Connorrrr
I've not been posting much here, here's my progress. I started as a hunter, got her to 19. Then I decided to start a Titan and got that to 20. Now I'm watching some footage and think the warlock looks pretty awesome... Bah. I think I'm gonna stick with my titan for a bit and try and grind and get into the endgame stuff but I dunno what any of it is like and know more or less nothing about it. Destiny intrigues me like no other game. The shooting is great. I'm just not completely sold on the endgame yet. The grind and all that. But we'll see. TheMightyEthan
Welp, just did the raid for the first time (with a group from destinylfg.net), got 16 ascendant shards, a cloak and a shader. No actual equipment.

CorgiShinobi
I've officially shelf'd the game tonight. I don't feel very accomplished tonight other than drained and angry. The anger is more so at the PvP element as it has essentially gone to shit with teammates and the "I'm so MLG" opponents that have to teabag you if you ever killed them once. This isn't myself saying "get good" to others, but Control works in your favor if you control the point right beside you and WHY THE HELL ARE YOU RUNNING OFF! Yeah, I've been pretty salty as of late because I also loathe RNG. It did favor me the night before where I gained enough Ascendant Energy to max out Hawkmoon. I just don't like using it everywhere because my Grim Citizen III (an auto rifle) works wonders on mobs in PvE with the Spray and Play ability. Thing is, I still don't have an Exotic piece of armor. I don't use Gunslinger, so the Hunter helms the past two weeks haven't been my thing. I wish the first week Xur showed up I had been fortunate enough to have enough Strange Coin for Mask of the Third Man. So the last two weeks I've used my Motes of Light on the Exotic Engrams. Last week I got the Helm of Saint-14... I'm a Hunter. I didn't expect to do it this week, but I ended up with 22 out of 23 relatively quickly. The last Mote of Light didn't come easy because every damn blue engram I turned in gave me Rustburner armor and typical weapons. Funny, people would complain about getting Motes, but after 25 blue engrams you'd think one of them could have been a Mote. One strike I actually obtained two Legendary Engrams! Sweet, maybe I can get something a little better. Nah, just other class armor, but at least there are Ascendant Shards when dismantling. I'm at 58 shards now, but I don't want to waste them if armor I'd eventually replace. Thing is, I learned that you can't even get to Lv. 30 unless you get a Raid helm on the higher difficulty. With it being up to RNG and looking like the 100 hours I've put in would require even more time, well let me say I'll consider it. When the Expansion comes out because there's nothing else Destiny. Yeah, yeah, you gave me the Pocket Infinity exotic bounty and Thunderlord in Crucible tonight, but like hell I'll put in the effort to max out an Exotic Heavy Weapon and find X amount of Rare level Fusion Rifles. Hot Heart
I'm still enjoying the game, since it fits well into a 'casual play' approach. I mean, I can still hardline the game like I was the first two weeks, if I wanted, but right now I'll just hop on, do some "dailies" and work towards better gear or levelling up gear. I like that there's not so much pressure as with an MMO subscription, since the PS+ covers everything and more. It would be better if I could find people who play as regularly, and I might have some UK folks (friends of my cousin) to make that a reality. Really, I'm just working towards being as ready for the Raid and high level stuff as I can. At the moment, I'm simply farming for ascendant shards, which basically involves having alternate characters (I only have 1 other, but might start a Titan now I've got some exotics and legendaries for that) and going and doing a public event each day. Most of you probably know this anyway, but for those that don't, I'd recommend it, since you just need only to be level 9-10 and use this site to find a public event in the Cosmodrome: http://destinypublicevents.com/ Colour-coding is for likelihood of it happening, and it's usually helpful to have other Guardians in the area already, both for triggering one and achieving gold tier. Do that each day with a character, go to the Postmaster in the Tower and you should receive an ascendant shard for 'first gold tier public event of the day'. Three characters = three ascendant shards a day, with a chance at ascendent energy when the public event is completed as well.
TheMightyEthan
You don't even need to bother with that site, the Mothyards have an event every X:00 and X:30, and the Divide has one every X:15 and X:45. They're not even just a chance, they're guaranteed. Though those times are +/- 3 minutes, so you do need to show up a few minutes early to ensure you don't miss it. I've been using those two every morning to knock out my daily public events for all three characters in half an hour (7:00 AM, 7:15, 7:30). You're not guaranteed an ascendant shard from the postmaster anymore, now you have a chance for an ascendant shard, ascendant energy, or a mote of light. Though you also have a chance at either ascendant shards or energy when the event itself is completed (not guaranteed though). I think the best I've done for shards was 4 shards in one day across the three characters, but usually it's about 2.
