Eleven
Hey so I'm watching Westworld and there's something I don't understand (or I think I don't understand). I'm just 3 episodes in Is the narrative just 1 full day? Seems like they it's just 1 day with lots of different variations due to actions done by the newcomers. But if it's just 1 day then that seems a little lame. Also that one guy commented paying "40k a day", so they are there multiple days but are they basically living the same day? That seems like a ripoff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TheMightyEthan
Different narrative loops run different lengths of time. I think the default is that most characters repeat a single day until someone engages with them, in which case the narrative they start might last longer than that day. The characters repeating their default loop just adjust it according to whatever disruptions are caused by guests' actions or engagements with story lines.
deanb
I'm...4/5 episodes in so far The prostitute jus had the guy cut the bullet out of her at the end . I sorta understood it as Ethan said For example the bandits only come in and rob the main town once a week or something, unless the guests instigate things a bit sooner. what I don't (currently) get is Dolores has met up with the meek guy n his mate, but while sleeping at a camp with them also was able to chat with Bernard downstairs. I'm also curious on how many guests their are, cos be harder to sort of have staff come through and sort things if there is guests still around. Would spoil the illusion a bit. Also amazed so far none of the guests have interacted with each other really. I guess they'd figure things out when the bullets bounce off each other. Eleven
Ah... so it is like a game. People just wait for you till you talk to them and do their quest, then they continue on with their narrative. If you ignore them they're just there, waiting for you to click on them ... But like Dean, I don't get when Bernard and others supposedly pulled some of the hosts, like Maeve and Dolores. Seems like they're being pulled in the middle of their day. But I guess I'll just wait and see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Eleven
I know you guys probably don't watch too many CW shows, but I can't get over how geeky Supergirl's Superman is. He looks so nerdy to me. Like it's not Superman, but just some dude dressing up. Granted I haven't watched the episode yet, probably gonna wait till half the season's over or something. deanb
I watch Flash n Supergirl. Might give Legends of Tomorrow a looksy, though probably gonna skip Arrow given it'll be a fair bit of an investment at this point. And yeah, I guess a bit nerdy but bear in mind 1. He is kinda nerdy to a degree 2. We're way too used to grimdark Superman at this point so might skew the perspective a bit.
Eleven
I can see your point, and especially about grimdark Superman, but I always thought of Superman as an imposing figure when you see him, and this dude doesn't do it. Kind of like how Superman is in the Justice League cartoon. But we'll see once I watch the episode. I finished Westworld and now I understand some of the things I was wondering about. So I guess some of the talks with Dolores are actually flashbacks with the real Arnold, or a memory, that's why sometimes it seems she's being pulled in the middle of her day. I'm not exactly sure how Maeve's timeline works with Dolores' current loop though. I guess Maeve just repeats her day and Dolores is basically MIA on those loops since she's following the maze. Teddy too, since he's basically hanging from that tree all that time I guess. Also answered my questions about Lawrence being El Lazo while basically traveling with the man in black. Also, Angela being a 35 year old (at least) host and the man in black being familiar with him. I also found out I feel the same way about these hosts as I did with the FO4 synths. I never considered them to be human (much like Logan, although I certainly wouldn't be that sadistic), hence I tend to side with the humans plans to keep them under control, wiping them, etc. I was seriously annoyed with that guy Felix and I thought he was an idiot to go so far as to give Maeve everything she wants. Robots are robots I guess. Watching this makes me think of the Animus as well, for some reason, and I really want that tech further explored in an HBO series. I'd say maybe in a movie too but I don't watch movies, they're too short so no. Edited December 29, 2016 by ElevenDaysOfChristmas

Hot Heart
So, I finished S2 of Rick & Morty a while back (I was waiting for Netflix to get it) and my friend is a fucking liar. He said S2 wasn't nearly as good as S1... but it's brilliant. Just as good as S1, if not better. There are so many neat ideas in there and lots of great moments, and that finale was a real shock.
deanb
I'd say S2 is much better (S1 still great mind). "Keep Summer Safe", "Everything is on a cob!". I guess it did have the Purge episode but it at least acknowledged that. Oh and the episode with Fart (which thank god you'd seen). Step-mum put on a chunk of Crystal Skull and then some rom-com thing last night so I got through a couple of episodes of Westworld. I'd figured some of the workers would be host, and figured the CEO-ish woman would have been, but nope human (well..I guess so, would mean Bernard is missing the "do not kill" code if she's human). Kinda cool how that was set up with her having a host as tech earlier in the episode.I think i'm on episode or 8 now, and it's deinetly coming to a head. Stupid tech giving the madame higher settings, that's gonna fuck up somewhere.
