TheMightyEthan
As long as you're in an area that's appropriately leveled for you the only patrols that should be difficult are the ones to clear an area of taken, because the boss for those is level 40.
deanb
Oh they're not difficult, as in the particular "Patrol" beacon thingy for the Energy Spike never seems to actually appear anywhere. So I've the full quest complete for just one bit that I can't do simply cos it's not popping up on the map to let me even start it. Â I have however hit my first difficult part, being this "Fist of Krota" dude.
TheMightyEthan
Oh, I see what you mean, yeah IIRC I had a lot of trouble finding the right beacons for that quest too.
Hot Heart
So are Patrols meant to be nigh impossible to complete? Got this "Energy Spike" thing to do and best I can tell it's a newish part of the game and rare to pop up in the patrols. Â Most patrols should be easy. The icon for each tells you what it's going to be. Energy Spike has a sort of > inside a circle (I think it's meant to be a crude stopwatch). For those, you'll find them on Venus, around the Citadel area is probably the best place (they're also on the Dreadnaught but... yeah, you won't be getting there just yet). They might be in other places but Venus is your best bet for finding them. Â Here's a video of how to get to The Citadel and spot one: (They might also appear in that Ember Caves area they go through as well) Â Here's a basic guide to most patrol beacons. Â The ones to avoid right now are the ones Ethan mentioned (which will have a skull on them) and the VIP ones (because they also feature level 40 enemies now). What I tend to do is favour the Kill and Item ones first because the rest (Survey, Scan and VIP) are likely to take you to another area. Â Also, this is a very useful site for spotting public events. Completing one of those is actually part of that Refer-a-friend quest.
deanb
Ah. I'd been under the impression the Patrol thing was tied to locations, so I'd been going round cirlces in Russia. Not long had Venus unlock so I'll be there soonish. Â Just had OkayOctane join me (not sure if folks remember him). Was odd at first cos I was doing a mission and a Dreg in front of me explodes despite me not hitting him, turn around n there's Octane joining me for the ride. So we did a Strike together too (the "take out the servitor" thing). Â Played some Crucible. I've a mission to do a daily playlist match, but I can't find that. Did some bounties there too (though the "finish in top 3" and "kill 5 without dying" are both beyond my reach at the moment.) Â Oh now have the other subclass (sunsinger I think?) unlocked, buuuuttt it's a PITA to level up as you start with much less skills. I guess the idea is you jump back to earlier locations and re-do those missions?

Not long had Venus unlock so I'll be there soonish. Â They used to be randomly-generated across all areas, but the newer patrol missions are only for specific places. I guess you can't go racing a Sparrow around all the areas, and I don't think Taken appear in patrol on the Moon because the Hive already control it. Â The Daily Crucible is an activity down to the bottom-left of the planet selection screen; second icon in from the left, I believe. Should be a red circle. It cycles through different game modes each day and awards you 15 legendary marks for participating. You might have a blank space or greyed out space to the right of it, which will be where the Daily Heroic Story Mission pops up. This cycles through story missions, making them "heroic" difficulty (very hard), so they won't be available for you yet. Â Once you get to the higher levels you'll be using legendary marks for buying legendary gear and infusing it to get higher levels, so those are a good source for that each day. No need to worry about that for the moment, though.
deanb
Â Did my daily Crucible. Had a fun moment where I managed to sneak up on all my duckies lined up in a row and Nova Bomb them. Got a trophy for killing a Titan, Warlock n Hunter in PvP without dying too cos of it. Â edit: oh n we won in the end.

TheMightyEthan
So now they're selling level boost packs to get your character to level 25... for £25.  That's just... wow...  http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-12-15-destiny-launches-level-boost-packs-priced-25  I can't find the packs on the US store, apparently they're EU only atm. Hot Heart
Finished the final of the three challenge modes in the hard raid, yay! Â This one was actually pretty interesting, and we should've managed it much sooner but our group's weakest link let us down right at the end of one run... then we had all sorts of little mistakes until we got right to the end again... and someone got disconnected. ARRRRGH! Â It's done now though. Can focus on sparrow racing, which I both like but also really fucking hate. >=/
deanb
Sparrow racing is like a poor mans Wipeout, but it's pretty serviceable. My only major issue is that on one of the tracks there's foliage n stuff in the way which if you go to close to it has a habit of making your sparrow go all funky until the game catches up and applies damage to you and kills you. Only happens in the racing on the one track (I think venus), never had the same issue in main game (though Moon has plenty of "fun" spots where it's not clear your sparrow shouldn't go until it pops up with "5...4...3...2...1" and kills you from "misadventure" (hence my complaint other day on lack of any usable map in-game). Â Had to google what Radiance did (which "what does Radiance actually do?" is the second result for "Radiance destiny") and once I did it got much more useful. I hadn't noticed it had vastly increased my recharge on grenades n melee. Â On that front, I'm now lvl 30 and starting to get drops that are fairly similar in Light level, but varying Dis/Int/Str between them so I've started getting PvP n PvE builds now too (mainly use scout in PvE and grenades so stuff that improves n reduces cooldown on those, and auto-rifle n fist n super in PvP so stuff to cooldown those).
