Yeah, unless you're emulating, there's no reason to go with the PS1 version.

Also, it's been like 15 years, and seeing "PSX" still triggers my OCD. You would think that people would have dropped the term, which is already incorrect, after Sony actually did release a product called the PSX.

Ive been meaning to ask this for a while, but I completely forgot about it. Ive played a few strategy games in my time and Ive liked them enough, but I wouldnt say Im a fan of the genre like i am with tps or fighting games. Im not a pc gamer.

Anyways, how did Xcom Enemy Unknown get as mainstream as it did? It won tons of awards and sold pretty well and was released on most devices, but I personally find the game really complicated. Some would say it's "deep." But It just goes over my head with all the stuff you have to keep track of and maintain. There's just so much shit to do.

Not to mention that I found the actual game hard. Not impossible, but I cant imagine the average gamer being good at it initially.

Im just going to assume I suck at these type of games.

I think in this case it might be you because the game isn't that difficult on normal. It has that initial "what the fuck am I doing?" panic and you're meant to lose soldiers and fail a few times at first but once you get past that it gets kind of easier, especially in the late game.

Honestly, I think the reason it was so popular is because of how much they dumbed it down. I don't think anyone who spent a significant amount of time with it would call it deep. If you think Enemy Unknown was complicated then I wonder what you would think of the original (or the upcoming indie Xenonauts perhaps). It's deep but good luck figuring it all out. That game doesn't give a shit. I couldn't be bothered to deal with the UI, personally.

Firaxis made their version very accessible with a slick cinematic presentation and a saturday morning cartoon kind of art style. I'm kinda surprised it did as well as it did, though. Especially on consoles. I figured it'd be pretty big with the PC crowd but I didn't expect it to be that big of a hit.

PS4 Tomb Raider looks damn good. It really should have been a launch title.
That being said, there's still some inconsistencies. Mostly the dlc costumes dont get dirty or damaged. It bothers me for some reason, so I dont use them. Also, the fancy new hair technology they used looks bad when Lara is hanging upside down or in any weird angle that isnt standing, which she does several times in the game. Im not sure how the voice commands work either. I guess I need the headset. Not that Ill use it. Its also weird that they use the controller audio, but it also comes out of the tv at the same time. Every other game I have with controller audio only plays it out of either the controller or the tv, not both at the same time. Weird.

And I still have the same critiques that I used to from the PS3 version. Good game, not great. Maybe with the sequel.

A few too many games, to be honest.

I've been playing Resident Evil: Revelations on and off for the past couple weeks. I like it but I'm more than halfway through and it still hasn't really grabbed me. It's very good but it kinda suffers from originally being a handheld game. I was planning on finishing it over the week-end but that didn't happen. I initially started it in anticipation of the new RE4 PC port, though, so I'll definitely make sure to finish it before that comes out.

I also decided to try Steamworld Dig after buying it and I ended up playing for 2 hours straight. Very addictive little game. It's like all my favorite parts of Terraria but put into a more guided experience and without all the autistic crap. It's not very long, though, so I think the next time I fire it up I'll be finishing it.

But right now Danganronpa is what's been getting all my attention. I'm only on the second chapter's trial but so far I'm really loving it. The Phoenix Wright meets Persona comparison was kind of spot on. It's much easier and more fast-paced than PW and the first trial was painfully obvious once I had gathered all the evidence but the second one just threw a curve ball at me and right now I have no idea where it's going. Fun times!

Yeah, Revelations works on a portable, but on a console/pc it feels really shallow. Its just missing a lot of features the previous games had. Its nice that you can move and shoot, but the enemies are lame. Theres no enemy variety and they dont have any weakpoints anymore aside from headshots. The dodge move is also really finicky. The story mode is really boring too, switching characters every chapter gets old. It feels really plain. You only need to play the first few hours to realize youve pretty much experienced everything the game offers.

That being said, I had a lot of fun with raid mode on the 3DS. It works in short bursts, basically what handhelds excel at.

Three games smacked together...

Persona 3 Portable(playing as the female chick to see the new stuff), Persona 4(replaying it to get the better endings along with the Hollow Forest) and Bravely Default.

Right now BD is at the top...until my wife brings me back my vita(She works night shift...and is playing Katamari on it...fucking left it at work. That fucker better not get stolen or I'm whopping her ass!)

Remember Me. People werent kidding about the gameplay. The combat and the platforming reminds me of a retarded AssCreed.

Which i didnt think was possible. I guess its a true testament to despite how simplistic AC is, it still feels good to play that game.

Its pretty disappointing considering everything else about the game is top notch. Had they made the combat and platforming as good as AssCreed or even the Arkham games, it would have sold pretty well I think.

Hearthstone.

I originally played it a few months back during the Beta roll-out, and whilst I did have fun I found myself not wanting to start it up again. Card games aren't usually my thing, but this is super easy to get into, doesn't seem to require me to spend months constructing the perfect deck, and the games aren't too long. I think that ultimately, i'll spend most of my time playing the iPad version when it finally becomes available, but for now I'm officially on the Hearthstone train.

Strider is way better than I thought it would be. The production value isnt great(terrible voiceacting, bland samey looking stages, shit textures, mouths dont move when people talk), but the gameplay is fantastic. Its not as Metroidvania as I would like, but it's as close as were going to get since IGA doesnt make Castlevania games anymore.

If anyone wants something like that, try the demo. Tough be warned, the gameplay starts out way too simple. it only picks up a couple hours in once you get some of the better upgrades.

Thief.  I'm about 3 hours in, just finished the "second" mission (third if you count the prologue), and so far it's exactly what I was expecting/hoping for.  My only issues so far is that their FXAA/TXAA implementation isn't as good as it could be, so there's more aliasing on certain near-ground objects than I would like, and for some reason it seems to have performance issues in cutscenes (even the prerendered ones, oddly enough... probably loading in the background or something is causing it).

Still playing Thief.  Got 11 hours under my belt now, and my initial impressions hold up: it's exactly what I wanted/hoped for.  Really my only complaint is that it doesn't have as much personality as something like Dishonored.

One thing I really like about it is that while going around the city you'll overheard people talking about loot hidden in this place or that, and it doesn't put a marker on your map or anything, you just have to pay attention to what they say and figure it out yourself.  Similarly in missions you may find say a scrap of paper saying that the combination to a safe is hidden is such and such a place, and the game just expects you to remember that on your own, rather than making a note of it for you (other than that piece of paper being in your inventory) or putting up a waypoint.