Eleven
Stupid tech giving the madame higher settings, that's gonna fuck up somewhere. Haha. This was bothering me too. Why would you do that!? Up until that point he had other choices. That's why I kind of hate her storyline. It all hinged on him doing stupid things. deanb
have finisheed Westworld. Kinda felt the finale was a bit flat, guess it's made with the intention of going through a couple times, got a bit confusing with the timelines n such. Like as in I understand the overall flow, but the editing of them together even when they've kinda revealed it's on several timelines. I have no idea on modern Dolores path she ttook now. I guess to a degree they might have had a finale all nicely written out then someone said "hey you guys seen that Humans show?" and someone went "aahhh shit". Speaking of I think S2 of that is next on my list, that or The Expanse.
deanb
Narrativia have announced that they'll be doing a Good Omens TV show to air on BBC and Amazon Prime. http://discworld.com/narrativia-announce-first-major-television-co-production-bbc-studios-neil-gaimans-blank-corporation/ I am both somewhat excited, but also slightly wary since so far nothing has actually panned out of announcements from Narrativia. (there was meant to be a City Watch TV series too, and pretty sure an animated Mort film also announced). In other TV news I've (as noted elsewhere) started binging on 30 Rock, a decent short TV show to wedge into my day. I've also started on The Expanse (which might go in my reading list too, heard the books are decent), so far so good.
TheMightyEthan
I've read all the Expanse books (am currently reading the most recent one) and I highly recommend them.
Mr. GOH!
This is the TV Show thread, not the book thread!!! BAN ETHAN!!!! But, yes, the Expanse books are pretty fun and interesting. Fun fact: the narrative universe was originally created for a never-finished miniatures/board game by one of the co-authors ( Jame S.A. Corey is the pen name of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck). Second fun fact: one of the co-authors (Abraham, I believe) works closely with GRRM on Game of Thrones continuity issues for the novel series. Also, I really enjoyed Abraham's Long Price Quarter of fantasy novels. Also, the Expanse TV show is pretty decent for its limitations.
Mister Jack
I've been watching A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix and really enjoying it so far. I raised my eyebrow a little at the idea of NPH playing Count Olaf, but he's doing a great job.
Hot Heart
I've been sporadically watching Deadwood and The 100. Deadwood takes me back to the good old days of NYPD Blue (an earlier David Milch joint). Obviously not setting-wise but just in the tone, cinematography, language, etc. It also feels somewhat quaint compared to the sorts of drama I've watched in more recent years. It's hard to articulate but it has a very soap sort of feel but in a good way with the overlapping lives of the characters in the community. It's also funny spotting all the actors who went onto other things. I've seen Nick Offerman's penis, Garrett Dillahunt playing super weird as well as Scully & Hitchcock from Brooklyn Nine-Nine in small parts, not to mention Molly Parker, John Hawkes and heaps of others. Also interesting seeing Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane since I don't really know much American history. And then The 100. This was recommended by a film critic way back and I never really got fully into it but I've watched a few more episodes now. I have a feeling I've discussed it before. It's distinctly YA in its set-up and characters (got to be post-apocalyptic nowadays) but that also means it actually has a diverse cast. Some of the writing can be a little hokey but the actual plotting and way things weave together is usually quite smart. It's also very Lord of the Flies in the way these "children" govern themselves but also how all the characters manage to run into these quite serious moral dilemmas. It's a good watch and I think takes advantage of its long form storytelling as we learn more about each character, altering our opinion of them over time (you know, like in Game of Thrones, for example).

Mal
I never liked Eggos, especially not now that I associate it with eldritch abominations. Honestly, that ad might have shown a bit too much. We know the Upside Down is a whole other world. Should've let it turn up to 11 naturally as people watch through season 2. TheMightyEthan
I'm glad I was looking at my phone when that trailer came on, so all I saw was the ending title card.
Mal
Jack, as expected, got burnt out trying to defeat Aku and judging by the trailer, everything got to go back to that fateful battle when Jack was sent through the portal of time. Edit: This trailer is TOO GOOD. Edited February 8, 2017 by Mal
CorgiShinobi
It has been far too long. This was another rare cartoon my father would actually follow along with me. I told him about the revival and how Jack has been in the future for 50 years. "Wait, he's in the future?"
