Control

First few hours were a bit of a slog in terms of raw gameplay. I was getting my ass kicked routinely and nothing made any sense. I think I'm starting to get my head around the games mechanics however, and I can 'feel the fun' a little more now I've collected a few mods/powers.

Playing on a base PS4 and I've had a few ugly moments with framerates here and there but for the most part its held up an awful lot better than I thought it might, apart from the room with

Spoiler

the spinning ball of death that you have to lock away in a side room.

Anyone else think the game has just too many systems layered on top of each other? I've got like 3 types of mod, upgrades to those mods, health upgrades, energy upgrades, melee upgrades etc etc. Kinda the same issue I had with the most recent God of War. It's like they didn't know when the stop.

That aside I think I'm going to stick with Control for the time being.

I didn't feel like there were too many systems. Yeah there are a lot of options for mods, but I don't feel like that's different from any other game with equipment, where some of it affects some stats and some affects others. I think they intend you to find a setup you like and more or less stick with it.

I've been trying to play Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for a while now. I keep getting older and finding less time to play games. ?

Some wonky physics here and there, but overall I enjoy it. The story is engaging, though sometimes the gameplay can be frustrating. The hybridization of Dark Souls and Uncharted to essentially make a sci-fi Sekiro does seem lacking at points. I am playing on Jedi Master difficulty, so there's definitely a challenge with the damage you receive compared to the normal difficulty.

I also should have gone to Bogano a bit more because I just got two Stims that I could have used on the Ninth Sister boss fight. Also, the "premium" content is now available to all, so I've got an orange lightsaber using some of the premium parts. Orange isn't my favorite, but I've been rocking a green lightsaber for the majority of the game so far.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap

It's metroidvania of sorts that doesn't give you a map so you're pretty much running off memory on where to check out next. Combat is rudimentary at best, same goes to movement. It combines to make for a frustrating platformer which this games does with a mouse form that can stick to walls and ceilings... if you time the inputs correctly! It made me rage quit for the night. It's very true to the original it seems which is fine but man... it's shows. At least it looks and sounds really nice. Not sure if I want to finish this... mind, what I played was not that hard. Just frustrating.

Ys: Memories of Celceta

I think I'll play this before I move onto Ys 8 for game mechanics' sake. Kind of like how I recommend people to play the older Ys games before moving onto Oath or Origins. Story wise, I technically played this one but just one of the SNES one.

As for CS3, I'm kind of mustering the will to commit to it. Once I start, I'll be crushing the game. Kind of like how I quickly worked my way through to Chapter 3 where I'm currently at. Part of my hesitation is just how much of the Crossbell games' info I am missing and how it will probably get worse as I move further in.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Switched to a more stealthy approach after getting mauled by machines a couple of times, working much better so far. :P

Also, a question about an item I picked, that started a new quest:

Spoiler

Are power cells and the bunker thingy endgame stuff? Or can I look for them now and get the armour? Is it even worth it? It looks cool. \m/ \m/

Kentucky Route Zero

7 years after finishing episode one and deciding to wait the 'year or so' it'd for them to finish the entire series, I'm finally going to play through KRZ. Two episodes down so far and yeah, its a really good one of those. Lots of people are falling over themselves to give the game praise, and whilst most of it is well deserved I can't shake the feeling that this game is 2020's version of something like Night in the Woods.

Again, both great games, but maybe not worth the hyperbole that seems to be attached to it.

I'm slowly working my way through Disco Elysium. I'm very much enjoying it, I love how responsive it is (seems to be?) to the way you play the character. The only reason my progress is slow is because you definitely have to be in the right mood to play it, so I've been interspersing it with Pokemon Sword and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore.

Sonic Forces

Because it's free with PS+ and that's a fair price for this game. It's not exactly terrible, but there's not a lot that wows me. Your custom character is alright, though it's hard not to make something either laughably goofy or middle school edgy. There is solid gameplay for most of the stages, but the story and dialogue are either ho-hum or awkward. Like if you injected furries into an apocalypse film, but it was adapted into a Saturday morning cartoon series.

DOOM 3

HOLY SHIT, YOU CAN HAVE THE FLASHLIGHT AND A GUN NOW!