deanb
Now level 40, with 250 light (which I'm to understand is not low, but not super high either). A lot of my higher gear is actually from doing the Sparrow League Tried a Daily Heroic thing, and yeah it was hard, then near the end nigh impossible so gave up on that. Had played a House of Wolves quest which in one area (has like these glowing points the Fallen are setting up you have to destroy. Vex location) I carried on just being killed by "The Architect" and looking it up online seems to be a case of "when the game bugs out n kills you". So I quit that mission too, gonna retry later today.  I've joined Future Water Cult too. Also did some Prison Of The Elders stuff which is fun. Is that the only one of its kind set up at the moment? Cos like there's other folk wanting like Crota's Bane rank n similar and I can't figure out once the quests are done how you rack that up, unless it's literally a case of redoing those missions over n over.  Found out Crucible matches end early if you absolutely destroy the opposing team too  edit: knew there was a question I wanted to ask: How do some folks have swords? The Daily Heroic versions of the HoW story missions onwards do tend to be tougher. The one you mentioned sounds like yesterday's, which gets really tough at the end unless you know a decent spot of cover and have great gear/a fireteam. Today's is fairly easy, just catches you out because it has a time limit at the end which normal difficulty never had.  Ranking up is a long and arduous process, especially for Queen's Wrath and House of Judgment now that TTK is out. Crota's Bane was also a lot simpler, but TTK contributes towards it somewhat.  Queen's Wrath is now very slow because they no longer have loads of bounties at The Reef like they used to. In fact, you have to unlock them again by doing a few quests first, and then there's only 3 a week. Also gone are a special House of Wolves public event that popped up all over the place and helped. This thing.  Like Queen's Wrath, Crota's Bane used to have a bunch of bounties from Eris as well, but people were doing those mainly to get shaders and the item needed to upgrade a particular weapon or to convert one raid material into the other one for upgrading weapons or armour. Long story short: you don't need to care about that anymore. You could get a 300 light class item from Eris as a package reward (as well as hadium flakes, which is related to a single exotic raid-related weapon) once you're above rank 3 but not really worth focusing on.  House of Judgment comes almost entirely from doing PoE, which is what people used to do a lot in order to reach max level before TTK. Getting up to rank 2 at least (even rank 1 might be okay) gets you a package from Variks each week, that will contain destination materials (spinmetal, relic iron, etc.) as well as maybe etheric light (which can now be turned in for rep) and tokens (for shaders, ships after a certain rank... or just dismantled for rep).  Level 28 PoE is the easy matchmade version; 30 and 32 is a rotating list of five different designed challenges (e.g. the final boss from 32 becomes the boss for 30 the next week) and the level 34 is a second showdown with Skolas being the "raid-equivalent" endgame before TTK. It's fun for just messing about but there's not much point doing it unless you have a bunch of treasure keys (for the big chest at the end) and are hunting for the three PoE-exclusive exotics (which are all currently at year 1 attack values).  Either way, Queen's Wrath (Petra), Crota's Bane (Eris) and House of Judgment (Variks) rep really aren't that important anymore.  Yeah, the Mercy rule in Crucible is new. Time-saving for dailies where the other team is literally just there to get their 15 legendary marks.  Swords are a new TTK thing. If you've unlocked Prison of Elders, then you must be ready for The Taken King. Work through that and you'll see.
CorgiShinobi
Think of "Killed by the Architects" as physics based deaths. You see this because Destiny's physics are rather elastic. When a Phalanx (Cabal w/ shield) bashes you with it shield and you instantly fly into a rock across the map. Â Misadventure is stuff like falls, explosions, and suicide. Crucible will usually give credit to the last person who damaged you if you end up killing yourself.
deanb
 Sounds like we need to get a group up for running Vault of Glass, Crota's End and Skolas' Revenge.  I'm kicking around until Wednesday afternoon (technicality could do stuff through PSTV, but not sure a MP game would be one of them ) if folks want to do anything?
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, there's too much latency on PSTV to play anything as twitchy as Destiny. Â Even Fallout is on the edge of what's really playable with it.

