I start to get to grips with it then I go full Jon Snow. WTF are Legendary marks? Why do I have a fancy purple gun with pants stats that is banging on about ascending? WTF is ascending? What is arc and solar damage? Why is none of this explained anywhere???

Legendary Marks are used to purchase legendary equipment from vendors, as well as infusing Year Two legendary weapons and armor.  There is a wallet cap of 200 on Legendary Marks, so if you get close to that you need to spend some.

The fancy purple gun with pants stats that's banging on about Ascending is probably a Year One legendary gun.  Base game guns maxed out at what I believe now would be 150 attack (TTK changed attack ratings), and then by HoW the max was 170, so ascending lets you bring Year One stuff up to 170.  It's still pants compared to Year Two equipment, so I wouldn't bother.  With Year Two equipment rather than ascending you can infuse the equipment with another piece of equipment of the same type (primary weapon, chest armor, etc) that has a higher light rating.  Infusing will increase the infused equipment's light level by 80% of the difference in light level with the higher rated equipment, while consuming the higher rated equipment.  Infusing only works if both pieces of equipment are Year Two.

Arc damage (blue) is electric damage, solar damage (red/orange) is fire damage, void damage (purple) is space magic damage.  Some enemies have shields, and the shields have an elemental type.  So an arc shield is weak to arc damage, etc.  Each player subclass also has an element, which you can tell by the color.  So for instance your Voidwalker subclass that you love is a void subclass (obviously), meaning your super, grenades, and melee all do void damage.

Pretty solid investigative piece by Jason Schreier. It was painfully obvious that something went very wrong behind the scenes of Destiny but it's fascinating to finally have some specifics on exactly what.

Turns out that the higher ups at Bungie were unhappy with the story and scrapped/rebooted the whole thing a little over a year before the game's initial launch. Kind of insane...

Been lurking on the forum at work when on breaks. Finally some time to post a lil' something.

I got my Chaperone with the help of one other Guardian matchmade in the Strike. We only wiped once and that was after we killed one of the brothers with a shotgun. The second attempt we both realized that we could just target the other brother and be done.

We killed both brothers and finished the strike. Insta-friends. Well, haven't talked to this person yet, but you gotta respect someone who has the skill and tolerance to get through a Level 42 strike on a two-man fireteam. There was a third, but he left after I joined a minute into the strike. Maybe didn't realize I was there as I had to run to their current location where you first fight the Cabal in the ship and before the tank.

Anyway, love the shotgun because it's a fun weapon. Not a killer like that No Time To Explain.

I like the little in-jokes and nods too. Like wearing an Atheon mask and "tripping" off the tower (before it was fixed, in the Vault of Glass raid, people found an exploit whereby a certain grenade could be used to "push" the final boss off a platform, killing him instantly).

I sort of like them, but at the same time, I've seen a couple of Year1 Elitists get snooty at people who don't get the references. They're a tiny minority though so it's not impacting my enjoyment.

It's sort of an internet rant, but I really don't get the need to criticise people who are late to a franchise. To me, if I meet someone who hasn't seen a film I love, or doesn't get a pop culture reference, I get excited as I get to share that first time experience and recapture it a little for myself.

Yeah, I'd like to say it's not that common but the Destiny forums seem to be full of the biggest crybabies and arseholes around... <_<

On the plus side, my cousin found a clan full of some of the nicest people who seem to be on nearly every day helping newbies through the raids and such. I've got a regular group through it (which is mainly a blessing, but also a curse because I want to get a raiding group with other friends and you guys going).

Ha, no. I'd try and help you at some point, but you really need at least 5 of you and I'm not sure about timing. That Destiny LFG site should find you some people as many need to run it again for an exotic weapon quest.

I did it last week and it was hilariously easy (level 40s at 300+ light doing level 26 content); much easier than I expected as well. We absolutely melted Atheon in just a single run thanks to black spindles and sleeper simulants and touch of malices...malicii...maloose.

On that subject, I (and a regular fireteam friend) helped a friend with whom I'd never played before get the black spindle from yesterday's daily heroic. Took us three tries (like last time) but we nailed it on the final go; trick is having someone really focus on taking out the blights asap (there are 3 waves of them at the end) otherwise it's difficult even just to get a shot at the boss.

Nope, no matchmaking.

Which is, always was, and always will be fucking retarded for a game that's entirely multiplayer focused.  I don't care what bullshit excuse Bungie uses.  I never got to do Vault of Glass (and never will) because I never had the right combination of time and friends to make it happen. I don't have the time, patience, or interest to try to endear myself to a bunch of strangers.  Fuck Bungie and their "just go make friends" shit.

Yeah, I know I'm salty, but God forbid I buy I a multiplayer game and expect to be able to do all the multiplayer content.  The game barely had any as it was.

It's bad enough trying to do heroic strikes with randoms, since you'll usually get at least one dick who isn't actually doing anything. On a raid it would be a huge pain in the arse.

You could probably find a US clan who boast about "sherpa-ing" people through raids and such, with people on at all hours. There's one in the UK, which is the one my cousin found, but they don't have many US members.

Touches of malice.

Sleeper stimulants.

Yeah, the raids would be impossible with matchmade people (at least until more content comes out that raises the level cap well above the raid level).  At least going through LFG you get people who are more invested in it, and can make sure everyone has mics.

What they need to do is build a system like LFG into Destiny itself.

I also think that now that the level cap is so much higher they should add matchmaking to VoG and Crota, because with people at level 40 you probably could do them with a matchmade group no problem.
