Hot Heart
I think it could be a little more generous at least. Rather than say people are playing 'wrong' you look at why you're playing. Are you shooting at a cave to get loads of loot just so you can say you have the loot, or would you rather run strikes over and over, ramping up the challenge? As someone who played hours and hours of Resistance 2 co-op, Uncharted 2 and 3 co-op and Halo Reach firefight, I'm not too bothered by the repetition since the shooting and everything is so so satisfying. Hopping in and doing some strikes or some patrol stuff/bounties sits well with my playstyle, so I'm perfectly content to progress the 'natural' way.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I agree at least bosses could drop more, I just meant I agree that you're intended to buy gear.
MetalCaveman
All the legendary armour I have has been from legendary engrams, I'm only missing the Armada type 3 boots and then I'll have a full Vanguard armour set, I even have one of the Vanguard class armour things, also from a legendary engram. I also have a couple of legendary weapons from other factions, a shotgun from New Monarchy and a shotgun from the Crucible. I do wish strikes gave more marks, or that you could get more than 100 marks each week, seems like a silly way to keep you playing. Most of the legendary engrams have been from just running around completing patrol missions for bounties, or playing low level strikes, I got a couple while playing in the crucible, but those turned into blue armour. Strangelove
Cave got nerfed. All caves really. Enemies used to respawn every 6 seconds, now it's every 40 seconds. You also dont get shards from dismantling queen items. Honestly, I had all my slots filled with legendaries and exotics before others who used the loot cave. I played the game like normal and bought most of my shit. I wont miss the cave at all.
TheMightyEthan
I got two shards yesterday for dismantling the Queen's items. Have they nerfed it since then? *Edit* - Yeah, I haven't used the cave either, so whatever, it was lame and obviously going to be nerfed. TheMightyEthan
Here's a full patch list: http://www.bungie.net/7_Hot-Fix---09252014/en/News/News?aid=12190 Looks like they did nerf it since yesterday. lmao at the patch note though: The Hive of the holy “Treasure Cave” have realized the futility of their endless assault on Skywatch and have retired to lick their wounds and plan their next attack. *Edit* - They're also in the near future buffing exotics, and making some changes to the randomness of decrypting (though they aren't saying what exactly), plus a bunch of balance changes and adding opt-in voice to matchmaking: http://www.bungie.net/7_Destiny-Dev-Notes/en/News/News?aid=12188 Edited September 25, 2014 by TheMightyEthan
Hot Heart
Man, I was hanging out in the less exploit-y farming place on Venus -- Ishtar Sink? Where you go through the narrow library thing and into the area with 'pride rock' and find Fallen and Vex constantly going at it -- and shit got totally craycray. Usually, there's couple of vandals, a captain and two packs of dregs against a load of goblins and a couple of hobgoblins. All of sudden masses of each side swarmed the area and I was fighting off Reaver Captains, Disciple Goblins, Axel (?) Minotaurs. Basically, everything above the basic mob was a major and even the basic mobs were using beefier weapons. Eventually, it got too hot so I ran away to a safe distance, turned around and everyone just separated and vanished off to the doorways like, "That's enough fighting for today, toodlepip!"

TheMightyEthan
Yeah, every once in a while there will be a message that the enemies are assaulting each other or whatever, and then that happens. That's not the only place in the game, it also happens at Skywatch. I'm actually fairly upset about the Queen's equipment not giving ascendant materials anymore, I need shards so bad. Wish I'd done more runs of that while it was still working.
Strangelove
Im just glad theyre nerfing the goddamn shotgun. It's kind of ruining PvP for me. It's no-skill bullshit.
TheMightyEthan
The more I think about it the more irritated I am that the legendaries from the Queen's missions won't give ascendant mats anymore. That was my main incentive to do the missions, since I already have a full set of legendary armor.
Strangelove
Same here. I'll keep doing them so I can get the second shader, then I'm done with those.
Mal
Im just glad theyre nerfing the goddamn shotgun. It's kind of ruining PvP for me. It's no-skill bullshit. I haven't tried to use the shotgun for ranged kills but it seemed normal for me (I didn't mod it for long range though so there is that). You know what was bullshit (as far as games goes)? Battlefield BC2 shotgun with a slug. I counter sniped a sniper from across the map with one before. The bullet had barely any bullet drop so it was more or less point at the enemy pixel and shoot. Fucking glorious for me but I bet the other dude was fuming. For Destiny PvP, I have been using it the old fashion way. In your face full blast. If that doesn't do it, a melee to finish the enemy off. It's the same thing that I did in Halo 2.
CorgiShinobi
Going back to a previous post, as far as armor progression goes, for me it seems to go: Starter -> Found -> Bought -> Engram -> Found -> Bought Vanguard/Crucible/Faction -> Actually getting a Legendary from Cryptarch -> Exotic by whatever means -> Raid Gear above all others. The Queen's Wrath gear is really good, but if you've already invested in Legendary Armor of some sort, it was awesome to get ascendant material from dismantling them. Taking that away is ridiculously stupid and is frustrating that it furthers grinding for what areextremely rare material. On weapons, I agree on it all. I have a great Auto Rifle, but it's not my style. I've tried to use the Scout Rifle for PvP because of the Queen's Bounty, but it just doesn't hit hard enough. The Auto Rifle currently has good range, high rate of fire, actually decent stability when upgraded, and reload can be fast with armor and weapon bonuses. TheMightyEthan
That comic irritates me because it blatantly mis-characterizes what was going on. People may have liked the cave for the loot, but it wasn't "fun" in any reasonable sense of the word.
SomTervo
Yeah that is a shit comic haha Nobody was doin it be ause it was fun, everyone was doing it becuase they felt they HAD to in order to consistently get loot If anything it's the opposite of the comic. 'Shit no-ones having fun so let's try to fix it' even if they only did so in a half-assed way Edited September 26, 2014 by kenshi_ryden
Mr. GOH!
So that comic is bad because it mischaracterizes the loot cave as the only fun thing in the game when, in reality, it was just another unfun, but mroe efficient, exercise in the Skinner box button pressing that makes up the sum and whole of Destiny's gameplay? TheMightyEthan
No, when in reality it was not fun, and playing the game is fun.
SomTervo
Lol Yes they were basically not fun and that comic is saying that they were. Destiny's core gameplay loops are amazing and the environment is phenomenal, that's what really is fun about it.
Mal
Solid gameplay with the structuring of rewards that leaves something to be desired... not to mention the story. Why Bungie fucking separated a good deal of the lore into the Grimoire cards that can only be accessed on Bungie's website, I don't know. I was confused* what the fuck the Hive were in relation to the Fallen. All I knew were the Hive looked different than the Fallen and they fight each other. Then you had the Awoken race which I play as. Where the hell did I come in? The Grimoire cards explains/clarifies it all.*Another honorable mention is the part where you first talk to the Speaker during that cutscene. By looking at him, I knew he was important but I didn't know who the hell he was but now he's talking to me about being a goddamn hero that must fight the Darkness. the environment is phenomenal, The Hive places on the Moon man. It felt like I walked into Minas Morgul and I'm Maldalf the Black. I have yet to get to Mars, Venus or the Reef. I look forward to them. Strangelove
In case anyone hopes to get to level 30, don't use your ascendant materials on anything but raid armor. RAID armor is mandatory to be level 30.
