Holy shit, how does anyone say Dark Souls 1 is the hardest of the trilogy? I am having so much more trouble with 3. Not as much as Sekiro, granted, but this feels way harder than the original Dark Souls. Enemy AI is much more aggressive and they like to travel in packs far more often. Even the common sewer rats are a legit threat this time. Not only that, but enemies are also fond of combo attacks where if the first hit connects, every other hit will also connect which can drain almost your entire life bar in one go. You start with fewer Estus flasks and on top of that it seems much easier to have your guard broken. I'm dying more to the trash mobs than to the actual bosses, which are a lot more manageable by comparison.

Now that I'm done with Sekiro, I reinstalled Nioh and hopefully will manage to finish it by the time Kiwami 2 comes out on PC. It's been so long (almost 2 years somehow???), that I just deleted my save and started over because I figured I'd have forgotten everything about the combat. Turns out it all came back to me very quickly, to the point where I feel like I absorbed it all much better after redoing the tutorials. Pretty sure there's a few mechanics I didn't quite get the first time.

I don't know if I approached it too much like a Souls game or if my still-fresh Sekiro skills (and DMC5, now that I think about it) are just more directly transferable but I feel like I'm having a much easier (and fun) time with it now. I remember getting stuck on the very first boss for a while and then again on Hino-Enma but I got past both of them after very few attempts this time. I also started using the Odachi as my primary weapon and instantly went "Yep, that's my playstyle" once I realized how much it just fucks shit up. Especially when you've got multiple enemies coming at you.

edit: Ok now I've also beaten that one sub-mission boss that's supposed to be one of the hardest in the entire game really quickly. Either I somehow got much better without playing or I was doing something seriously wrong last time lol.

I think spending all that time with Sekiro has actually made me better at other games. I fired up Bloodborne for a couple hours, but since it's been so long I completely forgot where everything is and I accidentally wandered into the Father Gascoigne boss fight, which is infamous for turning players into red smears on the floor. I thought "Aw shit, I'm not prepared for this at all. I haven't even done any weapon upgrades. I'm going to get my fucking ass kicked." Ended up beating him on the first try. Didn't even have the music box. Having to learn to deflect made me much better at pulling off visceral attacks this time around. I mostly avoided them the first time I played because I could never get the timing of my gunshots down. It feels much easier now, probably because the timing is more generous than Sekiro's deflects.

I know what you mean. Like I said above, I'm finding Nioh much easier than before. I almost never die to trash mobs, only on bosses. I'm further than I was the first time now, and today I ran into the first boss that was actually as difficult as I remembered the game to be. I was starting to get frustrated but then I remembered that the game has coop, so I summoned someone and the fight turned into a joke lol.

I think my only "gripe" was that it wasn't clear that you should probably play the Prologue and Demo first. I got to chapter two on the main game and I am heading back to do those. It should make some of the client interactions make more sense. So far I am just taking that Jill know these people before hand at face value but knowing that the prologue and demo may go over what happened the week before is kind of annoying. Corgis in business suits making a mess in the restrooms... and someone who believed that she was a llama or something?

Anyhow, on an unrelated note. it's nice to play a game (more like a VN) where you're not a kid or teen. It hits a spot that has been rarely been hit.

Yeah, I had played one of them a while before the game came out (the demo I think?) but when I played the main game they hadn't yet remade the prologue in the final game's engine. I should probably find the time the go back and redo a full playthrough now that they've both been patched into the main game. IIRC, you don't really miss out on a lot though.

Also, if you end up wanting more of that world, you should check out 2064: Read Only Memories. It's by a different dev and more of a Snatchers-inspired VN/Adventure game hybrid but I enjoyed it a lot, too.

I should probably beat FFXII but Vann and Penelo really shouldn't have been there as main protagonists. It brought the game down and I kind of stopped playing. I guess I was also stuck on Gilgamesh.

I for sure didn't miss much but it explained some of the earlier interactions.  And I heard of 2064: ROM. It should tied me over until N1RV Ann-A... whenever that comes out. Most of the devs are Venezuelan and life isn't that stable over there. Worse case is that the country eventually goes to hell... and well. Hopefully they have their own VA-11 Hall-A to go lay low in.

Me: The story in this one is actually pretty good! Not as tempted to waste my time on mini-games.

Yakuza 2: The Cabaret Club management sim from Yakuza 0 is back!

Me:

Anyway, at least it doesn't seem as grindy and time consuming this time. I got through the first two leagues pretty quickly and I'm already almost done with the third.

Dear God, Okami just won't fucking end. I mean, it's not overstaying its welcome or anything (at least not yet) but today it pulled the whole "Shit's getting real! Gotta be close to the end-PSYCH! Here's a whole new area you gotta go explore!" thing again. I had heard there was a moment where the game looks like it's ending but ends up opening up even more but that was like 15 hours in, I didn't expect it to happen a second time lol.

I have to say, though, I'm really glad I played this at a time when I was actively looking for something nice and relaxing (to follow up Nioh), because I feel like at any other time I would've bounced off of it a while ago. It's a beautiful game and kinda scratches that Zelda itch but it's ultimately way too easy. Especially when you remember it's a Kamiya game. I knew to be careful not to die more than 5 times for a missable achievement but no joke, 35 hours in I haven't died a single fucking time. There's a food pouch that, IIRC, when you fill it up you get a free revive upon death. Can't say for sure though because even after upgrading it 3 times it still hasn't activated even once lol.

Found out Ace Attorney Investigations was on the android store so I played through it. I usually hate mobile games but this series is a perfect fit for phones and tablets. I spent two days going through it and then I immediately found myself a translated rom for the sequel. I fall in love with this series all over again every time I play it. Please, Capcom. Give us word of Ace Attorney 7 for the Switch!

Final Fantasy XV

I think I'm in chapter 10 now.

I know, I know, but guys, this game is great. I mean, yeah the story is non-sensical and convoluted and it's pretty hard to care about anything because it's so up its own ass. BUT THE BROMANCE!!! It's great. I mean, yeah, it tries to be an action RPG and it's not really strong in the action respects and yeah, it loses a lot of what Final Fantasy is suppose to be with the lack of traditional classes and magic. Also sometimes the game just feels strangely rushed. There's weird sections where major things happen but it's like... none of the characters really cared? Or they decide to do something but it's never really explained. It's like the game feels a little rushed. But I don't care. I'm loving this stupid world it's created.

Yeah, the best way I've seen it described is that it feels like someone was following a plot outline and never added any of the connective tissue to make the story flow properly. The last third of the game is basically just going through a checklist of plot points one after the other.

There could have been a truly great game here, like you said the main party is pretty fun to hang with and the world is gorgeous. I had the most fun when I was just doing road trip stuff with my bros, like camping and doing hunts. The fact that those basic as fuck side-quests were the best part of the game says a lot about how awful the story is lol.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

After Mighty No. 9 and Yooka-Laylee I got a little nervous for this game, but thankfully Iga has broken the streak of shitty games from once respected developers. There's still a little bit of indie jank on this one. Miriam doesn't move around or attack quite as smoothly as Soma or Alucard once did, but it's nothing you can't adjust to and I'm really enjoying it so far. I hear there's New Game+ now and a lot of free DLC coming down the line, including online modes, so I'm really looking forward to seeing where this game is going.
