Oh well, it's back to school tomorrow. And so ends my week of intensive gaming. In the end, I gave up on finishing Planescape: Torment. It was pretty damn good but I made some big mistakes in leveling my character early on and it made combat pretty much unmanageable in the last quarter of the game. Given more time, I probably would've started over at that point but I only had a few days left and I was actually pretty close to the end so I just lowered the difficulty (something I'd normally never do) and soldiered on. I made it to the point where all that's left to do is final preparations and on to the final dungeon/boss, but ultimately the combat is still too frustrating for me to put up with it. It's a shame as the game definitely lived up to its reputation of having amazing writing and I really want to know how it ends. I might give it another go over the summer or something. :(

At least it wasn't all failure. I did a new normal run on XCOM and once that was done I went back to my Ironman Classic game from a few months ago and finished it. Man, I hope Firaxis announce some new DLC soon. The game is amazing but it could really use some new maps, at the very least.

Started playing Spec Ops: The Line. Seems OK so far, some nicely chaotic gunfights. Though, at times, there seem to be more enemies than bullets and only slightly fewer than there are grains of sand. :P

About the enemy waves,

When i realized who I was gonna be fighting, I thought about how they're gonna handle enemy waves since there can't be that many US soldiers there. It turns out there was, and I think it made the trope even more ridiculous than it was.

It made me think though about how many do i still have to kill, as I'd rather not kill any more than I have to, them being fellow soldiers and all. So I guess maybe that's part of what they want you to realize i guess, not to mention those loading screen tips telling you to just let go and kill them all, it's only a game anyway...

Finally decided to give Alpha Protocol another shot. Just finished the Saudi Arabia part. At first, it seemed to be as big a piece of crap as I remembered it to be. Shitty animations, controls feeling a bit off and just overall really rough around the edges. But I kept at it and fuck me, it actually is kind of fun once you can get past the lack of polish.

It's still a far cry from the game I originally expected (basically, Mass Effect: Spy Edition) and it can be a bit frustrating to play when my regular instincts kick in and I try to play perfectly stealthy, but when I just roll with it and try not to play optimally, I'm enjoying it a lot.

I just finished Splinter Cell Conviction for the second time (the coverage of Blacklist made me want to play it again). I'd forgotten how goddamn short it is.

I think next I'm going to play Killzone 3 with the Move and gun mount.

Yeah, it was pretty intentional. I even looked up how many soldiers are in a battalion.

Later, there are those loading screens 'Do you feel like a hero yet?' which is kinda the whole theme of the game, really.

I am playing Crimson Shroud! I like it! I am increasingly frustrated with how it's menus are laid out, but that is a small price to pay for honest to god innovation in game structure and in how the narrative is presented. Actually the only thing that I can think of that's at ALL structured like it is Riviera The Promised Land.

I'm currently playing Professor Layton and the Spectre's Call. They're not games I think about too often so I forget how much I love them until I play them. I got the US version to get the London Life RPG that's not on the EU version, though I'm probably not playing that until after the main game. Have to say I don't mind the US Luke voice actor that everyone seems to complain about, it's a little flat but a lot less grating. Can't wait to get on to the next one and see how the jump to 3D worked out.

I'm also playing ACIII on the Wii U. I only got it today,  so have played about 3 hours, but I'm loving this one too.

Just switching to these two games has really reinvigorated my gaming and I'm having a really great time playing which I haven't in a while, so I'm really happy. :)

Started playing some LEGO Lord of the Rings. Was only going to play a little, but once you get in that world and hear that music...

It has been pretty good so far. Really cool seeing Middle-Earth and getting to roam around peacefully, unlike LEGO Batman 2 where there were constant spells of enemies popping up. Plus, when you collect things it doesn't freeze you in place while it autosaves. The levels have been pretty interesting, too and there's some nice attention to detail. For instance, during the Pass of Caradhras level, where there is deep snow through which smaller characters have to be carried by bigger characters, Aragorn can trudge through whereas Legolas walks right over the top of it, as alluded to in the books (and sort of included in the film?)

Cool, thanks. I watched that film so many times, including all the commentaries, not long after I first got it (ill at uni without most of my stuff or even internet) and I seemed to recall it being mentioned. Just couldn't remember if it was made obvious.

Just to reinforce that. And god does it look massively fake. Thankfully (though not in capturing it) it's a pretty short scene. There's one directly with his feet next to a sunken Aragorn carrying two hobbits too.

Edit: For relevance to the thread I'm playing a bit of Stacking and a bit of Saint's Row 3. If I put my mind to it I can probably have Stacking complete by tomorrow morning since Howlongtobeat says it's only 4-5 hours long.
