You can now sign-up via Steam. It uses OpenID so don't be scared of it stealing all your info, you're signing into Steams own thingy. So you can click the Steam icon, then it'll take you to Steam, you sign in (if you're not already signed in) then it'll pop you back to the forum.

If you go to your profile settings you can also attach your steam account to your existing forum account just like you can with Twitter.

Also a .1 update should be coming soon (it's out just busy weekends n work n such) so I'll add on what changes that brings as n when I update.

Got Version 3.3.1 up and running.

Mobile chat

You can now access forum chat through your phone. (or change your theme below to see it in action on your dekstop)

Shinier chat

It looks a bit prettier, though I might revert it back, we'll see how the new "shinier" chat works out.

Topic Descriptions

You can now add "Topic Descriptions" to posts. This isn't a new feature, it's old. But it got removed in version 3.2. I added the hook while I was sorting out this. Did some personal tweaks to the hook myself so you can see them when viewing new content (if you were on at the time you might have seen the text jumping about a bit as I got it formatted correctly). Gonna be fun to duplicate it on any new skins.

FURLs

"Friendly URLs". Another "it went away and now it's back in" feature. Basically makes the URLs human readable. Though this may not always be around as it does at a bit of overhead.

Misc

Some tweaks to the moderator toolbox and how the forum interacts with the database (aka it should run a bit faster.)

Added in some icons to the front page, should spice things up a bit. They currently only show on the PXOD skin (I need to manually tweak the skin first). If anyone thinks they can do better they're 35*35 in a variety of image formats(I'd prefer png). Especially a better "multi-platform" icon, I kinda dislike that one. Entertainment Exchange too.

I'll see about finalizing the new skins this weekend. See that post for more info.

Update 3.3.4 - Just a bug fixing update n such. Next update is 3.4, so a "major" update.

I've also added Tapatalk support to the forum as a few guys were interested in it. It does mean that a pop-up appears if you visit the site from a mobile though, but I think that can easily be removed without affecting people being able to access the app.

I've updated the rules for the new year. Mainly consolidating some rules, removing irrelvant ones (Such as reference to the Gallery and New Vegas). I've also added in a rule on spoilers; if it's a game within the past two years then use spoiler tags. The button occasionally disappears but it's simple enough to type in manually. In fact it's normally easier as you can type to hearts content, then spoiler tag when you're done instead of typing it inside the pop-up.
spoiler goes here
Also a tweak of signature rules, which I will be enforcing at some point in the future. The image and link thing is enforced by the system, but achievements cards are embedded, they technically just count as links, not images, and there's one or two of you that have gone a bit overboard. The only way to have the signature editor enforce a limit would be to reduce the link count down to one too.

I've also updated the donation thread for a new year too.

Done an update:

  • Tapatalk might be sorted..maybe. I updated their plug-in(hook), seems it's updated alongside the forum too as I didn't have to manually edit stuff this time and there's a nice "tapatalk" tab. I'm assuming push notifications are what you're after? If so we should now have them.
  • I've gutted the old "Reputation" tab we'd been running from early days as the forum has for a while had its own system built in, so there's now a forum default "Likes" tab which shows the posts n everything.
  • I've yet to to test it but as far as I can tell the media tag should now accept youtu.be links.
  • It works
  • You can click the cog n screwdriver icon in the RTE to enable an option that'll mean everything you past is in plain text. Could be useful, might not be. Either way clicking the rubber icon on the other side removes formatting of selected text anyway.
  • When quoting people it'll automatically preview the quote. Not sure how to describe it, just quote someone and see it in action. Basically it won't show
tags anymore unless you toggle the light switch in the corner of the RTE.
  • There's the ability to make !question and answer" sub-forums with a "best answer" feature. I won't be bothering with it.
  • Same with this "VigLink" thing they've included.
  • There's also the ability to log in via Windows ID, I've not enable this but I can. Would folks want it?
  • To save memorising everyones name I've decided to call you all Array.

Re: Tapatalk and Status Updates.

Apparently they're working on it, but they said that almost a year ago. So, no, it currently doesn't support those, and you'll have to go to the browser.

Just in case anyone wants to know.

EDIT:

Notifications work, too! iOS at least.

I've enabled the Tag system. It got introduced a while back but there wasn't much need for it. As we see the introduction of 8th gen it's probably a good idea to turn it on. I've thrown in 7th n 8th gen systems as default tags and I'll be updating existing topics and you'll be able to add them to any topics you make in the future. You can click on them and it'll make a list of all the topics tagged with that system, *hopefully* regardless of which sub-forum it is posted in.

edit: I should note it's mainly meant for the Multi-Platform, Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo sub-forums. Don't really need to tag everything in PC Games subforum as being PC :P

Okay, that's cool as shit.  When I have some time I'll go tag threads that are missing them.

If there's a multiplatform game, say Watch Dogs, should we tag the thread with all systems that the game's on?  What kind of guidelines do we want for that kind of thing?

Well I'd just done Watchdogs so there's a guideline I guess:

Also if you click on one of the tags and hey presto:

http://forum.pressxordie.com/tags/forums/PS4/

edit: Oh cool, there's there's a little box added at the bottom of threads with an "Also tagged as..."
