Hot Heart
Yeah, just ran it again on my Hunter, MUCH easier this time. We find the trick is to run to the far left side and hunker down behind there. As long as you make sure to keep an eye on the adds to the left and right (as well as the odd cheeky bastard who jumps straight over) you should be fine. From there, you can pick at the boss' shield (or just peek over with a shotgun) then get everyone to pile on the damage until he re-ups the shield. My regular fireteam's got into a habit of doing all three characters on a Tuesday: Nightfall then PoE 32, then switch weapons. With the burns on the Nightfall it was great to be able to nuke that Cabal guy to down him in under 10 seconds. Got everything done in under two and a half hours including breaks. Oh, and yeah, with the legendary and exotic engrams, I've always figured they were weighted towards the class that decrypts them because that tended to be how it seemed. Of course, immediately after I told someone this, I did three exotic engrams which gave me items for the other two classes... TheMightyEthan
Bungie just announced a promotion with Redbull where each can of Redbull you drink gets you a 30-minute 50% XP boost, and you can also unlock an exclusive "epic quest". http://i.imgur.com/KWMlKwB.gifv
CorgiShinobi
The Red Bull promotion has been known for a while. It was the leak that gave us the name "The Taken King." What sucks is that the promotion is terribad and is definitely in league with previous Activision prompted promotions. Hell, I would say it's worse than those promotions for Call of Duty. On one hand, I understand that this is devised as a reoccurring purchase model for Red Bull. If they were giving out permanent rewards, most players would buy a Red Bull 4 Pack and call it good. If you had put the rewards on RNG, you'd see pissed off players because RNG has always been the double-edged sword to Destiny's reward system. It wasn't until House of Wolves that the burden was mostly lifted with Reforging and increase in Legendary drops. On the other hand, the XP boost works like a weapon telemetry, and suffice it to say, 30 minutes isn't always the ideal time frame to grind for XP. If this was the best alternative, they should have made it a 12 hour time frame. The only catch is that with that you'd probably have the more hardcore players level up most of their gear with the XP boost from one can of Red Bull. TheMightyEthan
I knew the promotion was already known, it's the details of it that are hilarious.
Eleven
Was about to go to sleep, but decided I should try the level 28 Prison. So I did. And I got a Gally (gjally? jelly?)! An hour later I can't stop smiling thinking about it. Destiny's loot gods have been kind to me since I started. Hopefully it continues! Now about that etheric light... Why do I have to be 34 to get it, when I need it to be 34? I need to get some sleep! Edited June 30, 2015 by Eleven
TheMightyEthan
Come tomorrow, when Variks gets the boots, I'll be able to get all three of my characters to 34. It'll be the first time I've been at the level cap since the game released. And I still don't have a Gally. *Edit - but yeah, the situation with Etheric Light is dumb. Eleven
Got my hunter to 34 as well with the boots. Damn ugly boots though.
TheMightyEthan
The boots are the only part I don't mind, but I think the helmet and arms are hideous.
Mr. GOH!
Modern video games: it's like playing dolly dress-up, but with lots of numbers involved!
TheMightyEthan
I've said before that in RPGs the gear I wear is determined 25% by the stats and 75% by the appearance.
Mr. GOH!
Mine's 75/25 in SP games, though I think in a competitive multiplayer game I'd focus entirely on the effectiveness rather than appearance, assuming the game or character build puts significant importance on armor stats. Hot Heart
I'm actually pretty pleased with my Hunter and Warlock appearances for general stuff. It's just that the PoE gear has some real fugly pieces, but you'd really want them to face the harder challenges. I tend to forego the gloves because I don't necessarily need 'increased reload speed' with special weapons when I could have it for different primary weapons (scout rifle and hand cannon these days) so I ascend those instead. Right now, I'm gearing up to face the 35 PoE. This week, I guess if I can get my vs. Fallen buff stuff up, it should see me through.
Eleven
So Xur is selling exotic helmet engrams for the 3rd straight week. This is what I got last week, trying my luck for The Ram: Arachnid (Hunter), Symbiote, Saint-14, The Glasshouse, Light Beyond Nemesis. Ok, so cool, I got Symbiote and Saint-14. Light Beyond Nemesis looks really cool, but I kinda don't dig the perks. Oh well. This week, as he's selling it for the 3rd time, which is a sign that I SHOULD BE BUYING THEM! I got Arachnid, Saint-14, The Glasshouse, Light Beyond Nemesis, and another Arachnid. Ugh. Maybe next week then... if he's selling them again... The Ram is damn ugly but that perk is awesome. Lifesteal! ALL THE TIME! My Voidwalker needs an exotic too.
Hot Heart
Light Beyond Nemesis can be good for Prison of Elders if you haven't got much else. I'm in the same boat, but trying to get Celestial Nighthawk. Got three Rams and all sorts of Titan helmets across three weeks, with just one unrequired Hunter helm, despite decrypting as my Hunter. EDIT: Score! Just got it. Edited July 11, 2015 by Hot Heart

TheMightyEthan
So the last thing I needed to do to finish out The Dark Below on my last character was the Will of Crota strike. It was easier than I expected.
Hot Heart
Heh, I had that same thing happen where I joined as the boss died and got 'complete a strike without dying' plus 'kill whoever it was'. It was the Mars strike as well, so saved me a lot of hassle.
Eleven
Went to Trials today! Got to 5-1 before one of us had to bail out. This was on our 3rd trials card. The most satisfying thing was a comeback from 4-2, on The Cauldron map, against a team who had gone flawless before (they were using the trials emblem). Thorn users. And who were tea-bagging us on every round loss. Fuck them! Didn't finish the card, but got my hunter boots though!
Hot Heart
Actually put some time into Iron Banner this week and got the things I wanted (shader and chestpiece) so now I'm happy with how badass I look. I was actually doing pretty well, considering I hardly touch PvP. Sure, I'm using Thorn for most games but then so is 90% of the playerbase, it seems. Just helps when it's so friggin' laggy. I am torn between PvP exotic pieces though. I used to use voidfang vestments because spawning with a seeking grenade usually guarantees a kill, even if it is post-mortem. However, I am really digging The Ram, because that extra bit of armour plus having life steal on all melees can really tip things over the edge when it gets chaotic. The number of times I've survived hardcore scraps, where I'm clinging to a bit of health but took out 3-4 guys is awesome. You can even see me survive a Titan getting in the first punch just past the two minute mark here:
SomTervo
Welp. [As of Taken King,] Players earn XP by killing monsters, completing missions, and turning in bounties, as has always been the case, but that experience now feeds directly into your level progression all the way from 1 to the new level cap of 40. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/08/04/destiny-the-taken-king-redesigns-leveling-from-one-to-forty-4682.aspx Couple of other nice details. It now factors in the loot you've already got when doing its RNG thing for drops, so you'll be far more likely to get new stuff with far less grinding. On the one hand, fucking yes, I'm back in... On the other hand... It should have been like this in the first place. I'm still very bitter about how they designed the whole thing and how much time I wasted on it.

Hot Heart
I am confused. I could've sworn I already collected a Judgment's Package from Variks the other day (since I haven't done anything to earn rep with him since two weeks ago) but there was another one waiting for me that straight up gave me an etheric light...
