toxicitizen
Don't buy Valheim, guys. It's not a game, it's a fucking curse. I just stopped a 4h session with my friend and it's already calling back to me. I have to restrict myself to just playing on our common world because if I start playing solo I'll do nothing else with my life lmao. Mister Jack
My PS5 came today. I'm really digging it so far and I love the controller but I fucked myself over. I plan on selling my PS4 tomorrow so I reset it back to factory settings and then hooked up my PS5 to play some Nioh 2 Remastered. Little did I realize that despite uploading my save to the cloud through the PS4, it doesn't actually work unless you upload your character save through the in-game option instead. So I lost almost 200 hours worth of progress. I suppose I could technically unhook everything, move the furniture again, hook the PS4 back up, re-add my account to it, reinstall Nioh 2 and the DLC, download my save, upload it, then reset the PS4 again, unhook it, and hook the PS5 back up, but all my consoles are inside of an enclosed tv unit that is hard to move and I just don't fucking feel like doing it. I had already planned on replaying it with a friend anyway and I already had the platinum for the ps4 version so whatever. I like the game so much that starting fresh doesn't piss me off as much as it normally would. I'm actually more pissed about the fact that I can't upgrade my PS4 Spiderman to the PS5 Spiderman and I'm basically forced to have the Miles Morales Ultimate Edition if I want to play the good version of Spider-Man on it. Edit: Okay, I'm dumb as shit. It took me many hours to realize that I could launch Nioh 2 PS4 from the PS5 instead of the remaster, download my cloud save onto that version, upload it in the in-game menu, and then switch the game back to the remastered version. It's going to take me a little time to get used to the fact that I can launch multiple versions of a game from one disc now. Thursday Next
Great that you got it sorted. I do find the PS4/PS5 version UX to be pretty awful. But at least it is there I guess?
TheMightyEthan
It's a lot better than it was at launch, now at least it says "PS4" after the title if you have that version selected, and pops up a warning (which you can disable) if you try to launch the PS4 version of a game that you also have the PS5 version, asking if you wanted to launch that instead. For a few weeks there were a lot of people playing PS4 versions of games thinking they were playing PS5 and being very underwhelmed with the new console. The thing that I find annoying is that when playing a PS5 upgrade off a PS4 disc, it sometimes randomly starts installing the PS4 version. Like no, I already have the PS5 version installed, leave it alone.