deanb
Trying to do the Iron Banner stuff and one of the bounties I have is like 50 primary kills, 25 specials, and 13 Heavy weapon. First two are easy enough, the latter however.... So far I'm at 4. Combo of having to be alive and near a heavy weapon crate when they arrive, combined with then being able to actually get a shot on someone. Is Iron Banner always control cos that'd definitely help if it would change. (quite often I'm alive when heavy weapon crate loads up, but I'm capturing a point). Â Got my first Armsday too. I hadn't fully understood it last week so got a naf weapon, but this week should get things more relevant to my needs. Currently eyeing up a new Ghost shell too, since otherwise I'd easily be just shy of 300 light.
Hot Heart
That is a "week-long" bounty you're meant to chip away at, so 4/13 is pretty good progress for the first couple of days. I usually find myself in the same situation as you and always missing the heavy ammo (hence, why I've still not even done the 25 sword kills in crucible bit of the exotic sword quest). Honestly, the amount of people you can kill with heavy (or the amount of easy kills you might give the other team) it's probably worth foregoing a cap just to make sure you get it. The number of times I've died just before it comes up and spawned far away though... argh! Â Iron Banner is always Control... except for last time when they tried out Clash. It was probably better as Control, since they had a bounty they never adjusted which was "Win with 2500 points" and that is a bitch to get in Clash (although, I did manage it but the fucking thing was bugged because I'd held the bounty from days before). I think Control is better for team-building and you can get some surprise turnarounds, but there are so many idiots who try and capture all three zones, ruining everything for your team. Â I usually leave playing Iron Banner until the weekend because there is a reputation boost that increases as the week goes on (starts at like 10% and goes up to 200% or something insane). Either way, you can hold those golden weekly bounties until Sunday/Monday then turn them in and fly through the ranks. That said, being a higher rank earlier on should net you better endgame drops... Â I might actually skip doing it this time because there's nothing I really want. I already have all the IB gear and it's easier to get 320 light gear from doing the raid challenges now. Â I've still got a nightfall to do if you want to give that a crack when Ethan's on or something. There's a slim chance that'll get you something useful... deanb
I've a Nightfall to do too. I'm pretty free over next few days. Â (also I'm now at 11/13 heavy kills) Â edit: 1: What'd you mean on the "so many idiots who try and capture all three zones" thing? 2: 13/13 Edited December 30, 2015 by deanb
CorgiShinobi
Popped on to explain. Since the early days of Destiny, the only viable strategy to win Control is to either control A and B, or B and C. If you try to get greedy 95% of the time you'll get slaughtered and the opposing team will move on B. Also, if people begin moving towards A/C, it flips the spawns and the opposing team begins capping your spawn zone. Â So Control is really just maintain two zones and get kills while defending B.
deanb
https://www.bungie.net/en/Legend/PGCR?instanceId=4452013831&characterId=2305843009358174590 Â Kinda bummed/pissed off that I didn't manage to get a video (PS4 bugged and only saved 9 seconds of video, which is mostly the match end screen), but managed to get 10 kills in one life on Crucible which I'm pretty chuffed about. Was like "how am I still alive, how is everyone dying, oh god what's wrong...there's not even 10 people on the other team!". IIRC I died while reloading. Got like 6 Crucible bounties in one match too (had a couple kicking around cos I'm not super brilliant, was funny cos I picked up todays "5 kills in one life" and figured that'd stick around for a good week until I fluke). Â btw I'm up for forming a fireteam thingy to do a nightfall at some point (also maybe some help with the witches in cosmodrome story mission and paradox one too cos I don't do too well with them). I'm on most evenings (though probably less soon since back to work, and also doing more biking n shiz), and Fri n Sat can do late nights with americans.
CorgiShinobi
Gotta thank you Dean for reminding me Bungie has those stats on the website. I finished Iron Banner today by completing only one match today. It was, without a doubt, one of my best Crucible games in Destiny. Â And my HDD is still full so I couldn't save the video... At least my new drive is coming this Tuesday. Â So I took a screenshot, at least. But with the stats on Bungie, I have further proof of how amazing the match was. Â https://www.bungie.net/en/Legend/PGCR?instanceId=4455636966&characterId=2305843009217421987 Â Went in on the losing side, something like 2:1 in points. First seven kills earned me a Phantom, a.k.a. Seven Kills and No Damage Taken. Couldn't believe it, I've only every done that once and that was because of a Machine Gun. This time I only used Hawkmoon. Â The whole time I thought we'd lose anyway, but eventually we all ended up even with only 1000 points to go on each side. I landed a Shadow Shot on a Gunslinger who just popped his Golden Gun and was aiming at my teammates to get the final points for his team to win. I wish this was recorded because I ran, jumped over them, and landed my shot dead center. Honestly, I think if it weren't for the fact my teammates were accidental behind cover, the Gunslinger would have shot a second sooner.
