pocoGRANDE
I NEED MOAR PERIOD DRAMAS! Just finished watching Boardwalk Empire and can't wait for more. Know any other ones? I'm not really picky, I just like that setting. They should make more. I need more! Where are they? Currently watching Legend of the Seeker. All I can say is.... Kahlan is pretty. Also, it feels weird that I'm watching a medieval show where they have an American accent. It doesn't feel authentic if it doesn't have that British accent. It feels cheap! CHEAP! it's kind of the obvious choice (haven't checked the early thread to see if you've already mentioned it) but Deadwood is one of my absolute favorite tv shows of all time. this is largely unrelated but the two shows that have been killing it recently for me are the Ricky Gervais Show (season 3 just wrapped up) and this new show Gravity Falls on the disney channel. Gravity Falls is really one of the best animated shows i've seen and it's only on the 4th episode. i think if it catches on it could be the next Adventure Time. Strangelove
Does "Dinosaurs" count as a period drama? It does take place during a period". Id also argue that its more drama than comedy since they all die at the end of the show. Thanks alot, ice age/meteor/god/whatever. TheFlyingGerbil
Kind of loving Revenge at the moment. It's some pretty OTT drama. Happy it's got a second series but surely she must be running out of people to ruin.
Waldorf and Statler
Good pick Eleven. I wish more people gave Boardwalk Empire a shot. Season 1 is decent, but season 2 is a giant step up and a must watch for any period dramas and mafia fans.

I know every generation thinks their music/tv/cartoons/etc was the best....But us 90s kids had it good! Waldorf and Statler
I like to think so too. I mean we had the best generation of tv hands down. Only thing close is 80's kids.
danielpholt
I've just finished watching Season 1 of Friday Night Lights. It really lived up to the hype. Can't wait for Season 2 to make it over here. As for the finale, i thought it was kind of weak for a final episode. I didn't even realise it was the last episode of the season until i checked next weeks listings and noticed it wasn't due to record.

Eleven
I've just finished watching Season 1 of Friday Night Lights. It really lived up to the hype. I think I mentioned earlier in this thread that I do like shows about school life, college or high school. This was one of the shows I wanted to check out because I remember seeing this pop up and apparently it was good. For some reason I forgot about it, I guess I'll add it back to my queue. I know the title is "favorite TV shows", but I kinda like a general thread where we just comment/talk about shows we recently watched. I mean not every TV show needs to have a thread, because they'd be empty. We're kinda getting off topic here since we are now just talking about recently watched shows. But I don't know, should we continue or just keep this thread as favorites and make a new one? I vote we continue on, as "Favorite" show discussion will only last so long. So I guess we make this the general TV discussion thread? Having said that, I think I'm gonna like Legend of the Seeker. I think I've been watching too many shows that are more "in touch" with reality. I don't know is that a good description? What I mean is shows like (since we're talking about medieval history/history here) Game of Thrones, The Tudors, Rome to name a few. You don't see wizards and magical swords in there, even if it's medieval stuff. This show is medieval fantasy, and it feels like I'm playing a video game. I mean the guy is (minor spoilers) an untrained fighter and is outnumbered like 15 to 1 and he manages to defeat them all without a scratch and save the girl. I like it. It feels like he has this main quest, and it looks like each episode (granted I have only seen 2 episodes) would be some kind of side-quest. Looking forward to watching more. P4: Gritty Reboot
I'd like this to be more general TV discussion, so I'll go ahead and change the thread name.

Waldorf and Statler
I think the thread should be called "Pages and pages of pointless discussion over the superiority of one tv show over the other when Arrested Development would like to have a word with you" Edited July 13, 2012 by Waldorf And Statler
Mister Jack
Breaking Bad this sunday, y'all. I try not to put too much stock into metacritic, but season 5 has an average of friggin 100, which I don't think I've ever seen before on that site.

Nexus
I caught up with all of Breaking Bad in the space of a week. Can't wait for the new series.
Hot Heart
I finished watching S2 of Game of Thrones. Can't honestly say I enjoyed it as much as S1, though I think it is only half of the second book so maybe that's why. Not that it was bad at all. Obviously it had a lot more disjointed sections and they seemed to progress a lot slower, but you can tell some serious stuff is on the horizon. Waldorf and Statler
My friend said he couldn't wait for Breaking Bad anymore and would start watching it asap. I would rather wait until 7 of the 8 episodes of this first half season are aired, catch up with all of them, then watch the mid season finale with my friends. Which should be near when classes start.

Obviously it had a lot more disjointed sections and they seemed to progress a lot slower, but you can tell some serious stuff is on the horizon. It wasn't as good as the first season. It was very good still, but that first season may never be matched for the rest of the series. Also, it did cover the entire second book (even encroached on book 3 territory a little bit; the final scene is the prologue of A Storm of Swords). The third season will not cover all of the third book though.
Waldorf and Statler
I feel like a lot of the characters/stuff that were cut out had no need to be cut out, but at the same time they kind of had to in terms of time and introductions. Thing about a TV show is that you can't just mention a character for one scene and then not see him again until the next season. aka Berric Dondarrion
danielpholt
I think they've recast Berric. As for the second season, it certainly had its moments but I don't think it was as great as th first season. Still excellent viewing though. I think the problem stems from the fact that they had so many characters to weave in. They also spent too much time with Robb, although I can forgive that as they need him for future seasons. I hope in future that they can go down the episode 9 route and focus entirely on 1 storyline for an entire episode.

The third season will not cover all of the third book though. Oh, wow, thanks for the info. Can't imagine having read the books first and having to wait for the third. That would've been disappointing/annoying. I think the first season had the advantage of everything branching out from the Starks (plus a little novelty factor) whereas this was moving a little slower and moving pieces into place for later. Not that it didn't have a culmination or two...
Eleven
Anyone here watching/ has watched Continuum? It's about that future cop and the 8 terrorists who time traveled to the past. Don't worry that wasn't a spoiler. That was the premise of the show. Anyway, I really like it. I don't really care about good acting/bad acting (unless it's really really terrible) so I won't comment about that. It's pretty interesting. You guys who participate in the politics thread might like it. It's very interesting (hmm I already said that), I don't know if I should root for the cop or the terrorists. No spoilers though please as I'm only on the 3rd episode.
MasterDex
I like it, it's very entertaining and Jodie FosterRachel Nichols does a good job at playing the "person out of time" role. I'm not quite sure where it's going with its political themes however. Is it arguing against corporate control over government or for it?? Still, I'll be watching it until it's cancelled in favour of something more mainstream (which seems to happen to everything good these days.) Has The Newsroom been mentioned here? I'm really enjoying it and it's great to see Jeff Daniels front and centre again...maybe he has been front and centre in recent times but it must have been in things that themselves haven't been front and centre. I like how the show is set up as well. It takes news from the past couple of years and builds the episodes around it. How long they can keep the whole thing going without stepping on a few toes but with Aarkon Sorkin at the helm, I'm sure they'll weather whatever storm comes their way. Eleven
I'm not quite sure where it's going with its political themes however. Is it arguing against corporate control over government or for it?? Yeah that's one of the things I like about it. Well, I just hope they handle it well moving forward. There's the obvious hero who you should feel sympathy for, who stands with the corporations (she's corporate police!). There's the terrorists who are against the corporations. Then minor spoilers: there's the kid who's dad is against corporations. But the kid is helping future cop in the present, so what happens with that? I'd add more about this but that would be real spoilers I wouldn't want to... spoil...
