Yeah, Zelda was only ever going to be released when it was done and i certainly appreciate the level of polish that Nintendo applies to its games and i know that takes time. I guess it just feels slightly like torture to me as Zelda is really the only game I look forward to with anything approaching genuine anticipation but from what he says in the video it's like they only just started working on it seriously. Seems like they literally spend years just discussing ideas, like the idea of an open world was only recently nailed down even though they must have been working on this since 2011.

Even if they didn't show anything, this has got to be a relief:-

Miyamo: "We're here to talk about Star Fox but Zelda is still coming to Wii U, so don't worry about that." so it's at least not an NX exclusive

Aonuma: "In a game, it's when you get stuck, when you want that help. And I kinda frontloaded all that in Skyward Sword, and it doesn't really help to get that information when you don't know what to do with it. So that was a real learning experience for me. So I'm going to be careful not to do that."

The extra long tutorials at the start of the game. Though just going back now and trying to find the rest of the quote it's actually from last year, as in a different article it references how link between worlds is less tutorial heavy as a result. Still, it's good news, if not exactly new news.

It doesn't mention fi, though if he is taking on board constructive criticism there was certainly plenty of it about her and thinking back back didn't they completely remove a companion from link between worlds? that may be too far in the other direction. I'm hoping for either a proper character like midna (unlikely from the trailers we've seen so far) or just anavi style dot that floats over to interesting things that may be easier to miss in the open world style.

Twilight Princess HD is not releasing until March 2016. They did reiterate Zelda Wii U is a 2016 Wii U title but That surely means it won't come out until the end of the year so that is an entire year delay for the game. It's not so much the wait that bothers me but it does make me worry there serious problems with it or that it's not nearly as far along in development as they want us to think. I know they're not previously showed much info about home console zelda games before launch but I'd love to see something so I know they've made more than just a big empty field so far.

I think you're getting worried for no reason. Say what you will about Nintendo, their games are well-made.

That's why I think they could be struggling to make an open world a compelling "Nintendo" experience. Though I do think it's more likely just didn't appreciate how much work was needed on it. Whatever the reason for the delay though, I'm still confident I'll love it when it comes out.

I sincerely doubt the NX will release prior to fall 2017.  Gamecube was announced (as "Project Dolphin") in 1999, unveiled in 2000, released in fall 2001.  Wii was announced at E3 2004, unveiled at E3 2005, released in fall 2006.  Wii U was announced early in 2011, unveiled at E3 2011, released fall 2012.  NX was just announced this year, and following that pattern it would have been unveiled at E3 this year if it were going to be released next year, so far more likely it will be unveiled at E3 2016 and released fall 2017.

*Edit - That would also put 5 years between generations, which would be much more palatable to fans than a 4-year generation.

I will say that typically dev kits don't go out until the year before launch, so that does cut against my pattern of announce and release, but it's possible Nintendo has learned from its mistakes and is trying to get developer feedback on the still-developing specification.
