Waldorf and Statler
Sprites can work on the 3DS. IF they do it right. FEA's environments and fights were done in top down 3D, and the sprites didn't really look bad. It was charming even.
Saturnine Tenshi
Sprites would have been nice, yeah.
TheFlyingGerbil
A fan sent this in to Nintendo UK when wind waker came out in 2003. They've still got it 10 years later and just posted the photo on FB to inspire people to send photos of their Zelda crafts. It gives me warm fuzzies to think they kept it all this time (or at all, tbh).
Baconrath
I think Elzo (Ezlo?) from Minish Cap is one of the best sidekicks 'cause he's not super annoying or states the obvious and he lets you shrink/un-shrink to Minish size and back. Also he doubles as a hat. Navi, Fi and Zelda can't be hats.
Waldorf and Statler
Yeah but who REALLY wants a bird hat?
FMW
Like, everyone? You mean you don't?!?
CorgiShinobi
I think Elzo (Ezlo?) from Minish Cap is one of the best sidekicks 'cause he's not super annoying or states the obvious and he lets you shrink/un-shrink to Minish size and back. Also he doubles as a hat. Navi, Fi and Zelda can't be hats. I'm not an expert or anything, but I imagine Link could fit his head into one of them. EDIT: Maybe two if he was desperate enough. TCP
That picture confirms what we've long known: Majora's Mask has the coolest swords.
TheFlyingGerbil
I don't remember the name being mentioned before, but this was on Nintendo's own website. What do you think of it? It's only an oblique connection to the previous game, both being subtitled "a link..." no mention of a 2 or "to the past"
TheFlyingGerbil
Nothing really new in here, but it was interesting to read that the reason the boat was slow in the GC version was because otherwise you'd have got the the end of the loaded area before they could load the new area in. They can load the whole ocean in to the Wii U's memory at once so the speed now must be purely a design choice. They've also tweaked the triforce collection at the end of the game and there some cryptic bit linked to that about the ending being more satisfying instead of so abruptly. TCP
I wonder if that means they're adding in one or both of the dungeons that got cut at the last minute?
Saturnine Tenshi
@A Link Between Worlds: I just wish Nintendo would sit down and make a new Zelda game while thinking, "What would make this a great Zelda game?" Instead, it seems they're thinking, "How can we shove as many of our hardware's unique 'features' into a game at once and maybe make it a Zelda game after that?" I think that was my biggest issue with the DS and Wii games, and that doesn't look to be changing with the 3DS title. @WWHD: Looks nice. But just another HD re-release. TheMightyEthan
Tenshi, those are all new assets, not just the original ones uprezzed like most HD re-releases. This is more akin to Halo: Anniversary. I wonder if that means they're adding in one or both of the dungeons that got cut at the last minute? I so hope this is true. It would be awesome on its own, but would also help it not be perceived as just another HD re-release.
Saturnine Tenshi
Totally. But it's still the same game.
CorgiShinobi
No, I don't think anyone, even myself, quite understands the innovation at work here.
TheMightyEthan
Why is he dressed in red? I don't remember different tunics in WW.
TheFlyingGerbil
So you know it's a different player. If they were both in green the video would be a harrowing glimpse into the breakdown of Link's sanity.
TheMightyEthan
That would certainly make the feature more interesting.
TheFlyingGerbil
The dungeons won't be reinstated because they were reused in other Zelda games. Boo.

deanb
http://imgur.com/a/OTC9B Some comparison shots of the progress of the HD version of Wind Waker. Mainly that they've knocked back the bloom.
TheMightyEthan
And shrank the HUD. That's nice.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, definitely looks better than what you could even get with an emulator. An emulator can run it at higher res and with AA like the HD version, but it can't generate the higher quality assets. My only complaint is that in a few places where the new lighting engine is applied to characters (mainly the fire temple boss and dragon) it creates soft-edged shading that doesn't mesh with the otherwise cell-shaded look. I think the fire temple boss looked much cooler in the original version.
TheFlyingGerbil
WWHD only took 6 months to port. In Nintendo time that is the blink of an eye. Kind of sneaky how Nintendo made it seem like it took ages - probably an attempt to justify the price they're charging for it. £50 on the eShop, that's £10 more than Pikmin 3 at release :/ I just get so frustrated with them sometimes. They seem determined to squander any good will anybody may have left for them.
