deanb
This is probably going to be a silly question, but I'm not totally in the swing of next-gen things and the semi-MMO nature of Destiny: If I was to load my XBL account into friends Xbox One, would I be able to play with you guys? TheMightyEthan
I think you have to have gold, but I'm not sure. Also I don't know if we have anyone with the Xbone version.
SomTervo
I'm hoping the warm critical response to Destiny will make Bungie lower the price of DLC in the future. It's the only thing which makes me really hesitant/worried about my purchase. I'm enjoying the game itself greatly. Although Bungie have probably made millions regardless of reviews and they will probably keep prices the same regardless, too.

SomTervo
Hah, I meant like lukewarm. Reviews have mostly been 6-8 out of 10, which are good scores really. There have been a few scattered stinkers and high. I'd call 6-7 "warm". Like, "not bad".
Strangelove
The expectations for this game were outside the realm of logic. I don't blame people for expecting more maps and locations, that's a very reasonable expectation, but a lot of people were thinking it was going to be like a full blown mmo with huge Mass Effect influences and tons of story. I played absolutely none of that in the beta, so I didn't expect it. Not sure why everyone else did. Â Never thought Id be defending such a huge AAA game since I don't play many, but I've been liking all the recent AAA games that people have been disappointed by. Bioshock Infinite comes to mind. I just don't put these big expensive well known games on a public pedestal. I look for shit I personally like in games, not shit that's expected because of the genre, the developers, the publishers and the general gamer consensus. If it's not a negative to me on a personal level(restrictive chat options), then it's not a negative at all. Â More story, more maps in the base game. That's what I'd change. The game itself is solid.
TheMightyEthan
Found an awesome place to get better gear: Ishtar Commons on Venus.  There's a bigass battle between Fallen and Vex (I want to call them Geth every damn time) so both sides continually respawn.  I hung out there for about an hour and a half last night and replaced almost every piece of gear I'm using at least once, and went from having almost no light to being only one point away from level 21.  The gear that drops for you is based on your level, not the enemy's level, so the higher you are the better you're likely to get (I'm still getting greens probably 90% of the time, with the other 10% being blues).
SomTervo
What's people's thoughts on this "the game begins at level 20" line? I've almost never played an MMO, certainly not to end-game, so I have literally no idea how exactly a game can give so much after you've actually completed all the forward-movement content in it. TheMightyEthan
They do it with stuff like the raids. Â The raid is level 26, but from the way they've talked about it you probably won't be able to beat it at level 26. Â Also, if it's anything like WoW raids there will be a bunch of branching paths and stuff, with multiple bosses. Â Basically it's own little game in its own right. Â That's just an example, but the kind of thing they can do.
Mr. GOH!
Kenshi any game that features character leveling and that people claim only begins after the max level has been reached is either poorly designed, an MMO, or both. All it really means is that the "real game" is chasing ever scarcer loot to upgrade your character because there's no more xp to be had. It can also mean that MP is only fun once you have all your levels, a design choice that seems un-fun in the extreme to me. Why force players to grind through less-fun boring parts to get to the "real game?" Edited September 15, 2014 by Mr. GOH!
TheMightyEthan
I would like to add that I dispute that the claim applies to Destiny, and was just explaining how it could work in theory.

