Dragon Age: Inquisition

Recommended Posts

You can flirt with anyone, I think, but the non-romanceable will shoot you down.

Straight male Wardens only had two options, too.

I think you can still pursue other options unless you totally shot them down.

Has Cassandra reacted favorably to your female Inquisitor's flirting or something? I know she seems butch, but she likes dudes.

Edit:

Only female elves can romance Solas because he's a racist.

She seemed to have reacted favorably, though reservedly, which didn't seem weird given her personality.  Flattered/embarrassed is how it came across to me.

*Edit* - Sigh, guess I'll have to go to my third choice, Josephine (Dorian being my second choice but goddamn he's not bi either).

All of them.

*Edit* - Cullen's boring, Sera's irritating (as a partner), Blackwell's boring, and Iron Bull is off-putting (Qunari are too dissimilar to humans).  That leaves Josephine.

Qunari can breed with humans and dwarves and elves. They can even have babies with with them! Of course, all inter-fantasy-racial unions result in human babies, which suggests that qunari, dwarves, and elves are just humans modified by magic.

Bottom line, though: your Inquisitor is a racist.

So forgot to say this but I beat the game. Thoughts:

- Main story was extremely underwhelming. After the exciting end to Act I I was looking forward to the story, it was extremely disappointing

- Armor selection is a joke. It's a variation of like 2-3 armor types for the majority of the game. And if you're a qunari you don't get cool looking armor ever, because the "X only" outfits are made for every other race besides Qunari.

- Sidequests got tedious after a while when I was high enough level. They were basically fetch quests, and rewards for loot were shit when I could make something WAY better in Skyhold.

- AI fight with dragons was stressful lol. HEY RANGED DUDE. DON'T STAND RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DRAGON

-Knight Enchanter was so OP it made the fights less exciting but it's too useful to not use.

That's it for the negatives though. Over-all I spent like 80 hours playing and by the time I was done with the main story I had 2 areas left to explore and like 5 dragons to kill. Don't really feel like doing them though.

I give the game an 8.5/10. Hopefully for the next game they focus less on 'look at everything we have' and put more effort on polishing the story. It's always extremes with Bioware haha

So I wanna ask someone here, because I don't want to get spoiled by any detail, but there's one thing I'd like to know. Can be answered by a simple yes or no.

So we all know how the main protagonist in DA 1 was mentioned in DA 2. Will I see what happened to Hawke after DA2 in Inquisition? I've come to like my Hawke when I played it.

I have many mixed feelings with Dragon Age. The story is just beyond disappointing. Loved the first as everyone says. I suspect they'll improve on that.

And while I hope they fix the filler-quests....I hope they don't entirely take away the small sandboxes. I loved them the most I think.

Also loved and hated the tactical camera at the same time. Would screw up all the damn time.

One instance I switched to a character it transported me to him....who for some reason stayed a long ass way across the map....I went back to the fight I was in...and even though the character was RIGHT there...I ended back at the other end of the map. After the second time it happened I decided to do the sane thing and restart the game. Fixed...but it happened at other areas as well. Figured that maybe it was the horse screwing up with character placement(since the disappear and reappear...I guess). Stopped using the damn thing...and never happened against. Not exactly causation. And not sure if it was fixed in a patch.

I also have a screenshot of a human/dwarf...

This is what they become when they mate.

This was on my wife's character. She is part of the PC master race and I'm a lowly console peasant who is ordered to constantly build the hardware for the upper class. Woe is me.

And a few minor things kind of muck the game up a bit....but hell, 90% of games do that. I'd give it an above average score. Insert what ever number you want here ____________________.

So people are hailing Inquisition as game of the year? Pardon me if I seem suspicious at first. I'm looking to buy it in the near future, but first I'd like to know what do you guys think. For starters, let me tell you where I'm coming from.

Up until this point the series was a rather mixed bag for me. The only thing I really loved about it were the characters with which I could spend hours conversing. The rest was solid, but rather meh. Combat - boring, especially in the first one. I always hated the D&D style combat, as the rules are bloated, convoluted mess and I could never wrap my head around them. Which is funny, because the combat animations are very basic and simple. Talk about contradiction. I also don't know where all the praise for the story is coming from. Origins had probably the most generic fantasy role-playing story I've ever seen. DA2 was a a lot better in the story departament, but that game had about 5 hours worth of material stretched out to a 30 hour game. All in all, DA2 was more like an intermission between the first game and a proper sequel but I guess I liked it better than the first one.

Nevertheless, I remeber both games were praised on their release, so before I jump into the third one (my save games are ready) I'd like to know if it's any different. What can I expect? Is the story any better than Origins? How does it tie in with two previous installments? Is the combat more engaging? I heard its more action oriented, so can I really expect something less convoluted or repetitive?

As someone who is entirely impartial... Dragon Age™: Inquisition is absolutely game of the year material. It has all those things you liked about the other games and none of the things you didn't like. It also may or may not have the things you were not sure about.

Go buy many many many copies.

Thank you.

Was DA2 well received at launch?  I thought it was generally agreed to be a disappointment after Origins.

Regardless, Inquisition is fantastic.  Quite possibly my favorite RPG of all time.  I spent 120 hours on my playthrough and was still sad when it ended.

Thank you, Mr. Thursday Next. Your reply was very helpful. Unless someone thinks the opposite. In that case it wasn't.

I meant like a critical reception. Though I never really take that for granted, so yeah, you're probably right.

Haven't finished the game, but I'm about 40 hours in. Just some brief thoughts as a response:

  • I found combat to be bothersome for melee due to positioning and combat movement being a pain in the ass, but switching to ranged fixed that entirely. I just twang from afar. If someone gets to close . . . I run away.
  • Exploration has got to be the game's high point. While I wish it had more special encounters (at least in the few maps I've fully explored), the environments and map design are positively wonderful, especially for someone who most appreciates exploration in games like Dragon Age with open world or semi-open world areas.
  • The execution in writing is generally solid, but nothing really stands out to me.
  • The inventory interface could very well be worse than Skyrim's.
  • Gathering is a pain in the ass. Like fist-and-a-half pain.
  • Did I mention exploration?

Edit: I should clarify that while I enjoyed DA:O, I only played the demo fro DA2 and stopped there.
