Breaking Bad

@Vecha. Nothing you said makes it a plot hole. You probably think a game being unpopular is the same as it being underrated, too.

Look if you don't want to discuss go hang out with those who vehemently defend Prometheus and Inception with insults of pseudo-intelligence while thinking they are hip.

There is a difference between omission of information of an unanswered question and that said information having grave importance to the character(s) and the overall plot. Some may call it a "minor" plothole, but a plothole nonetheless.

The Grey Matter issue was brought up several times, and kept making the audience believe that it was one of the MAIN reasons for his madness.

If I was saying, "Walt let Jesse go! Did he know he was a slave? PLOTHOLE" then I'd be wrong. THAT is not a Plothole.

(And for the record. I love this show. Enjoyed Prometheus and Inception...but I also can acknowledge faults).

I'm simply pointing out that omission of information and a plothole are two different things. You're using one word to describe something else. A plothole would be if the grey matter stuff was revealed but then Walt acted completely different than how he should have based on the events or if it was forgotten about.

The importance of Gray Matter to Walt's character isn't in the details of what happened, but the fact that he helped found it, then left it voluntarily, and then it took off, making the Schwartzes rich while he languished as a high school chemistry teacher.

I admit that I would have liked to know exactly why he left Gray Matter, but I don't think the details are all that important to the arc of his development in the show. I also think there's something to be said for leaving it to the audience to fill in. Indeed, Breaking Bad did a wonderful job of establishing Walt's character and his motives; there are likely enough clues that folks can figure out the important aspects of why he left Gray Matter.

I'll respect that.

Though, people said the same about The Sopranos ending. The whole "let the audience" infer.

The whole thing is muddled. Especially when Walt told Jesse he was forced out for $5,000 dollars.

I'd like to think that Heisenberg was born those many years ago. Something big. Manipulation on his part that backfired...or he himself was manipulated. That intelligent, manipulative, egotistical monster was born back then imho.

But whatever. Nothing is perfect and if this is all I, and a few minority of others, can make a big stink about then it ain't all bad.

Well, just watched it. Jesus christ, that was good. It was kind of a relaxed finale. Nowhere near as chaotic as the season 4 finale, and it was perfect.

Also, am I the only one who couldn't care less about the Grey Matter stuff? I'm pretty sure all the necessary info was given very early on, like season 2 early or something. I never really thought of it as a major mystery of the show. He was a founder and he left before it took off. I'm actually kinda surprised to be reminded that the reason he left has never been clearly given because I was under the impression that it had been. A plothole? Lol, please.

I really don't think it was ever intended for there to be anything to it, honestly. If anything, it was probably meant as backstory that added psychological depth for Walt. Anyone would feel entitled to their piece of that kind of success and it really fits with how he never seemed satisfied no matter how much money he made. You can feel that attitude throughout the series, even down to the intonation of his voice when he says "I earned it."

Oh and I was spot on about who the ricin was for. Not sure if I'd mentioned it here, though.

Well, no. It wasn't "clearly" given. And many fans don't seem to want to talk about it, or don't care, and will get defensive about in on the interwebs. So, you aren't the "only one" you are of the majority. Quite a few got pissy over the "review" I linked to(Not you or others on here...I'm talking on Facebook...etc.)

And here I go again with more rambling about that plot-hole/unexplained-events/wtfeveranyonewantstocalliti'mdonewithsemantics

All that has been said is that A.)He left before it took off B.) According to Walt, they "forced" him out of his $5,000 dollars shares(He brings it up in the first...and then later tells Jesse this too in the third I believe) C.)Gretchen shows guilt...of something in the first season. All leads to probably a love triangle...but It was also hinted at that Walt was dating Skylar back then to.

It was constantly hinted at throughout the series. Every fucking season. So, it was of import to Walt. Like you said...it is even "heard" in his tone. "I. Earned. It."

And again when he tells Jesse,"I'm not in the meth business. I'm not in the money business. I'm in the Empire business."

Either it was a love triangle(square?) cliche. Or just Walt not wanting to think longterm when it came to his family(maybe he needed the 5K for Walt jr.?)

So...what the fuck ever. It's done. It was a fantastic show and while I have a stick in my ass over this detail...it could have a hell of a lot worse. Have to say it's in the top 5 best shows I've seen in my short lived life so far. Possibly edging out The Sopranos(for me personally. I'm sure others would call my a moron for ranking it as number 1...what with it's lackluster last season(s)).

I'm just so fucking thankful they ended it when it needed to end. Not because it was starting to get bad, but it would have probably started to stink if they extended it another season.

I also thought the theory about the ricin in the stivia was a great prediction. Not sure if I read it from you...or someone. But yeah.

So, I'm a third of the way through season 5 now and...

I'm trying to think back to when I actually stopped caring/rooting for Walter. I mean, Jesse has his ups and downs, but even before he 'snapped' Walter's petulance and egotism was too much. Not that it makes me like the show less obviously, because that sort of character is always fun to watch (Falling Down is one of my favourite films). I don't think it was actually after the end of S2, because trying to lay guilt on Walter for the larger sequence of events felt too much of a stretch (though him getting the school's cleaner screwed over in S1 was a bummer). Must have been sometime after the death of Gale perhaps.

Besides some of the stretched-out elements, there are a few things that irk me. The film references are about as subtle as a brick to the face, and some of the dialogue/plotting is just...ugh. Most notably, Hank's line about Fring's laptop being encrypted so they never would've gotten anything off it anyway...but since the magnet (yeah, bitch!) 'heist' that gave them new leads! Or when Mike criticises Lydia over 'whacking' guys because she probably saw it in a film...to then go and use a one-hundred-percent efficient silencer a few scenes later. :P

There are also occasions like Walt being allowed to speak to Jesse (and plan with him) in his home, despite Tyrone always watching him and Gus being extra careful. Or how Walt even knew about, let alone poisioned Brock. Or Mike not getting Jesse to watch Walter, instead using a plastic tie to attach him to a radiator. I'm not even sure Mike knew about the methylamine situation before he decided to spare Lydia either.

Anyway, the show is still great but I think we must be heading for a Scarface ending to some extent.