CorgiShinobi
So, I've gotten a bit deep into this game. I've only played with our Caveman of Metal and Ethan the Mighty. Fun times, though Ethan I had to mute you because all I heard out of your mic was what I assumed was a hurricane. Strikes, am I right? I'm not sure I'll be able to do the "No death on a Strike" bounty. Â I haven't bothered to look at most reviews because I get the gist of it all. There were people with too much hype, no one can pinpoint what the game is, thus it's some MMORPFPTPSDC all together. The acronym standing for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing First Person Third Person Dungeon Crawler. Am I exaggerating? I've heard and read people compare it to a lot of games that encompass some aspect of that construct. Â I've heard the game is similar to Halo, but honestly the only thing that feels like Halo is the lore. It plays like Borderlands, though you'll play with two friends or randomly join others on the field. It has "MMO" things, but it doesn't really go that in-depth to a true MMO level, so I keep seeing Phantasy Star Online comments mainly stemming from The Tower as the social hub. During the story you're going through levels that begin to take a crawler aspect, but it doesn't go Diablo 3 until post-story where you're hunting for legendary and exotic loot. Â In the end, it's Destiny and it's really freakin' fun and most days I just want to come home and jump into the game. Again, I haven't read many reviews, but last night I watched GameTrailers review and I agree with it most. They rated it at an 8.0, though for me I'd go up to an 8.5, but it's a damn arbitrary number. For myself, it does a lot of excellent work over a few gripes. My two true complaints are the lack of in-game lore and a lack of content in The Tower. The Grimoire Cards flush out the lore through an external source, but characters and objects are just left out in favor of the Grimoire Cards. The Tower feels like a lot of empty space just to go to vendors where half of them don't do much for you until the end-game portion. Â If I had to put it into words: This is the ultimate rental game, not because of a lack of quality, but because Destiny is a beautiful enigma that will only be able to describe itself through your personal preference on a variety of genre elements. Â EDIT: On pulse rifles, personally most aren't my type, but I've had three that handle amazingly with super fast reload. I tend to keep one of each weapon type because the Crucible leads me to switching up my layout depending on the mode. Hot Heart
Sod it, no point waiting a couple of weeks so went and claimed for my PS4 now. Woo, 'free' PS4!  So... is it worth getting the limited edition of Destiny? I'd probably want the DLC, so being able to get that and the game for £80 along with any extras seems like an okay deal.
SomTervo
yess Hottie  I went for the £55 version, and it's good but I think the DLC will make a big difference. And if your PS4 was 'free', then hell yeah, go for the all-inclusive option! Why force players to grind through less-fun boring parts to get to the "real game?" I very much agree with that in principle, though in Destiny's case, truly I'm with Ethan. Destiny definitely isn't bad, and while it's not technically MMO in terms of player numbers, it's very MMO in terms of structure. Like, they ripped mission and upgrade structure straight out of WoW. And it really works for the most part.  And also I couldn't possibly say it was boring getting to where I am now. I'm level 13-14, and while the "real game" apparently starts at level 20, I'm having a whale of a time. Pretty fun from level 1, but great craic from L8-9 onwards. I know a bunch of people who are level 20 and I'm beginning to see the mechanics which come into it then- and they are really nice. Really deep, good RPG and kit mechanics. Story's starting to pick up pleasantly, too.  Literally my only complaint is that the worlds aren't big enough/ there aren't enough of them. They're still large and, despite the size, incredibly fun to explore. I really didn't expect the worlds to be this good for exploration. SomTervo
I did the Moon strike last night and didn't die- though there were a couple of close moments. Really badass Strike, tho not as long as the Earth one. Â Soooo you can only start the Venus Raid if you're level 26 or higher? And apparently even at that level it will be too tough? Â Wtf, man. Â I read a tiny anecdote in a comment section - a guy saying himself and 5 other level 27's were trying to do the first bit, holding four buttons down or something, but that they were getting so overwhelmed by insanely tough enemies they had to give up after a couple of hours. Didn't even progress past the first stage...
Hot Heart
The tough raid thing sounds awesome if it's like Halo co-op on Legendary. Plus, I think it saves your progress with that leader, so you don't have to do it all in one sitting, just get to a checkpoint. Â Ya, so I ordered the LE of Destiny. Now I guess I'd better actually read up on some stuff and figure out which class I want to play. Gave TItan a go just to get stuck into the beta but it was a bit zzz, even though I was the lifesaver for teammates during that tough/long mission. Might get better as it levels though? Suggestions? TheMightyEthan
It saves your progress, but every Tuesday the saves are wiped, so you only have a week. Â I really like playing Hunter, but Warlock is probably the most different from a normal shooter.
