danielpholt
Still playing Thief. Got 11 hours under my belt now, and my initial impressions hold up: it's exactly what I wanted/hoped for. Really my only complaint is that it doesn't have as much personality as something like Dishonored. One thing I really like about it is that while going around the city you'll overheard people talking about loot hidden in this place or that, and it doesn't put a marker on your map or anything, you just have to pay attention to what they say and figure it out yourself. Similarly in missions you may find say a scrap of paper saying that the combination to a safe is hidden is such and such a place, and the game just expects you to remember that on your own, rather than making a note of it for you (other than that piece of paper being in your inventory) or putting up a waypoint. I'm finding the basic of of traversal to be pretty boring. I've put a solid 7 hours in at this point, and whilst I don't dislike the game, I can see why people have been giving it a hard time. I'm struggling to decide if its a poorly made game, or a game that needed more time for polish.
TheMightyEthan
I can see why the somewhat scripted traversal design would bother people, but it just doesn't bother me.
Mister Jack
Danganranpo. It's like a mix between Phoenix Wright and Persona's social link elements. It's pretty neat for a VN, but man it's also pretty fucked up at times. Some of the death scenes are downright disturbing.
Strangelove
I just tried to play RE4 again on PS3. I just cant do it. The controls are terrible. I just cant aim with the same analog stick that I use to walk. Its so weird. Not to mention that there's a huge deadzone in this version. Its really inaccurate. Goddamn, I hope they remake it someday. Same game, just with updated controls.
TheMightyEthan
Unless it's bigger than normal, that's just the DS3 having a huge deadzone. Any shooter on the PS3 is barely playable because of it, at least without a 360-controller adapter.
Strangelove
No, its bigger than usual. I just switched over to RE6 and it's almost nonexistent. I also tried to download a save file from gamefaqs so I could play it over with all the nice overpowered weapons(this game doesnt have an easy mode for some reason), but it doesnt allow me to save. Makes no sense. Disable trophies all you want, just let me play the game.

I'll echo what was said in another thread and point out that you being bad at something doesn't make that something bad or broken. I have zero problem playing shooters on the DS3. In fact, that's the controller I was using to play RE4 on PC. So I have no idea what you're on about here. TheMightyEthan
It has an enormous deadzone, that makes quick, small, precise movements extremely difficult. You may be used to it, but it is objectively inferior to the 360 controller for shooters, in the same way (though not to the same extent) that both are objectively inferior to a kb/m. That's why they fixed it for the DS4. *Edit* - Calling them barely playable is an exaggeration though. toxicitizen
A massive exaggeration. To the point where it actually hurts the argument you're trying to make... I'll grant you that it's possible the X360 controller's sticks are more precise. I have one that's physically very similar to it but I have no way of knowing if the sticks are exactly like the official 360's since I've never used one personally. And yes, I'm definitely used to the DS3 since it's essentially the only controller I've used in recent years. But to say that anything is "barely playable" on it is just patently false. Baconrath
I've been playing lots of Hawken. Lots of fun even although I'm quite bad at it. I'm still hesitant to spend any money on it though because I'm not sure where Adhesive's line is between Early Access and Forever Unfinished. : / Edited March 6, 2014 by Baconrath
TheMightyEthan
Been playing South Park: The Stick of Truth. It's weird, I'm really enjoying it while playing, but when I'm not playing I don't really have much desire to start playing. It's like the opposite of the Sims. I figure I might throe £5 the way of the developer for making such an awesome game, that way I don't have to feel dirty about spending money for goodies.. staySICK
Diablo III. Again I say: Patch 2.0 is what the game should have been at launch, besides the always on requirement.
TCP
South Park Stick of Truth, I borrowed it off a friend. It's OK, glad I didn't pay 65 dollars for it though. The friend I borrowed it from hyped up how funny it was, and yeah it's about as funny as an episode of South Park is, but then he told me he's never really watched the show, which is strange since almost everything in the game is a reference to the show. TheMightyEthan
I haven't watched the show in probably 7 years or so, but I still am getting most of the references (I think, I guess it's possible I'm missing them by not even realizing they're references, but I'm getting enough that it seems like it could easily be most of them). Has the show become super self-referential?
TCP
No, I don't think so. Most of the references are from the first 10 or so seasons, so I think you'll be good.
toxicitizen
almost everything in the game is a reference to the show Well that's just not true. I mean, unless you go nuts and count absolutely everything that was once on the show as a reference? Like, yeah, the goth kids are just like in the show but that's not a reference. It has a lot of references that a non-watcher would definitely not get (like Stan and Cartman's closets) but most of them are just environmental stuff and there's just as many (if not more) jokes that aren't references. Honestly, the references felt more like neat little nods to fans of the show to me. They were hardly the funniest things about the game. Strangelove
I havent played the game yet, but is the game as referential to pop culture as the show is? The best thing about the show(and some would say the worst as well) is that it can be made in less than a week before it airs, so it's recent to what's happening in the world. But this game was supposed to come out almost a year ago, and it being a videogame, it was probably written at least a year before that. So I really hope the game doesn't reference things from 2-3 years ago. Thats just awkward, and very anti-South park. Thats really why shit like the Simpsons and to a certain extent Family Guy gets mocked nowadays. theyre always late with their references, they beat the horse after it died. And theyre also terribly unfunny, but thats a whole other thing.
TheMightyEthan
I haven't noticed any pop culture references that seem like they're supposed to be current. The reviews I read also mentioned that, commenting that it was good that they didn't try to be super pop-culture-y so its jokes won't get dated. toxicitizen
Nah, there's nothing like that in the plot. I'd imagine they knew games take much longer to make so they wrote the script accordingly. The only somewhat topical reference I can remember off the top of my head was an achievement. I won't spoil what you have to do to get it but it's called "Heisenberg".
TCP
almost everything in the game is a reference to the show Well that's just not true. I mean, unless you go nuts and count absolutely everything that was once on the show as a reference? Like, yeah, the goth kids are just like in the show but that's not a reference. What? Literally every location has some sort of prop, music, or some other kind of reference to an episode.
toxicitizen
That's hardly "almost everything in the game". It's just environmental stuff. Literally just crap lying around/playing in the background. None of it would interfere with someone's enjoyment of the game if they had never watched the show. TheMightyEthan
South Park finally really hooked me. I've been enjoying it the whole time, but now it's got me to that point where whenever I'm not playing it I want to be. At my parents' house after having dinner with them and wondering how soon I can convince my wife to go back home...
staySICK
i made the mistake of playing South Park when my son was awake once, now hes actually brought me the case a few times like its a dvd he wants to watch. Luckily he doesn't sit still enough to really watch it. so I took a break a few days, playing when he's asleep or not at home.
