Johnny
Buy from a non-participating retailer; I'm sure you can find one.
TheMightyEthan
Not within anything approaching convenient distance. My options are basically Amazon and Walmart, and since my Walmart doesn't stock almost any PC games that leaves me with Amazon. If I wanted to make a 6-hour round trip to Kansas City I might be able to find one I guess...
Johnny
Weird. I'm not sure how ordering stuff online is in the US, but in Sweden I could find 20-30 web-based shops that are not participating in this, willing to send me the game so that I have it on release day. Hot Heart
Isn't it...'set aside content to split across various retailers'? Edited August 11, 2012 by Hot Heart

HOW DARE THEY  Wow, missing the point entirely...  The point is that there's different shit at each retailer, meaning there's no way to get the entire game without either buying it 15 times or pirating it. And that practice pisses me off. Edited August 12, 2012 by TheMightyEthan

And that practice pisses me off.  Yeah, but an argument could be made that you do, in fact, get an entire game regardless of where you pre-order. And the different shit each retailer offers is merely extraneous crap that adds little to nothing to the experience.  And don't get me wrong, I agree that this practice needs to die. But I really don't buy into the notion that not getting a special piece of armor, weapon or even a self-contained mission makes the base game incomplete in any way whatsoever. They're not "missing pieces" of the cake, they're more like shit flakes sprinkled on top.

And that practice pisses me off. Â I can't blame people who take that as an open invitation to pirate the game. I am not going to do so myself, but I do feel like when you make piracy the "best" option for the consumer, you're kind of asking for it. Hot Heart
The problem with the DLC stuff comes from its inception though. As in, the developer has already decided that it will not be part of the base game and so is ultimately inconsequential. Not setting it aside could've made for a better, more uniform experience. Â Though, the Da Vinci Disappearance seemed far better designed than nearly all the side stuff in the core version of Brotherhood...

That one wasn't a pre-order bonus, though. It came out months after the game.

They're not "missing pieces" of the cake, they're more like shit flakes sprinkled on top.  Right. Again, it's the principle that pisses me off; the fact that they're fragmenting the game. And as I've said a couple of times, it's not the bits of armor or weapons that really bothers me, it's when they do entire quest chains like this. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, usually this kind of thing is like "We've all worked really hard on this and are really proud of what we've been able to do, and we can't wait to get it out there. We hope everyone else likes it as much as we do." whereas this one's all "Yeah, we basically made the greatest game of all time. Don't expect it to ever be topped. It's all down hill from here." Â @Dee: I know! But don't worry, I'll show them soon enough...
