of a slow burner, though. But the more you watch, the more you need to watch.

And the payoff is pretty much always worth it.

In my opinion it just gets better every single season. I can't wait for season 4!

Alright, the simple fact that this thread was dead last at the very bottom of this section tells me that nowhere near enough of you guys are watching this show! I am very disappoint.

It's the best thing you'll ever watch, so get to it!

For those of you who know what I'm talking about, have a nice season 4 trailer :tophat:

I can't embed it here, so you'll have to watch it on AICN http://www.aintitcool.com/node/49844

I watched the first three or so episodes of the show and loved it, but for reasons I can't recall I never continued watching it (nothing to do with the quality of the show, or indeed anything about the show). I'm reluctant to get back into it a week before an exam that I haven't started revising for, so it'll have to go on the waiting list. The long, long waiting list.

The best show that has ever aired on television.

I am convinced of this. Watch it. Watchitwatchitwatchit.

It's unbelievable that this show is on television. Look at all the other homogenized camp that's considered good 'for TV'.

Breaking Bad is on another level. It's not just quality entertainment, it's high art. It's a show that needs to be studied.

The episodes I recommend you savor most (my favorites) are:

"Over"

and

"Fly"

Continually update this thread with your thoughts, new viewers. I'm eager to see you lose your shit over its pure unadulterated greatness.

Hahahaha, true. It would be pretty amusing to see someone's thoughts evolve over the duration of their viewing of the show.

I can easily imagine the posts getting less and less literate with every season as the levels of craziness increase.

Fly was pretty good, especially for a bottle episode.

But my favorites by far were "One Minute" and "Half Measure", if only for their last few minutes.

Walter is a great character, but from the beginning of the show it was the intention of the creator to give us a modern Scarface character and that's exactly where Walter is going. Jesse on the other hand is the complete contrast. And Todd... well Todd....

Also Mister Jack I was waiting for my friends to catch up until episode 4 so we could watch the rest together, but they passed me yesterday so now I watched them by myself. Mid-season finale I'll watch with them though.

Pretty fucking much. Like many fans I found myself justifying how he had planned or had to do all of his horrible choices for the good of the family.

But this episode was the turning point. His original goal was to get less than 1 million and had a chance to do so. He has become a money grubbing whore. Any chance of letting a woman choke on her own barf or poisoning a kid being for the greater good have gone downhill. His character is still awesome, but any innocence and anti-hero qualities have been replaced by a badass antagonist. Which isn't a bad thing since Jesse has become the anti-hero now, and Todd will obviously go crazy at some point

Yeah, at this point, Jesse is the one character who I want to see come out alive and well, really. Walter can burn in hell, I stopped being able to justify what he was doing by the end of season 4, and he's only gotten worse since then.

I'm also attached to Walter in a really weird way. I mean he is completely deplorable, but it's weird seeing the "good guy" from the beginning who everyone was rooting for (still up for debate but he was certainly a far margin nicer than he is now) to complete and utter evil. I still root for him despite him clearly being the bad guy now.

What Mike said before Walter shot him was absolutely right, it is Walt's ego and hubris that have gotten them all in the situations in which they find themselves in. Things are going to get worse before they get better, and I doubt they even will get better. It's all downhill from here.

So how does everyone feel about Skylar? On the one hand, she can be an incredibly annoying character, if only because she serves as an obstacle to Walter being able to do whatever the hell he wants, but then I guess she's the one rational character in Walter's life at the moment, for the most part. I mean, Hank and Marie aren't around all that often, the kids are with them, and Skylar is the one who's against all this, even if her brief foray into the criminal goings-on in season 4 did imply she was coming around to the whole thing.

I've seen a lot of people rationalise her behaviour on r/breakingbad, for example. I do feel bad for her in a way, but again, I'm still rooting for Walt and she definitely seems like she's going to be a problem in the near future...

Skyler sucks. It's bad enough that she's a wet blanket, but she's also a hypocrite. The turnaround time from "I want in" to "This is bad and you are bad" is just remarkable with her. If she hadn't gotten personally involved with the business then I might say she at least has a moral high ground to stand on, but no. She did it. She INSISTED on doing it and after she started doing it she suddenly decides it's wrong. Don't get yourself involved in the drug trade if you aren't prepared for what that really entails. And god, the way she just sits there judging Jesse and Walt, glaring constantly. Yes, Walt is a bad guy and all, but lest we forget Ted is probably paralyzed now because of Skyler's brilliant idea to send goons to his house. Walt didn't do that. That's all on her. She is in no position to judge others. She may not have directly killed anyone yet, but she still contributes to the city's meth problem by laundering Walter's money, a thing she VOLUNTEERED to do, which makes her indirectly responsible for all kinds of heinous shit.

tl;dr version: Get over yourself, Skyler. You're no saint.

On an unrelated note, I would also like Saul to survive to the end. Sure, he's not a "good" guy, but he isn't irredeemably evil and he's definitely entertaining. Bob Odenkirk was saying he would try to pursue a spin-off show if Saul survives, which I would want to see.
