I'm on episode 7 now.

I... don't know how I feel about it. I like that we have a new season. And it's pretty funny still. I just don't like the style of these new episodes.

I think it's too focused on 1 character, that it get's tiring to watch. Also, I'm having trouble following the plot. It definitely is 1 big story, but a lot of time jumps occur in an episode. They show you each character on what they've been up to all this time (I assume up to Michael and Gob's Scene in the first episode), and they show you how it all interconnects but then every time they do they add in more details. I guess it should make you go "Ahhh.. so that's what happened, that's what it was for...". Sometimes it just gets too confusing.

Also, too much narration? I don't know... It seems like there's too much. Or maybe too much important information in the narration. I don't know how to put it... First thing I've noticed since the first episode, even before I realized I didn't like the new format.

In short, it's even more unappealing to people who didn't like/bother with the first 3 seasons. Even if you watch it "on DVD" where you get all the episodes. Watching the first 3 seasons on DVD was the most helpful suggestion you could give to anyway looking to enjoy the old show.

I REALLY HOPE they have a few episodes where the cast is all together. More than 1! Though I must admit I'm looking forward to Gob's episode. My favorite scene:

Buster: ..."Don't pull out!"

Gob: "GAAAAAAAAAHHHH" (in agony)

A friend came over to watch it last night. He got here pretty late so we only had time to watch the first five. We really enjoyed it.

The first 2-3 episodes are pretty heavy on exposition and not as good, but the second Michael episode and the Tobias one were definitely quite a step-up in quality.

The new format is weird and hard to get used to but it's understandable considering the size of the cast and different their schedules must be. So it doesn't bother me too much. Really looking forward to the Gob episode. He really wasn't present enough in the first few. :(

The watermark gag through me for a bit, but I understood it's the producers acting like they had to rip footage from Fox.

Unfortunately, quite a bit of people became confused and began to worry, or get a little pissed because of it being "amateur."

I'm currently going through the first couple episodes, but I want to hold off until some of the family watches together.

Watched the whole season with friends yesterday. Really enjoyed it.

It is a little unbalanced from the way it's structured, but I guess there was no way around that. Even when it wasn't firing on all cylinders, I liked it. For the most part, I was just happy to see the characters again, but then things got moving and it really was very funny. It still had a lot of the same things that made it great and it's still dense with little sight gags and things (check Lucille's prison number or search George Michael's less embarrassing name, for example). And they got so many old faces back, as well as some good new characters, it was fantastic.

At times, it does get a little too caught up in its machinations and can get a little confusing when those mix with the timejumps (another fault of the structure, really) while overexplaining things elsewhere (if you're watching them back-to-back anyway). A lot of the twisty nature of the story was good though, and it must have been a headache to plan it all. I was really impressed overall though.

Also, while Kristen Wiig was OK, I wasn't a fan of Seth Rogen as young George Snr. I liked how they did flashbacks before.

ps. maybe I missed it, but I'm surprised there wasn't an 'any Storm in a port' joke made during the harbour bit of the Tobias episode. :P

I've finished it now too, and I'm gonna take back a little of what I said before. The style grew on me, though I still would have preferred (I'm gonna put this in spoilers now)

something with more of the cast in it. Before watching this season I picked out a random episode (was planning to re-watch the series, but who has the time...) and what I watched was the one where they unfroze the company's assets and Michael bought a car. I loved how they all interacted with each other in that episode. So I kinda missed that...

Anyway, some random thoughts

I love Gob but I'm not a fan of his episode so I was kinda let down there... No magic tricks? No Final Countdown? Gob's tricks were always so fun to watch. I remember the disappearing boat trick and how hard I laughed when he revealed how he did it.

But I LOVE the George-Michael episodes! Those are probably my favorites. I can't pinpoint exactly what I liked about them, but I really enjoyed watching those. Also enjoyed that they lamp-shaded the fact he never met Lucille 2. Amazing!

Apparently Portia is the busiest of the cast given the little role she played this season. To be fair, Lindsay doesn't have enough material to work with anyway. I did enjoy her 2nd episode.

I need to watch it again. I think I missed something 'cause I'm still wondering what Anus Tart is.

The end was very sudden and makes me want more. Which I think is what they wanted to do anyway. What the fuck happened at cinco? They kept building up the scenario but we get nothing.

LOL at Sally Sitwell's secret. Should've seen that one coming.

My next episode will be number 7 and as of right now everything people have said about the show has been true:

- The first 2-3 episodes are TERRIBLY meh. Like the first George Sr. episode was my stopping point at first because I was so bored.

-It gets better but the new "one character" episode style is off-putting for many. To me? Kind of. I feel like this show truly shines when many of the family members are together and so far it has been like one or two family members at a time.

All I can say right now, stopping right before Lucille's 1st episode, is that it does feel unbalanced. So far it has been this tag team of Michael, George Sr., Lindsey, and Tobias. Gob is sprinkled in and he gets an episode, but the main focus so far has been this interconnected story of just those four people.

I'm actually wanting to see George Michael, and Maeby will randomly pop up to only give us a hint of what is going on in her life.

Haven't seen much of Buster either...

Alright, even though it still gets muddled with every episode slightly adding onto, like, five different plots, episode 11 (2nd Gob) was highly hilarious and the ending was perfect. Seriously, I got the feeling...

George Michael was seeing Rebel. The weird twist of his name with the flower, and his excuses when talking with his father made it seem like a good possibility.

GOB never did any tricks on the show.

He did ILLUSIONS.

Also they did do Final Countdown.

Wow. Totally missed that. I'm trying to think where it could have played, but I can't think of a fitting scene.

And re: WaS comment above (don't read if you haven't seen the first George-Michael episode, not the first episode - that's a Michael one! I'm talking about the one later in the season.)

They do have 1 scene with the cast all in there, in the family's apartment. Though you don't see all of them in that scene until later in the episode, each of them showing up 1 by 1. I found it hilarious when I watched G-M's episode and it put a twist in that scene (not a twist more like they added the detail on why they are all there in the first place). Seriously, that is one poor kid. Always being ignored.

Someone should do a complete cut of this scene with all the gags. I'd love to watch that!

Edit: Also WTF was Anne doing there. I guess she's with Gob? Kept waiting to hear her speak but she never did!

Maybe I missed it, but do they ever reveal who Gob was with in the house when Micheal comes in? You just see her leg. And its not Anne because that scene takes place near the end of all the vents. Im kind of curious. It must be a big deal to play it at least 3 times and for Micheal to be so surprised by it.
