TheMightyEthan
They equalize the stats for all players and weapons to a base number (not averaged between the current players). For instance player health is standardized to 200. What they do not equalize is abilities you gain from leveling. I'm sure their power is scaled in some way, but you still get to use the abilities you've unlocked. In the beta I made the mistake of going to the crucible before I'd unlocked my super. That was painful.
Strangelove
So is there a third subclass to unlock or is it going to be sold to me as dlc? For warlock there is clearly an empty third square in the equip screen. Also, the Destiny app actually says 2/3 under subclass.
TheMightyEthan
All three classes have a missing slot. As of yet no one knows exactly what's going to happen with that, other than that presumably it will be filled in some fashion.
TheMightyEthan
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-09-12-destiny-public-events-to-occur-more-frequently Bungie's making public events happen more frequently (which is good, I've only run into two, one was with Kenshi and it was awesome), and the Vault of Glass raid opens up on the 16th. It's level 26.
Strangelove
Missing dlc shouldn't be that obvious. Also, can you only co-op in teams of three? Any time I do a strike, there's only two other dudes with me. I haven't played with anyone in a party yet.
SomTervo
You can party with up to 8 people I believe. 8 people appear emergently in the game world. Fireteams (who can do missions together) only up to 3 people. Raids are up to 6 and friends only. TheMightyEthan
12 people appear randomly in the game, but otherwise that ^. Re: missing DLC: that's the most probable, I just said "nobody knows" because it hasn't been confirmed yet, and Bungie's been talking about there being lots of free content updates in addition to DLC.
Strangelove
When playing crucible games, do you pick up items or randomly earn them?
SomTervo
12 people appear randomly in the game, but otherwise that ^. Awesome, was it only 8 in the beta? I swear I read about an 8 limit and never saw more than 5-6 people on my Game list at any one time. Strange: I think in Crucible you just earn them at the end of the match. I don't think anything is dropped in-game, unlike in Campaign/co-op. I feel it's a little flawed how non-obvious loot drops are in the singleplayer game. Especially trade-in collectibles. I almost never physically see them and just walk over them by accident. Edited September 12, 2014 by kenshi_ryden
TheMightyEthan
I agree. I usually see encrypted engrams, but special item drops I never see, and regular equipment drops I often miss too.
Mr. GOH!
Damn, son, Polygon's two reviewers were not wowed by Destiny. http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/12/6138497/destiny-review-no-fate
Hot Heart
To be honest, most of that appears to match up to my experience from the beta. It just lacks the variety and spectacle that Halo had. However, I imagine it becomes a lot more enjoyable with friends and probably worth the price of admission. SomTervo
I'm finding it hard not to be wowed by it. I just got to the Moon, and holy shit is the level design good. Like matching Halo's best but a lot more consistent. And the sense of adventure is just amazing. To boot, with pals it's insanely fun. Also, the instant vehicles start coming into the co-op gameplay, everything just kicks off. Hots: the Earth is clearly like the tip of the iceberg, the most dull of all the levels. Even the moon is a giant step up.
TheMightyEthan
This mission I thought captured some of the awesome setpiece feel that people are saying Destiny lacks (Venus side mission spoilers):
Strangelove
Anyone use the Destiny app? It's pretty awesome. Has tons of info. Wish there was an iPad version though. Using a phone app on a tablet sucks.
TheMightyEthan
I tried using it to check out the grimoire, but it doesn't mark which ones you've read so then when I go back to the website it shows them unread and that bothers me. Interesting that there's no iPad version, the Android version scales appropriately for my Nexus 10.
Vecha
Wow...Polygon rated Sims 4 higher...(I know I know. Silly to make those comparisons).
SomTervo
I seriously cannot ever take Polygon's reviews seriously. Their journalism, okay, sometimes, but reviews? Never
Strangelove
The marks and reputation shit is so confusing. If you join one of the factions, you'll get that factions reputation instead of vanguard, which basically locks you out of using the vanguard marks since you need a certain level of reputation. That's basically the vanguard quartermaster and the main vanguard people that stand around a table at the tower. You join a faction and they're useless. You get vanguard marks by doing playlist strikes and weekly and daily missions. Crucible marks can be used to get faction items and crucible items. You also need to build up crucible rep by doing the red crucible bounties. That's what I've figured. I think so far.
Hot Heart
There's a bit of an explanation of that stuff here: http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2g22lo/about_to_hit_level_20_heres_what_to_do_next_minor/ Might make more sense to you than me. Strangelove
Ive read it before, but its hard to keep in my head. Its just all so awkward. The app says Ive only played for a little over 30 hours in total....thats not true. Ive been playing it since tuesday at 7am and have only stopped to sleep and eat. Despite the short amount of locations and maybe content overall, Ive gotten my money's worth. Im in Diablo 3 mode right now trying to get really cool stuff so I look cool and/or dont suck anymore. Anyways, I have 11 strange coins, need two more to get an exotic item.
TheMightyEthan
How do you get weapons with light to get your level above 20?
Strangelove
Its random. Once youre above level 20, most rare(and above) weapons will have a light stat. Uncommon and regular weapons never have light.
TheMightyEthan
Okay, so just do things that have better loot drops. Thanks. *Edit* - I said weapons, but I meant gear generally, and I actually think only armor can have light? Edited September 14, 2014 by TheMightyEthan
Strangelove
Yeah. I personally have never seen a weapon with light.
