Hot Heart
Agh, it's kinda annoying knowing that's a thing. I should have a PS4 in a month's time, but I kinda want to get the game now. ...but then there's no one to play with.
staySICK
so somehow I ended up with two bungie accounts, and can't seem to get them to merge. um. Agh, it's kinda annoying knowing that's a thing. I should have a PS4 in a month's time, but I kinda want to get the game now. ...but then there's no one to play with. and there won't be in a month! TheMightyEthan
Everybody remember to join the PXoD clan. http://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Detail/165389 You have to do this even if you're a member of the group, because clans and groups are related but distinct things, and also even if you already did this before the Alpha/Beta, because Bungie reset clans since then. Just click "Join Xbox Clan" or "Join Playstation Clan" on that page.
SomTervo
I've been reading some worrying words floating around the internet. In various comment sections/ boards. A lot of people saying there's not enough content by half in the game. This is from folks who have been playing it for 12 hours or have been watching livestreams of it being played for many hours. (Not that this is in any way a good method to play a game without getting tired and frustrated with it.) Ohgod. Have I made a huge mistake with the digital purchase. Ohgod. TheMightyEthan
People on the internet always bitch about there not being enough content. The game could have 10,000 hours of unique stuff and they'd still whine about it.
TheMightyEthan
I realized I probably can't do my Walmart plan because the preorder edition is actually a separate SKU and everything, so I couldn't substitute it for the one I bought from Walmart. Strangelove
You can't use shaders til you're level 20. Isn't that the max level? That's kind of dumb.
TheMightyEthan
It depends on the shader right, just like equipment?
SomTervo
You're right Ethan. I'm just getting such digital cold feet every 20 minutes. Home in an hour and a half... Strange: Level 20 is the max for your subclass. Ie your class can be Warlock but your subclass is a further division of Warlock. After hitting 20 as Warlock you can technically go another 20-40 levels by choosing Firewalker (not the proper name) which is one of two more Warlock subclasses with their own bunch of skills and abilities. I think practically you're still level 20 but the level number still goes up. And what the heck is a shader. TheMightyEthan
Shader = armor color pattern.
SomTervo
Man I couldn't give a shit about that shit
TheMightyEthan
Ordinarily I'd agree, but in games like Destiny where there's a bunch of other players and you want to make yourself distinct I'm more on board with that stuff.
Strangelove
The two shaders I got from using codes and the ones the outfitter sells are all level 20.
SomTervo
That sucks man. Level locked from the word go... Ethan: true, i suppose there'll never be more than 10 people physically around so it'll be more personal anyway in terms of customisation
CorgiShinobi
I spent a good 10 minutes designing my character. Thing is, I figured not many people would actually be seeing my face, but damn, when you only have so few customization options, you want to set it just right. Unless, do we get addition customization for our face later on, or is it pretty much armor that's the whole customization? EDIT: Oh, and I was finally able to join the PlayStation Clan. TheMightyEthan
I don't think we get any more face customization in the future.
SomTervo
If we do it'll probably be paid for. It wouldn't make sense anyway though, considering the face is only really important in the cutscenes, in which only you appear. edit: Ethan, mind that 'subplot' news spoiler I was chatting about last night? It was total rubbish. A clickbait article reading mountains into molehills. As far as I can see the story is as simplistic as we perceived. Mister Jack
Is it me or is the story of this game completely incomprehensible? I never have a clue as to what's going on.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, there seems to be a dearth of explanation. You can follow it though if you really pay attention. Spoilers through the Moon missions: In the very first mission after you've got your ship running you discover the Hive on Earth, which is weird as fuck cause the Hive is supposed to be confined to the Moon. You investigate, eventually discovering that the Darkness is returning, and that the Hive have been doing something with a shard of the Traveler to try to weaken it. You stop them, naturally. SomTervo
Yeah, it's like they're going for an enigmatic, minimalist fantasy narrative- but in a sci-fi story you can't really get away with minimal information as much. There has to at least be an option to do your own in-depth further reading, eg Mass Effect's amazing Codex. Like, what are the Fallen? You encounter them in the very first level, and they might as well be meaningless grey cardboard cut outs which move good. They aren't given their own goal, backstory, anything. Just a pretty decent design style. I'm not past Earth yet, mind. I hope it picks up.
Mr. GOH!
Why would you expect story to matter or be more developed in Destiny any more than it does in Titanfall? From the few gameplay videos I have watched, it seems like Bungie decided that lore and story are not needed for the game and the vast majority of the lore is only available on the web rather than in-game. This makes sense; Activision does not want a story or dense lore to scare off or bore the brainless COD hordes. Edited September 10, 2014 by Mr. GOH! SomTervo
Titanfall doesn't have any straight singleplayer or co-op content does it? Probably 65% of Destiny's content is a story-driven campaign with fully implemented co-op. Eg you only go places or do things because they have a motive in the universe. You can play it 100% singleplayer if you want. Obviously the lore being online is totally sound, but they pushed a line that Destiny will have a meaningful narrative journey. Discovering the secrets of the galaxy, the darkness, the traveller, etc., through the player's actual journey. Titanfall didn't drop any mysteries or story prerogative did it? I don't really see the comparison here. Edited September 10, 2014 by kenshi_ryden
Mr. GOH!
From what I've seen, Destiny is designed so that Bungie can say it can be done solo, but *really* it's all about co-op and PvP. The point of comparing Destiny to Titanfall is that both are online-only multiplayer shooters. A genre not known for its deep and engaging storytelling, because the real fun for players comes from playing with other people rather than engaging the developers' plot narratives.
TheMightyEthan
I expected more because it's developed by Bungie, who is known for heavy story development in their shooters.
