Bad News Hot Heart

The two codes I had... only one worked. I'm not surprised because for anyone guessing codes, they really are predictable. The one that didn't work was XXT444MM, whereas the one that worked was CW7W74X7. So yeah, it's true that these codes favor X, 4, and 7.

I'll grab myself two more because a promise is a promise, and they're not that expensive at 7-Eleven.  ;)

I finally got Khepri's Sting yesterday from a Xur engram.  I'd been waiting for him to either carry it outright or at least have arm engrams, and he finally did.  Was a bit worried because I only had enough Motes of Light to buy like 9 engrams, but I got it on the second one so everything worked out.

  • 2 weeks later...

Waiting forever for the 18gb 2.0 update, which changes a whole heap of shit. Auto rifles are back in for PvE, heck yeah!

In the meantime, this dude is streaming the new "questification" of the story mode, including Nolan North ghost. Currently showing off a new patrol mission which is a sort of checkpoint race.

And in more interesting news, the armory on Bungie's site now features all the forthcoming stuff with all the exotic weapons and gear and class items.

Mine should be done.  It had 74 minutes left when I left home to come back to work at lunch (it had been downloading for ~30 mins at that point).  Headed home now.

*Edit - Also, was trying to do the weekly heroic when the thing went live:

:(  I had a couple of bounties I'd finished on that run but hadn't yet gotten to turn in.  Now they're lost to the ether...

Initial impressions on update 2.0: I'm liking it.

From a weapon perspective, auto rifles are now worthwhile in PvE again. I even ascended my old shadow price, my first ever legendary chestpiece (my "browncoat") and my long-serving auto rifle reload gloves for kicks. Bad Juju also became a lot more fun as well.

In Crucible (although, I don't have tons of experience), pulse rifles are the new king, handcannons have been toned down just enough and auto rifles still seem fairly useless due to crap range drop-off. I used to slay with my shadow price but now it just can't do shit and at the range it's effective, you might as well being using a shotgun.

I'm not really fond of rift (probably because it also takes some getting used to the new maps) but I had a go at clash on Bannerfall (tower map) and that was really cool; lots of up 'n' over bits, flanking opportunities, etc. and it favours the more long-range weaponry without being too open for camping snipers (like that moon map, First Light, I think?)

In other regards, I like all the tweaks and things. Tracking quests, hearing/seeing when your weapon perks trigger, etc.

I'm not too sure about how they've redone the light level stuff. It'll take some proper hands-on with TTK to get the full view of it, but I'm not liking how class items have armour stats as well as having even your weapon quality affect your light level. They've taken away that need to wear faction items (but made it cost something to initiate/change and you can only change once per week...) but then it looks like they're restricting your choices for min/maxing purposes.

Which also reminds me that I don't like how the int/dis/str stuff is now tiered. While it makes it more understandable for cooldowns (why couldn't that information be shown before anyway?) it's frustrating to see yourself 1 or 2 points off a different tier thanks to bad stat rolls and things like that. However, they have narrowed the stat ranges so that shouldn't be as significant a factor.

Overall, though, it looks like a step in the right direction and they've finally got a decent fucking suite of shader options.

Yeah, I think it's good changes for the most part, but I'm not a fan of your class item having armor stat on it either.  I feel like the class item is supposed to be a vanity piece, and by putting an armor stat on it they've made it so you can't just pick the one you like the look of best.

The important question is: Are you on #TeamDinklebot (aka monotone robot) or #TeamNolanbot (aka whiny child)?

I ordered the Digital Collector's Edition and got the exotic class items. It sucks that you can't wear them and wear an exotic armor piece. So I imagine even though the thing looks cool and special (since I bought it with real money!!!), I won't even be wearing it at all. The titan class item even gives you a burning hammerhead-like thing, which is cool.

The class items decisions they made are quite baffling. I really want to know the reason behind those two issues: 1) Exotic Class Items considered an armor piece, and 2) class items having stats. It's weird.

I think the real problem with Ghost is the writing/voice direction. One minute he's knowingly wry and sarcastic whereas the next he'll be full of awe and surprise; seems like a tough thing to manage with somewhat clunky lines. Dinklage excels at the former, Nolan can do the latter.

The "We've woken the Hive!" line illustrates this, as Dinklage seemed to be panicked whereas Nolan sounds more "curious"

I've not had enough experience with Nolanbot, but Dinklebot had grown on me somewhat. Nolanbot sounds just like more of Bungie's floaty AI orbs. I think the dialogue could've done with a touch up, really.

I think it's a indication of the writing troubles at the heart of Destiny. It wants to present this grand, serious narrative of wonder, discovery and "becoming legend" but it also wants the humour and lightheartedness, yet hasn't quite found the right balance.

I think direction is the issue.  Watching a comparison video I found myself preferring Dinklage half the time and North half the time.  That said, the vast majority of Dinklage's performance was perfectly fine, there were just a few really bad lines.  Hopefully it's better with the new TTK dialogue.

I'm not sure I like what they did to my precious Handcannons. This is definitely a big tweaking of the weapons, and I swear Fusion Rifles are absolutely useless now. I know people didn't really use them for some time, but I could do some serious damage with Plan C and a few others on different characters. That Hakke Fusion Rifle at the Gunsmith is really good, but I've been using Plan C and I can't get kills like I use to with it.

People have been using Hardlight now, and while it has vastly improved, I don't really think it's some killer weapon now. Bad Juju is what I'm rolling with, but that's mainly because I have to compensate for the sudden increase in the cooldowns. I'm so use to grenades, melee, and Supers coming quickly, but all our armor is gimped to where you're going to have to look into new armor, or upgrading something.

Just look at your Frontier Ghost Shell even. It use to be called the Vanguard shell, but anyway, the thing only offers 3 points. In comparison, if you get one of the new shells, they're somewhere around 142 points!

Also, hold off on doing any quests until Taken King is officially out. I guess there are suppose to be emblems for each subclass quest, but if you do them now, you only get the class item. Don't know if Bungie will make ammends later on, but right now I only have the Bladedancer Cloak. I also got the Digital Collector's Edition upgrade, and while the Exotic cloak counts as your Exotic armor, I'll still use it to help level up the Nightstalker class much more quickly.

So, this is a pretty cool feature. Obviously, it's not video of you, but it pulls a bunch of your most "impressive" metrics and celebrates them along with giving you some titles.

Here's my main Warlock one. I had no idea I had that many kills with The Last Word. I know I loved it when it first came out, but didn't realise I was that hooked. :P

Funny thing is, I've killed Skolas more times with my titan simply because I was doing the elder cipher stuff.

Yeah, TLW was my biggest exotic too, really surprised me at first, until I realized that TLW and Thorne are the only two primary exotics I've used for any length of time.  Most of the time I have an exotic secondary or heavy, which obviously don't see as much use.
