oh, i'd forgotten about my villain on DCUO, Bezalel. boy, did i spend a weekend on that game and then never play it again. i'm not sure why, it was pretty fun.

i think i'm about to pop in Dragon Quest VIII for some sweet JRPG action. although i've also got Heavy Rain, which i picked up in a buy-2-get-3 sale and haven't played yet. hrrrrmmmm... maybe it's time.

Right now i'm kneww deep into FFXIV and loving it.. yes it's not perfect, but yoshida is making a hell of a jo with it

and i'm happy to say i'm having a blast

Always makes me happy to hear stuff like this. I got in touch with a friend from XI a couple of weeks ago (I just went back to XI about 6 weeks ago, myself) and he and his wife seem pretty hooked, and impressed with a lot of the changes Yoshida has already implemented, as well as ones to come. From what I understand, the massive overhaul that's going to take place is going to be integrated into the story in some pretty interesting ways too, which I thought was neat. I'm waiting on the PS3 version, as my PC scored kinda low on the benchmark. Pretty psyched for it though.

Ok back to farming gear for BCNM.

I tried going back to XI but after 3 years or more of innativity i couldn't bear the sight of the game, also leveling from 1-99 in a week seemed ridiculous to me, i left on the midst of wings of the godess arrivals, and was already burned out emotionally and experience wise from the game.

Now on XIV there isn't as much to do as XI but the game is very playable and entertaining, end game content is still lacking, as there aren't many dungeons and only 3 primal fights so far (moogles, ifrit & garuda)

Yes 2.0 is the change or major overhaul in the game, it's woven into the story with meteor about to strike in the land of Eorza, after that maps an regions will change, and the current main story quest will disappear, so it's kind of nice to be part of this prelude once it will be forgotten, in place for the new storyline.

As a added bonus all those of us who have played XIV before 2.0 for more than 90 payed days get access to a special status called legacy, which gives us a lifetime monthly bill of 10 instead of 15, a special chocobo mount and upt to 8 character slots, freely change servers and finally our name in the game credits.

Finally the game engine is being redone to fit lower specced PC's as well as high tier, since right now is very poorly optimized as it demands way too much on the hardware for what isn't the most brilliant graphics.

I could keep telling you all that has changed since launch and how much will change on the arrivall of 2.0, however i'll just leave you with my Dragoon!

  • 3 weeks later...

I just gave my Amnesia demo a go after not getting around to it forever. It takes a LOT for a game to spook me since horror/survivals are in my favorite genre. But even the demo managed to get me with the unseeable monster in the water. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for when this game becomes 75% off on steam.

I've been playing Lord of the Rings War of the North the past week+.

It's not entirely what I expected, still mostly action orientated but more RPG elements to it than I expected. Pretty linear though. Making me hanker after "The Third Age" (Which my brother sold on :/)

The main issue it has is it's very much built for multiplayer co-op, it seems they forgot to work on making it work as a SP game. Which means it's a PITA to distribute inventory (only you pick inventory up) and control what the other dudes are doing, levelling up, wearing etc. Once you pass on inventory to the other two you have no more control over it, whether it's equipped or what happens to old unused items. Meaning atm I'm just keeping hold of it all and selling what I don't make use of to buy better gear for myself. The genral item inventory (so storing vendor loot, alchemy ingredients, random potions) doesn't have much room, and while you can use left n right on d-pad to quickly use health n mana(power) potions, you have to open the inventory menu to access any other potions, meaning mid fight you tend to forget about them. Oh the Settings menu only has one option, which would be Settings, then in that you have the stuff like sound, difficulty, gamma etc.

It does look fairly pretty though, some nice touches to the environment here n there. The VA for the in-film characters rarely sound like the actor counterpart, unsure if that's on purpose or not (see my bit about Third Age below). Story is cool too, it pretty much steers away from the plot of the film, just concentrating on..well the war in the north. I'm about to meet Radaghast, and given when this game was made I'm unsure if they'll have done their own, or known to use a Sylvester McCoy-alike.

Oh and I present the final boss of The Third Age

For those who haven't played it, it's basically an EA made RPG that pretty much skins the Final Fantasy X mechanics with LOTR inspired characters (They had no film rights so couldn't use acted characters from the film, so it's all knock-offs). It was pretty fun, unless you disliked FFX gameplay. Oh it also has a thing where at end of each chapter you can go back n play the Bosses of that chapter fighting against your dudes. You win the 5 or so fights in a row and you unlock neat weapons n gear, which tend to be pretty OP for the period of the game you unlock them at. Oh the bit in Moria sucks, I can't remember specifics just that I hated it, I think there was like a witch doctor orc that could fuck you up at that point of the game.

On the netbook I'm occasionally playing Cthulhu Saves the World. And on the phone random phone games (recent one is Gyro) and FFIX on the emulator, but that's more of an experimental thing that doing it seriously.

Saint Row the Third. Its a blast to play. Its not too hard or too easy which really suits its wacky tone. Totally worth the money, even the pack. Oddly enough, that pack is only missing one DLC, the Genki Girl stuff. Not critical so I can ignore it but its sort of hard by just missing that one DLC... perhaps I'll get it when its a buck during the Holiday Sale if I remember.

My main complaints for the game is that every vehicle drives like ass. You'll get used to it but yeah... also of all weapons. The pistols seems to be the strongest... it can clear a mob when a SMG can't.

All of the stock "tier 1" weapons are actually better than the second upgrade weapon, usually. It's weird, but once you update the first pistol Desert Eagle thing to the exploding bullets and the first SMG to incendiary ammo the other ones just pale in comparison.

I am playing through Nier and I cannot believe how utterly depressing this is :( Even more than I was told.

I hadn't felt any sort of emotional response to a video game for years until I played Nier (the last game was Digital Devil Saga). It was different to genuinely think 'man, I want this guy to save his daughter'.

Playing some Darksiders. I got it in February 2011, played the opening sequence, and put it down for reasons unknown (I think I was distracted by Mass Effect 2 at the time). With the second one coming out soon, I thought it would be a good time to pick it up again. It's very Zelda like, without ever giving that warm-cozy Zelda feeling that Zelda gives. Which means that I don't enjoy it as much as a Zelda, but it's still fun. And it's not incredibly frustrating like 3D Dot Game Heroes!!
