TheMightyEthan
The Simpsons got good at Season 2, peaked at Season 8, and was worth watching through Season 13.
SomTervo
I was including that in "classic US sitcoms"! It's almost not worth counting at this point. It's like an institution. One could argue South Park is still pertinent at S13 or whatever.
TheMightyEthan
Ah, I posted that before your edit showed up.
Hot Heart
I finished Dollhouse the other day. Actually really liked it. It had hits and misses but the second season definitely picks up (apparently that flash forward ep didn't air originally, either). Does a lot of smart things with the concept, and the actors were all pretty good (the Victor guy was really versatile, and I loved his 'Topher'). Some of the twists were pretty shocking yet smart, too, although the main one is a little... eh, alright. And, yep, I spotted the couple of Firefly references when Summer Glau showed up. Got too much into current events in the rest of the seasons but still did have at least 3 solid eps per season I would say. The newest one, the redskins episode, falls under the current events problem. It had funny moments but let's hope they do more episodes where the boys do semi believable stuff, not outrageous stuff like this. Like the Black Friday Trilogy last season. Probably my favorite multi-parter. Or Investigative murder porn.
Faiblesse Des Sens
BoJack Horseman was probably the most mediocre (and at times supremely boring and outright bad) show I've watched in a while. I made it through the whole season just not to leave any loose threads. Hell, I would fall asleep to it, because I wasn't excited about anything after watching it. deanb
It can't have been that bad if you watched the entire series, normally if something is bad you tend to stop after a couple episodes.
Chronixal
I'm trying to find a reason to finish watching the first series of OITNB and so far not finding one. Me and the other half starting watching it on a whim some 3-4 weeks ago and binged through about 7 episodes before calling it a night. And despite enjoying it at the time, I'm not feeling a need to keep watching. Which is odd because most of the characters are great. The American Pie lad is a standout for me, oddly enough. I personally think though it's held back by revolving around one main character (who's pretty unlikable to boot) and would be better suited to a Bad Girls style format (one for you UK folk). Latter half of the season is definitely better. All of the supporting characters are what makes OITNB so good. Piper, and the guy from American Pie, are both pretty terrible characters - Piper is second only to Ted from HIMYM as my most disliked lead character in otherwise good shows list. Bad Girls was awesome.
SomTervo
You cant compare Piper and Ted! Piper isnt amazing, but Ted is the WORST Season 2 of OitNB seems a lot better. Only watched the first episode but it has a MUCH better plot hook. I totally get what you mean, Chronix, about not feeling like watching any more episodes. It's a great show, proper excellent- but sometimes feels like an actual effort to watch. Edited September 28, 2014 by kenshi_ryden
TheMightyEthan
That's funny, I watched the first episode of S2 and went "welp, I have no interest to ever watch this show again" and I haven't.
SomTervo
I could see that- i guess the whole potential drama set up at the end of the first season doesnt really get resolved at all. Ive been getting fully into Rick and Morty... Tiny robot: How can I serve you, master? Rick: Fetch the butter. Robot fetches butter. Rick: Thank you! Robot: Master... What is my purpose? Rick: To fetch butter. Robot: ... Oh my god... Rick: Join the club, pal. Edited October 9, 2014 by kenshi_ryden
Mal
I recently got into watching Rome but knowing that it is based off history kind of brings it down a notch. I don't know why since it isn't that different from say Game of Thrones. If I have to guess, I would guess that it is pretty well known what happens to Caesar. Also the conflict between Mark Anthony and Octavian (Augustus Caesar) is also well known. So nothing major is left unknown. The only thing that is kept suspenseful is the lives of Titus and Lucius. Not to say that it isn't fun watching. It is always nice to see portrayals of the past... even if it may not be the most accurate of depictions. Plus it's about the fucking fall of the Roman Republic and the rise of Roman Empire. What is there not to love?
TheMightyEthan
My wife and I recently watched the Tudors, and we kept accidentally giving ourselves spoilers because we'd want to know if something was historically accurate, so we'd look the person up on wikipedia and right at the top it would say something like "Death: 1631, Tower Hill". Welp.
SomTervo
We're getting back up on Homeland. Well into season 3 now. The characters and dialogue are phenomenal, but the story is becoming more and more flawed as it goes on. Still good. But not the brilliance of the first season (except the whole bullshit romancey story arc in the middle of it). TheRevanchist
Avoid Constantine at all costs. The show is terrible. The main character reminds of a teen trying too hard to be brooding and different. I can't tell if that is a fault with the writing, or is that a fault with the actor. It might be both. And they are forcing the sexual tension too much to where it feels contrived. Nothing good will come of this show.
Mister Jack
Is it too much to ask to get ONE decent Hellblazer adaptation? Jesus Crusty Christ.
Eleven
Has anyone seen the last South Park episode? WTF I am so confused... and I just completely lost it when Steve called himself, I just laughed till the end of the episode. I don't think I'll ever figure out wtf happened in that episode... TheRevanchist
Steve couldn't even give himself good customer service. That just cracked me up. It was a fun episode to follow the repeat of the freemium gaming episode.
Mal
So, I got caught up with South Park for this season. Good Lorde, that was a fun way to spend 3 hours. Also someday Wendy is going to snap. Her or Butters. Butters has been getting bolder on calling Cartman on his bullshit, I think.
TCP
So I'm finally watching Twin Peaks. I have about 4 episodes left. The first season, and the first half of the second season are a terrific run. Introducing the weirder elements feels natural and was very well done. However, after we find out who killed Laura Palmer, everything sort of falls apart, but it's still enjoyable though. Is the movie worth watching? TheMightyEthan
I lost interest about halfway through the first season when I tried to watch it.
TheRevanchist
If you like Twin Peaks, check out Northern Exposure. Both shows were out at about the same time and had a similar sensibility about them. I've never seen the Twin Peaks movie, but it is a David Lynch movie. TheFlyingGerbil
The movie is bad but if you make it through the last part of the second series you should watch it for the sake of completeness. Just remember not to get your hopes up as it continues the downward trend.
deanb
I've being watching The Thick of It. Watching it before the Autumn Statement just makes it all the more humorous, and certainly going to be fun to see how my brain reacts going in to the Doctor Who Xmas special.
