FMW
I wouldn't be surprised if the bomber notebook was overhauled too. The basic idea of having all these side quest lines to be pursued that progress regardless of your presence based on the flow of time over the three days is super duper smart. It's great. But the menu in the game to help the player keep track of those side quests was lacking. So a more organized bomber notebook with a little bit more information to help players experience the quality side content in the game would help more people appreciate the game without changing anything that made it good.
TCP
I completely forgot about the bomber notebook, good call.
TheMightyEthan
Welp, no one's posted this yet, so I will:
TCP
Dammit Nintendo! You can't put the TV fullscreen and Miyamoto in the corner?
Mal
They're running it old school. To be honest, this might get me to buy a Wii U in the next holiday season where this game is bundled with the Wii U. I dunno why but I also want to play Captain Toad.
Saturnine Tenshi
I'm mostly happy I'm not seeing waggle.
TheFlyingGerbil
I prefer the waggle to the janky point to aim they were doing with the pad. At least with waggle pretty much any movement gets what you want. With the new system you seem to end up pointing at the ceiling or half way behind you before you get it where you want on the screen. The had that problem on the video where it wasn't moving enough on screen. It will help that epona auto avoids trees while you concentrate on shooting. Sounding a bit negative there but I actually am really looking forward to this as I love Zelda games even skyward sword
TheMightyEthan
Having used the exact same point-to-aim system in Wind Waker I didn't have a problem with it. The problem is he was moving the pad but keeping it at the same angle, and it's the angle that determines where you aim. Presumably he was doing this because he's old (or, to give him the benefit of the doubt, he was trying to keep the gamepad visible to that over-the-shoulder camera).

TheFlyingGerbil
I thought I got this video from here, so apologies if one of you posted it first, but it's not in this thread at any rate. I can't believe the amount of into they teased out of what i just thought was showing off the pretty graphics and big map. granted some of it is a stretch but a lot of it makes sense and nearly all of it is interesting. Either way it makes me more excited for the game just seeing the original clip did. My main question after it is: is there any part of the timeline you would like it to take place in or any game you would like it to be a sequel to or any part of the series' lore you would like it to cover (e.g. the big battle they created the triforce after) maybe it's links job to hide the triforce parts instead of collecting them for a change?
Normo
Yeah, Zelda U looks like it could be a pretty cool game. Hopefully it will have more of an emphasis on the overworld this time around, because that's what I've always really enjoyed about Zelda. At the same time though, the huge overworld is worrying. I have no idea how they would make a world that big consistently interesting, and with enough good content spread throughout it. And the fact that they're showing the game on a screen 10 feet away from the camera gives off the impression that it's not very polished yet, which is scary considering it's coming out this year. TheMightyEthan
Graphical polish is typically the very last step in game development, so I don't think there's anything to worry about just yet.
TCP
I'd have to imagine Nintendo would pull all of it's resources into getting this game out this year. But yeah, the emphasis on the open world is good news, that was always my favourite parts to Zelda games as well.... That's part of the reason why I didn't like Skyward Sword. TheFlyingGerbil
I've just been looking on the what's new section for Majora's Mask. Cowboy and My lord, Chocula, you should both be happy. Keep track of all your quests in the revamped Bombers’ Notebook – you can even set up alarms so you don’t forget about any special events, and see where the action is on your map with a quick tap of the Touch Screen! Time waits for no man, but it’s easier to stay on time than ever with this handy tome! Thanks to owl statues and quill statues found throughout Termina, you can now save your adventure at any time. But be warned: returning to the dawn of the first day no longer automatically saves your progress. That addressed your two major issues, I believe. Alex Heat
So far, the most hilarious thing is watching all the typical rubes come out of the woodwork screaming about how Zelda doesn't need to change, Link doesn't need to talk and so on and so forth. TCP
I am pro keeping Link silent in the games (but also pro voice acting for all the NPCs). But in a Zelda TV series I'd be interested in seeing how they handle Link.
TheMightyEthan
I am definitely pro silent Link. Just because you can do something from a technical perspective doesn't mean you should, and I think it would lose something if Link spoke. Other NPCs sure. Mr. GOH!
My favorite part about Netflix Zelda is that it will clearly target 10 year olds but be vociferously defended by adult Ninty diehards as worthwhile. Zelda is the dungeons and puzzles. A Zelda series will be either bad or only tangentially related to the games.
TheFlyingGerbil
It doesn't necessarily have to follow the plot of the games, but there's no reason that's not possible either, you don't really need that much plot to make an enjoyable program. I would prefer it for example if they emphasised Zelda being a strong character or included her as sheik would be cool. There's actually quite a lot of scope when you think about it. I don't know if you get it in USA, but if they made it like the BBC Merlin series that would be enjoyable enough - I thought that struck a good balance between light hearted, action and drama and managed to appeal to a decent age range on different levels. I think the problem would arise if they tried to take it too seriously, which is why the comparison to game of thrones is alarming, though I'm guessing/hoping that's marketing department PR bull. Edit: having said all that, it's not something I've ever wanted to see, but Netflix has a good track record for original drama so there's no reason not to be positive either. Assuming it actually happens, it sounds very early stages/rumour. Edited February 7, 2015 by TheFlyingGerbil
CorgiShinobi
Cautiously optimistic, though I never thought I'd see anything like a series because, as I've said before, Nintendo has been paranoid about their IPs for decades. Though I guess given "the times," Nintendo is becoming more open to different venues. Back in 2007 an animated pitch for a computer animated Zelda series was produced by the studio behind the computer animated TMNT film of the same year. Nintendo turned it down and I suspect that it was never in their interest to ever have a series. Having one now and it being a live action take on The Legend of Zelda leaves me only hoping they take an indirect approach if this goes through.
