Strangelove
Awesome. Im really going to enjoy the week or 2 after the game comes out and people beat it. Its going to be a mindfuck and the "loud minority" are going to go shitballs insane about how awful it was. Gamers hate fucking everything no matter how good it is, but something like this is guaranteed to get nerds raging. Good times.
Saturnine Tenshi
I don't get it, Strange.
Strangelove
This is going to be an awful game.

deanb
Wow, not sure I've seen a video game feature two of the VA so prominently. Also it's a David Cage film game, of course it's going to have reviews and reception all over the park. It's one of those "what do you look for in a game?" type games. TCP
Yeah the actors on the cover is interesting. A sign of things to come, I think.

Thursday Next
Same here, I like the interactive movie thing that Cage does. But it's understandable that not everyone feels the same way.

toxicitizen
Up until now I've been kind of disappointed by how I'm anticipating this nowhere near as much as I did Heavy Rain. But this trailer really did it for me. Much better than the previous ones.
Strangelove
I've found every trailer for Beyond to be extremely vague plot wise, but I'm excited for it because of how much I liked heavy rain.
Hot Heart
I liked Heavy Rain for the most part, though I'm concerned this is veering more towards the Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy side of things where it just got a bit too ridiculous. Strangelove
I'm willing to trust Page and Dafoe. They've both been in some stinkers, but it's never really because of them. I'm sure they both read the "script" before agreeing to be in the game. And as far as the budget goes, Heavy Rain wasn't an insanely expensive game to make, so I'm expecting the same for Beyond. I'm sure they're getting a few more million this time, but I doubt they had enough money to "buy" Page and Dafoe.
Strangelove
The Beyond demo is pretty glorious, if you liked Heavy Rain. Plays better, it's better written, the voice acting is A LOT better and the game looks fantastic. But it's not "different" enough from HR, so if you hated or disliked Heavy Rain, Id pass up on this one.
Hot Heart
I watched IGN's alternative playthroughs. While everything went a different path, it all wound up at the same place (so like early part of Heavy Rain). I didn't like the sound/look of the Aiden stuff though, and it seems like it takes just a second or so too long for his actions to trigger, and I guess once you've played a bit you get used to the constant slow-mo with lack of onscreen prompts for all the QTE stuff. The effect might look better, but I'm not quite convinced it'll play better...
toxicitizen
Just gave the demo a run. I am going to fucking love this game. I like how the action QTEs work. Not all in your face with prompts and you have to actually pay attention to what's going on instead of just looking for the icon. I actually screwed up a bunch of times. Aidan's controls are a bit shitty but I imagine that's something you'll get used to. I was hesitant about pre-ordering it because Heavy Rain was one of my most anticipated games ever while this one mostly flew under my radar for the longest time. So, I was intrigued but not really hyped. But the demo was full of that crazy David Cage nonsense I love so much. It actually reminds me more of Indigo Prophecy than it does Heavy Rain, so now I kinda hope the story just goes batshit insane towards the end. Now I have to decide whether to order from Amazon and get the regular edition or get the Gamestop exclusive Special Edition, which has a bunch of extras including the soundtrack and a bonus scene but comes in a *shudders* steelbook... Strangelove
I went with GS, I need everything I can get of this game. Whats wrong with steelbooks though? I dont go out of my way to get them, but theyre nice.
toxicitizen
Eh, I just really don't like them. I mean, I wouldn't mind a thick steel box if it had the regular plastic case in it (like the SE of Dark Souls did) but only the steelbook? No thanks. TheMightyEthan
I don't mind metal cases, but hate Steelbook brand cases. The spindles don't let the disc go easily enough, so I always feel like I'm going to snap the disc in half when I'm getting it out. IIRC somebody on this forum (hottie?) broke one of their ME3 discs that way.
toxicitizen
Considering his pure hatred for steelbooks, I'd say it was probably him.
Hot Heart
There was the Halo 3 LE debacle, I was always worried about my Uncharted 2 LE and then, yeah, my ME2 disc broke (fortunately, EA Download Manager - now Origin - saved me there). I HATE STEELBOOKS YEAH Anyway, on-topic, glad to see people I know and trust are finding the controls OK. Gives me a little more confidence. Though, what I really missed from Fahrenheit/IP was the cat-and-mouse situation, so promisingly set up early on.
TheMightyEthan
I have the Halo 3 LE and yeah luckily my disc never got scratched but it's always coming loose every time I pick the damn thing up.
TCP
Reviews are all over the place. 8/10 from Polygon, 5/10 Destructoid, 6/10 IGN.
toxicitizen
Yeah, the reception is unsurprisingly mixed. I was actually surprised by how well Heavy Rain was received across the board. Not gonna happen twice. But considering how positive some reviews are and how much I loved Heavy Rain despite its flaws, I'm not too worried about it personally. I have no doubt I'll enjoy it. TCP
Yeah Heavy Rain never clicked with me, I keep meaning to give it another shot though. I'm kind of glad it's not getting universally 8s or 9s.... there's just too many games at the moment and I'm saving every penny I have for PS4's launch. I'll try this one out in a few months when it's cheaper.
