I do not understand why this surprised anyone. A new game means new, or at least changed and rebalanced classes built upon what the developers learned from the first fame. I mean, it's not just an expansion with an increased level cap.

And of course the publisher won't let anything you bought with real money transfer because they either don't want to remake the same stuff for 2 or they want to sell it to you again for money because you are a sucker, as evidenced by the fact you bought microtransaction cosmetic shit in a game that cost $60 in the first place.

Based on the way Bungie had initially presented the game I had assumed it would be more like WoW expansions than really separate games.  I knew my equipment would be obsoleted because there would be newer, better stuff, but I didn't think that it would go away altogether.

That said, it doesn't actually bother me, because like I said I knew my gear would be immediately obsolete anyway, and I never bought any of the real money stuff.  The only things I'm a little sad to be losing are my emblems that I got for doing various things (like the Year 1 Moments of Triumph, etc).  And there really is no reason why those couldn't carry over, since they have absolutely zero gameplay effect and are just a background for your username.

As the person here who has probably spent the most time with the game, I actually don't mind them wiping the slate clean on some stuff. As in, being tied down too much by old weapons, gear and things like that. While keeping things like WoW expansions might've been neat, it definitely feels like the whole thing could use a bit of a refresh. I'm really hoping they've expanded the classes a bit so it is more MMO/RPG-like... and made it 4-person fireteams, you fuckers.

However, yeah, it is bad not to carry forward emotes, emblems and shaders. That said, maybe they're just switching to a free RGB selection thing and allowing more customisation than with shaders. And maybe you can build/design your own emblems? I think something needs to be done for the emotes though.

I'm vaguely with Ethan, there being a "Destiny 2" kind of shocked me in a way. I'd figured that like most 10 year MMOs it'd be expanded through...well expansions, rather than doing a hard cut sequel. See: World of Warcraft 2, 3, 4 and..oh wait. I'd hope that if they're not carrying over paid stuff that they don't reinclude the same things again as it's just dirty double dipping.

And yeah, be nice to see more MMO-ness to it. Especially there being just the two "towns" in the game.

Well at least they've included a (hamfisted) reason for why all your Destiny 1 gear gets scrapped. And always nice to have a bit more Lance Reddick. Seems they're playing up Cayde a lot though, not 100% sure if I'm keen on it.

Also the box art is out and as I've mentioned on Twitter it has three figures on the front and they're all human despite their being three playable races

Obviously we were on vacation and left all our stuff at home. When we boot up Destiny 2 for the first time, our character will be equipped with a t-shirt saying, "I visited The Last City and all I got was this lousy t-shirt."

I also thought it a wasted opportunity to slap three humans on the cover. Having an Exo and Awoken alongside a human to represent the three races of the three classes. Even for those new to Destiny walking the retail aisle would find it more interesting seeing a humanoid robot and glowing indigo person next to a human.

PC Version exclusively on battle.net :P

Yeah, that's a surprising move. I mean, not entirely but if it was something they wanted to do you'd think they would've done it with Call of Duty by now but nope.

I have no issue with the Blizzard launcher but I'm not particularly interested in Destiny either, so all this really does for me is make me less likely to impulse buy it during a sale lol.

What? Why would they do that? All their games run through it. Maybe you're thinking of them phasing out the name "Battle.net"? The launcher was renamed to Blizzard App, which seems silly now given that everyone still calls it Battle.net and apparently it's not only for Blizzard games anymore lol.