Hot Heart
Sure, but I find the site useful if I want to tie it in with patrol mission bounties on a different planet with my main/a higher level character. Maybe I've just been lucky, because I've received an ascendant shard every single time. And while I'm here, some 'stuff' about the first expansion: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/73518812/0/0 I was going to make a big post about the lore stuff (pretty fascinating once you scratch the surface) but I'll probably leave that until later. TheMightyEthan
I finally got a Warlock class item that you can actually see!
Hot Heart
That's the one I would buy if I cared more about cosmetic stuff than actual gear, otherwise I'm just hoping I get it from an engram because it is the awesomest.
TheMightyEthan
I already had all legendaries on this character, other than the band.
CorgiShinobi
I can enjoy the game, just I'm at an endgame point where everything is a long grind. If I was really picky, I'd try to get Vanguard and New Monarchy up to Rank 3 (both currently at Rank 2). Heck, I could actually bother to upgrade to a better Sparrow once that happens as I don't care for the Crucible ones I could purchase. Then I notice half the PXoD clan has multiple characters. I never did mention my second Exotic Engram got me that Praxic Fire chest piece for Warlock. I was hoping for Alpha Lupi for my Hunter, but obviously that's a 16.7% chance of happening and even having armor for your class is 33.4%. Still, I got my cloak from the Speaker so not much else to spend Motes of Light on. Supposedly there will be an event in the future that will use Motes of Light for something like attempts at missions or whatever. P.S. Thunderlord is pretty good and definitely handles better than Super Good Advice.
TheMightyEthan
Super Good Advice has that nice feature that returns missed to the magazine though.
danielpholt
I'm still running with one character, although I'm really tempted to start playing as a Titan for a while; although I worry that with Bayonetta 2 and a few other games about to hit, I won't get a chance to play it that character up-to a worthwhile level. Also I finally got level 2 Vanguard stature. I don't know how it took me so long (I do - Patrol missions are boring).
TheMightyEthan
Bounties are the best way to get your rep up. Just yesterday I finally got my third character's rep up to 2 so I can buy armor.
SomTervo
Do you start at 0 or 1 in vanguard rep? I started doing Patrols with bounties on to achieve this. It's kinda fun. But I very nearly had a "fuck this, i'm officially shelving Destiny" moment too when I realised just how much time the game expects you to put in before you can afford some of the better gear. It's like, fuck that, I'm not spending 1-2 hours a day making 'money' and getting loads of vanguard rep/points so I can buy some stuff which will make really minor and arbitrary improvements to my character- with no improvement to my gameplay experience. 'Sake man.

CorgiShinobi
Eh, even after my "shelving this game" moment, I ended up playing it for an hour on Sunday night. All I can do is gain reputation for Vanguard and New Monarchy through bounties. Still have the last skill/perk for Gunslinger to level up too, but nothing crucial. Why bother telling you guys this? Well, when I was hurting for just one Mote of Light a few days ago and coming up empty-handed, within that single hour session I earned two Motes. It further proved to me you shouldn't rely too much on RNG. The odds are just too wacky, and while you'll have a lucky night, be aware it's the exception. For now, I have really shelf'd the game, not out of frustration, just not motivated to spend the time for earning reputation. But if we ever ended up doing a Raid I'd happily jump back on! Alex Heat
Had a hilarious round in the Crucible today where one of my teammates in Skirmish was only level 5 and the other was level 28. Level 28 guy probably sees this and quits out immediately because 'oh noes n00bs ruining muh gaems!'. What ends up happening is me and this guy slap around a team of upper level 20s enough that they all ragequit/forfeit.
TheMightyEthan
Probably somebody's alt.
CorgiShinobi
Yeah, probably an alt. So I picked up the game to prepare for Xur and gain Vanguard Rank 3 since I was so close. Got Rank 3, so now everything is going towards New Monarchy. Imagine my pure ecstatic nature when Xur is selling Crest of Alpha Lupi (Hunter)! It has all the additional perks I previously used, if not better (ALL Special Ammo capacity increased). Now I can revive and be revived faster, along with producing more Orbs of Light. That last one I always felt was lacking in the Hunter class with either Super.
Alex Heat
Yeah, I figured it was someone's alt, I'm just tickled pink that someone was assuming this wasn't the case and quit the match over it.
Mal
Alts are the reason why I don't look down upon low level people. That and if you know what you are doing, you can murder folks with just the basic weapons.
CorgiShinobi
I solo'd the Lv. 26 strike required for the Thorn bounty. It probably took me a whole hour with the deaths and final cheesing method, which as I learned isn't necessarily the best method now. I tried to reach the cliff people have found, but I couldn't nail the final jump and decided not to waste another five minutes. I switched my Bladedancer class to the invisibility trait to make the more aggressive enemies lose track of me. Though I have Thorn now, the best Exotic hands down for PvE is Icebreaker. I wouldn't have gotten through without that beautiful sniper rifle and its regenerating ammo. I only have two Exotic Bounties left, the Pocket Infinity and Invective bounties. Have to gather six more Fusion Rifles and complete a Weekly.
