SomTervo
So (re your status Ethan) I was super duper hyped for Destiny. Then I pre-ordered it on the PSN.I suddenly realised that if it's not as good as I hoped, I wouldn't be able to return it. It would just sit there on my PS4 sucking up £55. And I bought a £35 prepaid card to help along with it. So even if I cancel the preorder, I'll still have put £35 in for nothing. I'm having a serious digital-age non-refundable nightmare. At the time I was all like "the convenience of just choosing it on the dash and playing immediately is too great, especially in our unnecessarily massive living room", but now I'm all like "shit if I don't like it it'll sit on my PSN account forever and there's no way to get money back out of it." Edit: I guess my only consolation is that I decided to go in for the game immediately after the beta, because I felt utterly confident in it being a good purchase. Clearly it was fun enough to warrant a purchase. Not to mention I'm paying £55 for something which £500 million was sunk into. That's a pretty good value ratio. TheMightyEthan
Not to mention I'm paying £55 for something which £500 million was sunk into. That's a pretty good value ratio. I don't think that's how that works... Also, the $500 million is a commitment to the franchise as a whole, not to this specific game. SomTervo
Yeah naturally- being a tad facetious Aint they planning on supporting it for 10 years? Or is that franchise support again? Regardless, i paid a relatively small amount for a (hopefully) high quality barrier Edited September 4, 2014 by kenshi_ryden
TheMightyEthan
That's the franchise, I think, though that part's a bit unclear. They might use a model more like WoW where you've got major expansions every few years, rather than actual new standalone games, they haven't said yet.
SomTervo
On the PSN pre-order thing, it's nice that they don't charge you until the days around release date. That definitely alleviates the pressure. Also I chatted to an employee at GAME- turns out trade-in prices are based on how many copies of a game are currently owned by consumers. Considering how Destiny's going to sell like hotcakes, its trade-in value will never be too high to begin with. CorgiShinobi
Funny, I was about to post these too, but I can do one better. On the Destiny subreddit, some dudes figured a way to input all the codes at once. Did it myself and it worked without a glitch. http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2fmp4u/all_25_codes/ In Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + J to open the JavaScript Console (If you're on Mac, toolbar -> View -> Developer -> JavaScript Console). Copy and paste the following: var codes=["YKA-RJG-MH9", "3DA-P4X-F6A", "MVD-4N3-NKH", "TCN-HCD-TGY", "HDX-ALM-V4K", "473-MXR-3X9", "JMR-LFN-4A3", "HC3-H44-DKC", "69P-KRM-JJA", "69P-VCH-337", "69R-CKD-X7L", "69R-DDD-FCP", "69R-F99-AXG", "69R-VL7-J6A", "69X-DJN-74V", "6A7-7NP-3X7", "6A9-DTG-YGN", "7F9-767-F74", "FJ9-LAM-67F", "JD7-4CM-HJG", "JDT-NLC-JKM", "JNX-DMH-XLA", "7CP-94V-LFP", "7MM-VPD-MHP", "RXC-9XJ-4MH"]; var codeField = document.getElementById("text_code"); var i = 0; var delay = 2500; function enterCodeLoop () { setTimeout(function () { codeField.value = codes; $(".btn_submitCode")[0].click(); i++; if (i < codes.length) { enterCodeLoop(); } }, delay) } enterCodeLoop(); Edited September 6, 2014 by Atomsk88
Strangelove
The closer the day gets the more i feel like Ive succumbed to the hype. FPS is probably my least favorite genre, I prefer single player games over multiplayer, and I havent played a Halo game since the first one in 2001 or whatever. I just feel like Im going to play the main story and then go back to Diablo 3.
SomTervo
I feel the same- but then I think back to the beta, and while I can't remember why, it was definitely a joy to play the entire time. Until I ran out of stuff to do, which shouldn't be an issue in full-game. The 'I'm mainly an SP player' argument doesn't discount Destiny at all? Did you play the Beta? You can do the thing basically entirely as a singleplayer experience, and it's still really good (from what I did in the Beta). In story missions you go into the 'shadow' and no other players are around. The world is really good, creeping up on Fallout 3 quality in terms of exploration and little stories that happen (albeit obviously a fraction of Fallout's size.) And in the open world people randomly drop in and out, adding awesome emergent moments. I even think just the addition of experience points and damage points somehow makes the essentially Halo gameplay about 100x better. Like if Halo had XP from kills and properly upgradable gear, it would have been fixed- and we didn't know this until Destiny! TheMightyEthan
Yeah, my hype from last week died back down again and now I'm meh. I just remember that I fucking loved the alpha and beta and am confident that I'll get sucked right back in once I actually have it in my hand.

CorgiShinobi
Yesterday the PS4 Limited Edition came back in stock on Amazon, though I never did receive a notification email from Amazon. Perhaps because I had the standard edition pre-ordered; who knows? I'm finally on the hype train too, though I won't be able to play until late Tuesday evening. Well, I'll only be playing in the late evenings for the next couple of days...
TheMightyEthan
Now that everyone has started posting about the Destiny servers being live and how they're playing it and whatnot my hype levels have shot back up through the roof. I'm seriously considering going to Walmart tomorrow after my sole appointment (which ends at 10:00 AM) and buying the game, then returning the Amazon one when it arrives. I dunno, I'm getting a "Last of Us" vibe for the launch of Destiny, a.k.a. "Sorry sir, we don't have any PS4 copies left. Would you be interested in the Xbox 360 version?" TheMightyEthan
Being able to buy games at Walmart on a whim on launch day is one of the few benefits of living in the middle of bumfuck nowhere.
CorgiShinobi
Oh, nearly forgot... Did anyone else read about or actually go to the website advertising Destiny "The Fragrance?" People were writing about how it was a "work-around" for Microsoft to advertise the game on their platform, but ultimately it was still an advertisement for Destiny. The website is replaced with some text explaining there are games, an experience, ask retailers, and etc now.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I went to it the day it launched. Nothing much to mention about it, it was an obvious violation of the no advertising thing.

I have a PS3 and I will eventually get a PS4. Maybe this holiday season. So if I am getting it right, I will have to redeem the PS4 copy by January 15th? I'm not 100% committed to the PS4 this holiday season (Add in the Vita and I might) so I don't want to get burned if I don't get a PS4. TheMightyEthan
The way I read it you just have to redeem the PS3 version before the 15th, not the PS4 version. But I am not 100% sure of that.