Like no, I already have the PS5 version installed, leave it alone. They need to fix this ASAP. I only realized this morning that I have Nioh 2 installed twice and the PS5 upgrade isn't a 4K texture pack and some system files or something. Now that I transferred my save I have no reason to keep the PS4 version, but it's gonna be a real pain if it tries to install it every time I put the disc in. TheMightyEthan
It doesn't do it every time, it's just occasionally, and it seems to do it more with some games than others. Like it's done it to me three times in the last two weeks on Sackboy: A Big Adventure, but hasn't done it at all on Immortals Fenyx Rising. Supposedly the last firmware update did fix it, but mine still does it from time to time.
TheMightyEthan
After I finished Maquette I was in the mood for something a little more mindless, and since I had Maneater from PS+ I decided to give that a try. It's definitely mindless, though maybe a tad less ridiculous than I was expecting (don't get me wrong, it's still ridiculous, just from what I had heard I was expecting more in the realm of super-powers, though there is a little bit of that). It's a lot of stupid fun, and squarely in the AA category that I wish there were more of.
Mister Jack
The Demon's Souls Remake is definitely a better experience than the original. A rock solid 60 FPS, better controls, better menus, and the ability to send items directly to storage when you're overburdened go a long way toward reducing frustration. However, there are other things they didn't fix that I really wish they did. These levels can get really fucking long with almost no shortcuts, unlike Dark Souls where shortcuts are placed much more generously. Having to redo an entire level from nearly the end when I die is not fun or challenging, it's just annoying. In fact, if there's one thing I still hate about the Souls series it's having to trudge back to the boss from far away after every failed attempt to kill it and that issue is at its worst in Demon's Souls. It's completely pointless because I've already proven I can beat the rest of the level multiple times over. Why put me through that? It's made me appreciate all the more that Nioh 2 places shrines much closer to its boss arenas. I was really hoping the remake might do something about that, even as an optional setting, but oh well. Maybe that's just too much to ask. What's NOT too much to ask is a backstab indicator. It's hard to tell when you're properly lined up. Unlike the checkpoints, this could have been a really simple fix. When you're lined up for a backstab in Nioh 2 your targeting reticle turns red. That's literally all they had to do, or something along those lines, but they didn't. Because of that, there have been many times when I thought I was set up for a backstab but I just whacked the guy in the back. It's annoying. Despite those two gripes, I'm still having a mostly pretty good time with the game so far, certainly more than I ever did with the original, but those two issues continue to bedevil me to this day. Thursday Next
I think the worst offender for path to boss is 4-2, closely followed by 5-1. Most of the rest of the levels have a fair shortcut although it took me ages to find it in 5-2. I think the payoff tends to be that the corresponding boss is (relatively) easy. I guess the devs consider a failed backstab part of the learning experience? Edited March 9, 2021 by Thursday Next
Mister Jack
My philosophy is that it should not be harder to do something in a game than it would be in real life. Not that I have any intention of stabbing somebody in the back, but if I did I'm pretty sure I would be able to line the knife up.
toxicitizen
My warning not to buy Valheim stands. This game is fucking evil. Thursday Next
I've been playing "Fights in Tight Spaces" it's a turn based/card game with a John Wick (but when he doesn't have guns) sort of feel to it. It's in early access and you can download a free "Prologue" if you wanna try it out. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1265820/Fights_in_Tight_Spaces/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/1478070/Fights_in_Tight_Spaces_Prologue/ Still needs some rough edges sanding down. It's a bit unforgiving, and the last mission is a bit tedious since it's just "same again, but baddies now have 4x HP", but other than that it is enjoyable. MetalCaveman
Battletech Well, the last couple of missions have been a thing. Earlier in the campaign I had an issue with one of the story missions, but that annoying thing ended up being related to an optional objective, so I just skipped that stuff, now though, these missions have some mandatory conditions that are just annoying as hell. First, they shove a story character into your team, replacing one of your units, so now I've lost a trained pilot and their mech, built and set for their skills, and they've been replaced by a useless pilot, with no decent skills and a mech that's made of paper, and hits with less force than a wet noodle. Oh, and of course I'm supposed to keep them alive. The next mission is worse, many of the same conditions apply, except that now there's MORE enemies so enemy turns take half an hour, I have none of my mechs or pilots, and of course, there's more than one part, with even more enemies popping up. Also, for some reason: Spoiler Current Taurian mechs hit way harder than LosTech SLDF mechs, and the gauss rifle, said to be able to "punch a hole through an assault mech without effort" isn't capable of even damaging a light mech, I get that there's balance reasons for some of this stuff, but come on, let this mission be a nice change of pace, let the SLDF mechs shine, live up to their reputation and be OP as hell and then maybe go all like "well, we lost those mechs in the evac, but that sure was fun right!", that'd be better than this BS. Resident Evil 4 Now this is a FUN game, controls are much more awkward than I remember, but the rest holds up pretty well. 1

Mister Jack
The Otto lab ones with the circuits and the chemicals. I did them all back on the PS4 but they just break up the pace too much.

TheMightyEthan
Dishonored Definitive Edition I got the whole Dishonored series cheap on PS4 (this is actually a coincidence to the Bethesda buyout, I wasn't even thinking about that when I bought these), just finished platinuming the first one yesterday, and goddamn that game is just as good as I remember. Sadly it never got a PS4 Pro upgrade, and 1080p30 is almost painful for me to look at now*. I've gotten used to it again now, it just took longer than I was expecting, and I still laugh at how muddy everything is and how just a few years ago I would have thought this was an amazing image. I am kind of impressed with it's antialiasing though, even at this low resolution there are basically no jaggies, it's only on very high frequency details, like metal grates and such, that I ever see any shimmer at all. Having recently played a little Bloodborne, which is also 1080p30 but with no AA, I have to say I still prefer good AA, even though it makes then image softer, than an un-antialiased image with tones of aliasing. Anyway, tech stuff aside, it's a fantastic game, still lives up to my memories of it, which is impressive for a 9 year old game. I still highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys stealth games. I was going to play another game as a pallet cleanser before moving on to The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches, but I think I'm going to go straight to those since I'm already acclimated to the 1080p30, and I don't want to break that by playing something newer in between. Luckily Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider did get PS4 Pro patches, so I won't have that problem with them. *Normally 30fps doesn't bother me, it's only with PS5 that graphics have gotten good enough for me to prefer 60fps lower resolution performance modes over 30fps higher resolution quality modes, because now even "low resolution" performance modes are as high a resolution as the quality modes were last gen, but this game doesn't even have motion blur, which makes it seem even extra jerky.
Thursday Next
I'm trying No Man's Sky again after ages. TheMightyEthan
How far in are you? If you're right at the beginning you might try starting over again and seeing if you get a better starting location. My wife played that game maybe a year ago and liked it quite a bit for a while, though she kind of petered out. I played for about 20 hours at launch before the progress slowed down enough that I lost interest, and I tried it again after the big update but for whatever reason it never grabbed me.
