TheMightyEthan
Okay, so I'm reading The Promise, and at the end of Part 2 it seems like Suki is kind of coming on to Zuko. Did Suki and Sokka break up at some point? I tried a google search but all it turned up was some dude's theory (unproved) about Sokka and Toph ending up together, a bunch of fanfic, and some dude making shit up on a forum to fuck with another dude. I MUST KNOW!
CorgiShinobi
We'll find out in Part 3 because it's still up in the air as far as The Promise and Legend of Korra has gone. I mean... We still don't know who Lin's father is unless we're to believe Toph slept around until becoming a single mother. In the flashbacks, we can make out that Sokka appears to be a councilman, so Toph and Sokka would be relatively close since she would become the Police Chief of Republic City. There hasn't been anything about Sokka and Suki breaking up, though I feel like that would be a big dick move to only include this information in a part of a comic trilogy. While saying, "I'm worried about you..." could be intimate, Suki and Zuko were part of Team Avatar for the last bit of the TLA series, so we could see it as a friend personally showing concern to another friend. She did preface it with, "The Kyoshi Warriors are worried about you..." which comes off as impersonal. Anyway, Part 2 didn't really live up to Part 1 IMO. I think it's still good, but given that we're only given three parts and it's in the span of 10 months, I felt like the story that was setup prior in Part 1 was nearly absent in Part 2. Sure, Toph is a favorite character of mine, but I didn't need that big of a side story, especially when we had Aang's fan club going on too. deanb
Just to throw this one out there, but should Sokka n Toph hook up n produce Lin...well Katara (sokkas sister) definitely produced Tenzin. And Tenzin n Lin were in a relationship. Should Lin be Sokkas daughter that'd make them both cousins. Also I'm sure upon Korra meeting her it wouldn't have just been "You're Toph Beifongs daughter". I'm still with this theory.
deanb
Being watching it with the wee ones. The first two episodes really do go a bit slow n off the mark compared to the later episodes. Bit slow moving and a bit grim. Debating showing them Ember Island Players, spoilers sure but gives a bit of a "how it get's to be later on". That and Toph-less TLA kinda sucks
TheMightyEthan
Toph is pretty awesome... It always cracks me up how excited she is that she's played by a big, muscular dude in the play.
deanb
From what I've read that is concept-Toph, before they settled on a small blind girl that senses through her feet.
TheMightyEthan
I'm glad they went with the blind girl, though I could have done with fewer blind jokes.
CorgiShinobi
Looks like The Promise: Part 3 won't cover what happened to Zuko's mom... because that story is getting it's own graphic novel series called The Search! Oh, and Princess Azula is making a presence too.
TheMightyEthan
GAH! This is all getting so spread out time-wise. I want it NOW!
Waldorf and Statler
Well in the first episode Katara DOES say "well thats a very interesting story" and then gets cut off
Mister Jack
I really ought to look into these comics.
Waldorf and Statler
They're basically ok. Not top notch writing and honestly, the mushiness of a post-war gaang is kind of aangoying. I mean seeing Katara and Aang calling each other mushy names is disgustaang. Aang one more thaan- ok sorry.
CorgiShinobi
It's intentionally annoying/disturbing though that Aang and Katara call each other "sweetie." They're still in this early-teen relationship where everything is puppies and rainbows, but after Part 2 (and the interview up top) we're going to see some "mature" conflict. Obviously they stay together, but they're going to realize that the world of romance isn't exactly smooth sailing. I mean, Katara really shouldn't be jealous/worried, but Aang literally could have a harem of fangirls if he so desired it. The difference being is that Katara loves the Aang attribute of "Avatar Aang" while most of these girls just want to dry hump the Avatar. Mercurial
most of these girls just want to dry hump the Avatar. ಠ_ಠ
Alex Heat
most of these girls just want to dry hump the Avatar. ಠ_ಠ [Horrible sexual joke about water bending and semen] I actually just started watching Avatar since I initially avoided it on the assumption that it was pseudo-anime in the same vein as Teen Titans (read: terrible) because that was how I rolled when I was 19 (when Avatar first aired). I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.
Mercurial
Hey I liked teen titans and all its shittyness.
CorgiShinobi
I'm someone who liked Teen Titans too, considering it improved and began stop acting as pseudo-anime and another DC cartoon series. As for beginning The Last Airbender late, when it debuted, a good portion of the fanbase didn't latch onto it right away. You're bound to hear how The Storm turned people to it because the show was actually displaying a possible mature tone in what could have otherwise been another dumb-downed cartoon. For me, this was the case. I would still watch an episode if it were on, but only a handful before The Storm really grabbed me. After the Book One: Water season finale, I really cared for the characters and went back through the entire season. It greatly improved the episodes, though I would still say some episodes are alright due to quality hiccups, i.e. a particular Sokka laugh. deanb
Been watching it with the wee ones. We're watching a couple every other night, up to..I think The Deserter is next. Phoebe (just 5 yrs) was "airbending" the other day with the wind They're into the show more than I expected. Some elements they don't grasp, like the "spirit world" (to be fair "spirits" isn't exactly a word you tend use in normal convo) and why Zuko freed Aang. Exiled prince is totally over their head, they don't quite understand the dynamic between Zuko and Admiral..Zhao(?). Can't wait to hit Season 2 n Appas kidnapping n Toph and "Leaves on the vine"

deanb
My mum was out for half a day other day so we sped through a bunch of Book Two. Which now means Toph is on the team As well as Azula n co too. Just had Zuko Alone, but I think it may need to be rewatched as by that [point they were having dinner and I don't think fully paying attention (they had been asking a while back what happened ot Zukos mum). TheMightyEthan
The only weird thing was that they had Zuko as Gideon instead of Ozai.
CorgiShinobi
I figure we can put any "The Search - Part 1" discussion right in here. Again, we're getting a few hints at the foundation of Republic City, especially Toph's involvement. However, for this issue, it was a few pages. The Search is definitely crafting a compelling story of Ursa, her hometown, relationship with Ozai, and her life in the Fire Nation. One thing of note is how mature this arc is setting itself when compared to the show. Obviously there were some mature issues with the main cast in The Last Airbender, but we're witnessing a new level with this graphic novel. I won't spoil it, but it honestly makes sense given Ozai's contempt nature toward his own family. Edited March 26, 2013 by Atomsk88
TheMightyEthan
Just read The Search Part 2. I'm kinda disappointed that the explanation of what happened with Ursa is so predictable. Like, it goes into more detail, but it's more or less just exactly what's implied in the show, not really any more to it than that. Now the only thing left is to find out what happened to her after she left.
