danielpholt
Does anyone have any experience using GAME.co.uk's download service? They've got some pretty nice deals at the moment (Tropico 4 £8, Space Marine £12) and i'm thinking of picking them up, however i've never used their service before. Should i wait for a Steam sale or drop the money?
TheFlyingGerbil
I've never used them but just from reading the site, you can download the files only once and some have DRM with limited installs so it doesn't sound great. However, it depends how much cheaper than games you want are? If it's only a pound or two then personally the extra restrictions wouldn't be worth the savings, but if it's £10 or so then that's a harder decision to weight up. danielpholt
I've been looking around and it looks like Tropico 4 is retailing at £30. I can get it for a third of that from GAME. Maybe i'll just wait for a Steam Sale, or pick up Tropico 3 from GoG.
deanb
Yeah I'd wait on buying any PC titles for the meantime unless they're on ridiculous sale prices. What's the back end for GAMEs service? Digital River like Origin n couple others or they using the one Dixons group uses? Cos I know a fair few have issues with how Digital River do business (my only dealing is the dirt cheap Office 07 when I started Uni, and wasn't too bad but downloads were fiddly). Wouldn't really matter if it was "download once" or "download many times", it's GAME, not really worth betting that they'll be around for the second download if it was even offered. danielpholt
Upon download, would i be able to throw the game on a disk? That way i've got a back-up at the very least?
deanb
I've a feeling not much will stop you putting it on a disc, but it really depends how the DRM works on if you'll be able to reinstall later down the line. Might be worth checking if any of the games appear on this list here, then you could tie them to your Steam account with all the benifits that entails.
