These sound promising.

The world changes as time passes, so a field where a battle happened in one year may just be a series of empty encampments a few months later.

The entire world will change with seasons, so the cities and the wilderness will all exist in both Summer and Winter settings.

In the winter, soldiers will move slowly and stumble about in the snow, and lakes and rivers will freeze over allowing you new terrain to work with. This gives Connor an extra advantage since he can still use the trees and wilderness pretty effectively during this time of year.

Didn't know Mr. Molyneux works for Ubisoft.

Overall, sounds good.

They said they're reworking the moment-to-moment gameplay mechanics from the ground up, so hopefully that'll change a lot, and stop it being 'press X to win'.

Which is something I've wanted since AC1.

I will be so pissed if they change the moment-to-moment gameplay. I think it's enough that there are a couple enemy types that are uncounterable.

I really disagree. While the gameplay is strong from a cinematic perspective, looking at challenge and emergent fun, it's really flat. Everything's basically completely scripted (and feels like it when you think about it), combat is painfully repetitive by the end, the climbing, while cool, is basically a cutscene. 'Press X to awesome'. In combat, those two enemy types are counterable, you just need to have the right weapon in hand. Nothing in the game is uncounterable, except armoured guards strong attack, which comes along once every few hours, and is easy to dodge.

However, I did really really like the control scheme in terms of it's structure: the whole 'Y is head, X is sword-hand, B is grab-hand, A is feet' thing. I just feel that the whole series would have benefited massively from a Stamina bar, at least for climbing/running. That would have added a lot of tension and more strategy. If you couldn't just run in a straight line forever, or climb/ hold on forever, you would have actually thought about avoiding/evading your hunters, not just running away from them. See I Am Alive, or Shadow of the Colossus' climbing system for reference.

This is about that Mass Effect 2 steelbook isn't it? and yeah I can understand.

Hehe. I was not a fan of them since the Halo 3 issue and then, later, with Uncharted 2 but, yeah, that was the biggest frustration. On the plus side, EA Download Manager came through for me, and the game was automatically added to Origin. Don't actually need to run Origin to play, either.

I'm really curious to see how the free running in the trees will work. Can you climb any tree? When you get up there, are their specific paths you have to follow?

I can imagine that'd be the case, but with this grass-roots reworking of the gameplay mechanics and control scheme, who the fuck knows! It could be a lot more restricted and challenging, or they might stay with the 'hold Rt and A to free-run' thing. Who knows!

I liked the trailer a lot. Ive always wanted a game where you could traverse through tree branches and stuff. Thats one of the many reasons I resent MGS3 so much. People love it to shit and say its the best MGS game, but its so full of fucking gimmicks(eating, healing, curing, catching animals, etc). Climbing trees being one of them. Theres only a handful of trees in the game and its super easy for enemies to see you up there. You even have the ability to hang off a tree with one hand and shoot your gun with the other, but its super easy or enemies to see you. Its pointless. Ugh.

All those "gimmick"s you listed, though, are basically one gimmick that you can completely ignore if you want? There were plenty of other great additions to the gameplay that totally justified that one thing. Camouflage, CQC, no Soliton, far better AI, more varied environments... Also, IRL, it's not very easy/ impossible to climb and use trees like that, not that MGS3 is the epitome of realism :P

On harder difficulties especially, I adored the stamina/health system, where you often actually had to eat to keep your stamina up. I actually wish there was a mode that meant you had to eat every couple of hours in-game or you'd die of starvation.

On topic: one word defines my disappointment with the trailer: pre-rendered. In terms of how the actual game sounds, though, I'm very hyped.

Confirmed for Wii U. I'll be picking up the console at launch, so I'll hold off on whether I'll play it on Wii U or PS3. If it offers a graphical boost on Wii U, it'll be worth it, but if the Wii U has a real strong launch, it might just be best to get it on PS3. Time will tell.

Yeah, same. While I guess they might not have anything they'd be prepared to show, or they're just following the rigmarole of teaser, countdown, CGI trailer, etc., I find it hard to get excited about a CGI trailer.

...and it didn't even have any dub-step. :P

I'm gonna assume people like Maritan are disappointed that Ubisoft did what was expected and made the Americans the overall good guys.

What the fuck did you expect honesrtly? Sorry to tell you but when the US is such a big market for video games, like freaking 50% or so. And sorry to say but unless you're british, taxation without representation was a pretty dick thing to do.

Such a stupid stance to take though. "US is big market, thus let's give them a reach around all the time. Fuck ever making them the bad guys". It's also extremely clichéd. Then again could go with the AC ending and dun-dun-dun turns out Washington is a bad guy n you've been killing British Assassins all along.

Could have been Japan. Could have had ninjas. Instead it became another America Fuck Yeah! game and it's a rather dull plotline for everyone else that isn't raised in a stars n stripes nappy*. Especially for a series that up until now had taken us to some somewhat under represented locales in gaming. Even with the cliché american setting could have gone for a straight up native, then you're on neither side and it makes for a much more flexible and interesting plotline.

Basically, the gamepaly better be fucking good.

@Cowboy Poet & Ethan: There is a Wii U thread....

edit: in fact....

It's still entirely possible that you aren't really on either side, and they're just playing up the American Revolution angle in the advertising. But I agree, it would be a lot more interesting to have you not really be on either side.

Yeah, I mean, they don't shy away from controversy that much. You killed

the freaking pope already.

Oh? A British man who has made it explicitly clear how he hates America and Britain is awesome is... disliking this?

And no it's not a stupid stance. I would've preferred another unexplored european locale for sure, but please another america fuck yeah title? And give me a fucking break about stupid arguments when every European finds the need to use the phrase "America Fuck Yeah". 99% of the America Fuck Yeah titles are military first person shooters and NONE have explored such a rich period in history such as this. I'm hispanic. I used to hate America as much as any other country when I lived there.

But guess what? I moved here. And it's fucking awesome. Oil motherfucker. OIL.
