Mr. GOH!
Uh, if you disliked Origins, then you probably won't like Inquisition. The hype is for those of us who are fans of the franchise.
TheMightyEthan
It sounds like you feel the same way about DA:I that I feel about the Witcher 3.
deanb
Though with Witcher the second one improved on the gameplay Also surely with Origins it's worth giving a bit more than 2hrs. At 2hrs in you're barely past the namesake "Origins" part of the game?
TheMightyEthan
I put ~12 hours into the Witcher and ~4 hours into the Witcher 2 before losing interest.
Mr. GOH!
Yeah, 2 hrs with Origins is really not much time at all, so I assumed Kenshi did not like anything about the gameplay or world.
Thursday Next
I'm concerned at the idea of wasting more than two hours to decide if I like a game or not. Most films would be over by then. Still better than FFXIII's "it's good after the 30 hour tutorial is finished".
deanb
For many games that would be true, but it's a 50hr RPG. On a relative scale you're not very far in to be playing with the mechanics and seeing where the storyline is going. 2hrs to decide you dislike something like flappy bird would be insane, and similar like going off on a film if you don't like it just a couple minutes in and go "nope, this isn't for me" (that's the length of a trailer, even a teaser trailer) I guess each to their own on how the value their time, but you know going into it how long a game it is compared to others (and even if you don't there's tools out their: http://www.howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=2760). If 2hrs is a lot of time, then starting a 50hr long RPG ain't your best game to be starting in first place.
Mr. GOH!
So, apparently EA will release a free text adventure game that bridges DA 2 and Inquisition. Playable via Origin once you complete the dragon age keep world setup web utility thing. The keep is what will be used in Inquisition and other DA games to keep track of your choices going forward. Warning: the keep was originally supposed to sync to your saved games from DAO and DA2. That is no longer the case; you have to go back and re-choose every choice. You can import the look and name of a saved hawke and warden, which is nice. It took me a while, but I recreated my favorite DA:O and DA2 playthroughs. The utility then stitches together a flash movie recapping the narrative your choices makes, narrated by Varric. It's kinda cool. deanb
https://dragonagekeep.com/en_US/ - And Dragon Age Keep for anyone eyeing that up. I'd heard about it but not had opportunity to dig about for it.
TheMightyEthan
It takes time, but between that and Dragon Age Wiki I think I was able to recreate my playthroughs. Or rather, an idealized version of them.
deanb
Yeah I had to open the wiki a few times. Had a minor issue when it told me I couldn't have Alistair as king and be alive, and realise there's another Choice to change in the Keep thing for that version of events to happen. Initially I was like "shit, I swear I had him as a King and survived cos I banged Morrigan".
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, if you want that you have to have Loghain in the Wardens or make an Old God baby with Morrigan. I had Loghain do it to redeem himself.
deanb
I'd made God Baby. Once I fished through the choices in the Keep site to change that, it let me have myself survive and Alistair as king.
Mister Jack
Welp, I just got done with the keep. For the most part I'm pretty sure I set everything to the way I did it with my second playthrough of DA:O, although I did fudge the answers for the choices related to DLC I never ended up buying. Still, I'm ready now. Bring on the inquisition!
Waldorf and Statler
yeah I did my keep when it opened up a couple of days ago. I even changed the name of the world state to make sure it's mine whenever the game comes out.
Mister Jack
I can't wait to buy the game on launch day and then get home and spend hours trying to import my Keep data because all the servers are overloaded. It'll be great!

deanb
EA Use Animal Slave Labour For Fantasy GameToday PETA released a statement brandishing Electronic Arts server system as "cruel and inhumane". Gamers however applause the move, preferring the new system to that used by SimCity which used llamas. Morrigan +5, Leliana -2

Waldorf and Statler
I'm not playing other things on it currently. Maybe when ACU is out. But the issue is that I always put my PS4 in rest mode, it's an instinct and I know I'd fuck it up if I turn it on again.
TheMightyEthan
Well they're rolling out 2.01 today. http://www.joystiq.com/2014/11/05/ps4-2-01-firmware-rolling-out-aims-to-fix-rest-mode-issues/
SomTervo
It was at a friend's house while they were busy, so my time was limited anyway. My opinion might have been formed from bad context rather than bad experience. But yeah, nothing about it grabbed me and the combat seemed like more effort than it was worth in fun. I guess I was mainly wondering if gameplay had been improved subsequently (and how) and how good the story is. Enough people like it to suggest the story must be pretty excellent. I probably had to just get through the exposition. I bet it'll be one of those series I finally come to in two years and go 'holy shit what have I been missing'. The Witcher 2 didn't really get me until 5 hours in, but I had a sense the gameplay would get deeper and deeper (which it did). I didn't get that vibe off DA:O. It seemed like they laid all the mechanics out at the very beginning and the mechanics were wanting. Probably all about the story- I should def give it another shot. Mr. GOH!
So, what sort of character are you all gonna roll? I'm thinking female qunari mage or female elf dual wield rogue.
TheMightyEthan
I'm boring and like to tank, so usually my first character is male human warrior. I've been thinking of going female human warrior this time though, mix things up a little.