I played the original one, where you either could see what was in front of you and then get chomped by a demon, or have a gun ready but then bump into everything because you could not see 1 meter ahead of you.  :P

@CorgiShinobi Middleschool edgy is very on-brand for Sonic, so I think that's the right way to go.

@MetalCaveman Yeah I remember when that game first came out, I installed a "duct tape" mod that let you use your flashlight and gun at the same time. ?

I played the XBOX version, no mods for me. :P Did have cheats though, which this new version lacks. :P

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

I absolutely loved Ori and the Blind Forest with all my heart, and this one is shaping up as a great follow-up. Got it through Gamepass, so bonus for it only costing $5. Actually less since I'm gong to play Halo Anniversary next.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses: Cindered Shadows

This one I am not liking as much, which makes me sad, since I absolutely loved FE3H. I didn't realize till after I bought it that the selling point was the difficulty, any while I'm not finding it too hard per se, it is a little tedious. The battles just go on and on. I'm only on the third one though, so I'm hoping it gets better.

Trails from Zero

Finally got time and the right mindset to start (Soju got better).

The first hour in the intro dungeon is quite a bit better than CS1's. I would describe the experience as tighter. Part of it is that we're starting with four characters rather than eight characters so they all have time to shine. Not sure if I can compare CS3's intro but having a reduced class size in that helped. Sky's intro for sure took a bit to get going but pacing there was actually solid. Sky's intro basically had to build the world that has now spanned 8-9 games.

So yeah, I am highly looking forward to really getting into this! I've waited for so long.

And yeah, CS3 is on hold for now.

Animal Crossing

I've said this before but holy fuck did I need this game right now. Everywhere I look it's fucking scary as shit, but Animal Crossing is allowing me to step back and chill the fuck out.

COD: WARZONE

I dunno. It's like a weird spot between PUBG and APEX. Which also means it holds a weird spot in my heart. I'm enjoying it, but it's not as much fun as APEX, and Solo's mode gives me the same tension filled half an hour that PUBG did, but also it doesn't do that as well either. Given that it's a COD game, it's well presented and the shooting is fine, it's just maybe a little too deep in the COD aesthetic for my own taste. Also for anyone who knows what this means; I fucking hate the load-out system. Get that shit out of my BR.

Alright, now that I've taken a break and then gone back, I'm enjoying FE3H: Cindered Shadows a lot more. It seems like it was just that one battle that was super tedious, so I cheesed the shit out of it, and now I'm really liking it.

I'm also playing Halo: Combat Evolved: Anniversary Edition since it's out on PC now and I already had Gamepass so I could play Ori. The graphics enhancement is actually better than I remembered. In my memory they had really fucked up the art style, and while there are a few things (like the doors on Assault on the Control Room... just... who thought those looked good or fit with the aesthetic?), for the most part I think it really does a good job of capturing the feel of the original while making it much more modern looking. I mean, obviously at this point the Anniversary graphics are almost 10 years old themselves, but the difference between them and the original is night and day.

Graphics aside, it's OG Halo, which is always fantastic.

Animal Crossing - I was worried Pocket Camp had put me off the series, but I love it as much as I hoped I would. I'm cautiously optimistic I'll stick with it as I've not really been playing games much at all recently.

Yoku's Island Express - I've been wanting this since before it came out but only fairly recently got it and while I'm really not great at pinball mechanics but it's not frustrating me. Quite the oposite - I'm enjoying it. Though if the percentage when I load it is anything to go by it's a lot shorter than I was expecting.

Going back and forth between Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing. Animal Crossing is nice and relaxing which is just what I need right now but progress feels much slower here than in previous games. Since you have to craft everything now it means you can't jump quickly dump bells into new public projects. I'm currently building houses for my neighbors but it'll probably be several days until I finish. It gives me something to work for I guess but it also means I don't have a lot to do in these early stages after I finish gathering the days' materials. Thankfully I have another game to fill the gaps.

Doom Eternal is the SHIZNITE. This game fucking rocks even harder than Doom 2016. I love it.

I would honestly like to know what people like about Animal Crossing? I ask because I keep seeing everyone talking about it on Twitter, and it makes me intrigued, but it seems like something that would get real old real quick.
