ZombiU

Pre-rendered, slow-mo trailers of zombie games have a bit of a stigma that Ubisoft apparently didn't catch wind of.

I made a joke to someone that since it wasn't being played backwards it wasn't a complete ripoff.

Anyways, wasn't this supposed to be a fun/quirky sort of game when it was announced last year? In the press conference they mentioned the change of tone and the change to zombies. -_-

I thought you were going to link to this:

Which may be the best ad for anything, ever. And even if you hate the WiiU you know you want a Non-Specific Action Figure.

Exactly. I can only suspect we'll learn more about ZombiU tomorrow during Nintendo's E3 presser though. They've already covered some of the hardware stuff in their pre-show thing, and they've set aside a separate time to talk about 3DS software. All that leaves for the main E3 event is final system specs, price, online features, and then a ton of time for the actual software. Nintendo is trying hard to attract the core gamer with this hardware, so of course they're gonna show off the immature zombie first person shooter Ubisoft is cooking up for launch. Also, the only reason Ubisoft would have announced the game while saying nothing about it is that they know they're using Wii U features still under wraps and/or they already have a slot to sell the game in Nintendo's stage time.

A lot of things just seem gimmicky. Itll be cool to do it a few times, then it'll become tiresome and youll wonder why you cant just play it with a regular controller.

Games that add a lot "variety" for the sake of variety or showing off features are hard to balance. Some of the gameplay will be good, some of it will be bad, but the game will mix it all in together and the bad will get in the way of the good. I really hate minigames inside a "real" game. Bioshocks's hacking comes to mind. If you liked those kind of puzzles im sure you loved it, but I thought it was annoying as fuck.

Or when No More Heroes came out and you had to shake the controller like youre jacking off to power your sword up. Funny and cool the first couple of times, annoying every time afterwards.

Yeah, I'm definitely more interested in this game now.

I have to wonder though... how many characters can you go through in the game? No "checkpoints," but there must certainly be a point where you can pick up the game again with the remaining characters at your disposal. If anything, this is definitely not for the gamer who lives by trial and error.

lol that it's in London so you have a cricket bat instead of a baseball bat as your "crowbar weapon".

I guess when you restart it will just be with a new character as it seems you do when you die. I guess there must be a limitless supply of uninfected humans otherwise you'd be stuck not being able to progress if you ran out. I assume they don't all spawn from the same place though else you'd never get past a very small area of the map.

Yep, characters are randomly generated:

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/07/zombiu-is-all-about-survival-but-failure-is-pretty-cool-too/

When you die (and you will, since one bite does the job) your character wakes up as a zombie, and you respawn into another randomly generated person in a nearby safehouse, with a quick caption popping up telling you that new person's name and age.

This game is sounding really cool.
